y33 trans
there is nothing wrong with mine other than it being a 4spd auto
has anyone ever bolted some other 5 or 6 speed auto to a vh41de?
would the tranny from a newer vk45de q work?
i would bet that a good transmission from a newer q would be dirt cheap from parts yards.

Or FreshAlloy.com has good tech info too. There is a Z32 diff swap you can do which will gain you off the line acceleration, but higher RPM on FWY / worse mileage and slower top speed. You can get the diff pumpkin for under 100 at junk yards though.

i was asking about transmissions and not for performance.
i want smoother shifting, not better acceleration.
thought this was something you guys would be into...

to be clear, i'm looking for a 5 or 6 speed auto, not a manual. i already knew about the z32 trans swap, but isnt it's auto a 4 speed as well?

Well, there might be something wrong with your tranny then, I can't feel my car shift. Try a flush and fill with premium synthetic, like Amsoil, Redline, etc.
With a 5 or 6 speed tranny you'd also get better acceleration, but I'm 95% sure it won't bolt right up, you're gonna need an adapter to make it fit, a new TCU computer, plus you'll probably need a new drive shaft if the new tranny isn't the same length as the stock Y33's tranny. It's gonna be a ton of work. Swaps generally are. It's too bad our cars only have a 4 speed, but they're OLD cars, that's the way they were back then.
I think it would be awesome to swap in a VK45 plus tranny and have 340 HP though....., with the money you can do anything I guess....

i dunno
for me its not that it shifts bad really
i feel like with a 6spd auto it would shift more often, but smoother and stay lower in revs unless i really step on it.
z33 trans would come close to bolting up???

so much nissan shit is similar i was just hoping that something would work out.
no biggy i suppose.
if the motor blew i would looove to just drop a vk45de engine and trans in and call it a day.
my experience with the q so fas is that this car is a tank and made well.
car has 115k miles and has zero problems. need to replace a few bulbs, but everything works and the motor is smooth as can be.

It's worth a try. Mine never shifted rough & the motor never ran rough, but changing to premium synthetics made such a noticeable difference, it's well worth it. When I switched the motor oil at my first oil change to Amsoil, it ran even smoother than the already smoothness of the Q engine, same w/ tranny, when I filled it with Redline it shifted even smoother than b4. I'd give it a shot.

how much of that is a mental thing though?
not that i havent had GREAT experiences with redline mt90 in s chasis and z33 trannys, but in an auto? unless it was messed up before i cant imagine it being much better.
i ask, because i guess i am considering it too.

I'm extremely sensitive to noise and vibration. To the point that a small noise that no one else can hear will drive me crazy, so it's pretty significant. More so on the motor than the tranny though. However, Y33 Q's are known for having a "bump" from the 1-2 shift when cold, and that went almost totally away. 2 or 3 minutes of driving is enough that it's warm and doesn't have that bump.

^There is a shop here in Fl that is selling one!
I just did a drop pan fluid change and I noticed a significant difference but I plan on doing a full flush here soon.

The VK and VQ series are interchangeable, but the VH are not. Of course, anything is possible if you really want to make it happen.
