who can import me a car to the US?

I am looking forward to finding some info on how can i import a car to the US. i have searched the forum and couldnt find concreate info so i am making this thread. i might have a found a car to import from japan. now i need info on who can do it what procedures need to be taken in order to do this.  i have heard i could contact some canadian dealers who import cars and get it thru there but not quite sure what is a good way of doin this. i am located in orlando fl. any one can give me some input on this?. thank you!

nope. i am located in orlando fl.  meet some one who got a skyline imported from canada and told me that i could do it until and unless the car is older than 15 year so i thought let me ask u guys for more info.

its not easy to import a car from canada, but dude
there are like 4 or 5 places in FL that do it for 10Gs

oh ok. than i asssume these guys who import them do it at their own risk?. i have been reading some things about it and seems like whatever i heard from people is true but may be its not as u confirm different.

Get a dealer license. I hear its about 1k or so. Then import a car through canada and slap on ur dealer plate. Thats a rough summary of one way. Or so thats what I have heard people say...

In Canada we can import anything that is 15 years or older from countries other than the US.  

I've seen lots of cars slipping across the border.  Registering it can be easy or hard depending on what state you are in.

I know some people register the japanese cars to flordia ... and they are in CA lol

I think most ways are illegal  but still can be done. I think if you get a salvaged/rebuild title you can legally register it.

lol i know theres more than one car out here running plates off another car...say...registering an s13 and putting the plates on a skyline. or registering a US integra and putting the plates on an ITR. ive seen it done PLENTY of times. i just wouldnt recommend it.

im gonna go out on a limb here...alot of the ppl that are actually importing these cars, especially the few that i know that do it, know NOTHING about registering them legally. a friend of mine had an ITR and sold it bc he could never get a hold of the person at the texas dps that he needed to speak with to register this car in any which way.

Get a 25 year old car. Those can be imported fairly easily and legally. From VIP you can get a nice VG40 Toyota Century. You can mistake them for the 1996 model. Older styles maybe a Nissan President 150 or 250, or could rock a Nissan Cedric Special or Prince Gloria 6.

Just about any importer can get you a 25 year old car. To get old 25 year old cars I hear that the japanese company red-megaphone is pretty good. Go with a company that can find you the right car. very seldom would they have one is stock. Try to get something that has not been sitting around. I think there was one auction shown on J-Spec of AU from 402 auto. But it's not an L.

shipping from japan is usually about $1000 for ro/ro, about $500 or so for customs/import fees.

Why is there a restriction on 15 years or older?

There is not a "restriction" of 15 years in the usa. Any car can be imported into the usa, as long as it meets federal epa, dot, state laws. It just may be really expensive and time consuming.

Honestly you can bring them in as parts cars, meaning that the engines are removed and shipped spparetly, then reinstalled. 
Thats how my Soarer got in to the states. 
It's illegal to drive them on the streets but not to own one.
It's not all that hard getting them here, the hard part is actually using them on the streets, but if your just gonna want it for a museum peice like I planned on mine it's ok. 
They don't always come with JDM paper work.
Hell I was even able to get a one day drive permit that i got from the DMV.

Again this is for parts cars!

I personally think it's a little bit silly to get a car that you cannot legally drive on the street.

If you like old there is so many choices.
Mitsubishi Debonair, GTO, FTO. Toyota Crown, Crown Royal, Century VG20 and some early VG40, various Chasers RX30/31/40/41/51 and early first gen Z1 Soarers. Nissan President H150's/H250's, Gloria S40/S44 etc, Cedric P130/230/330. Mazda Cosmos, Luce.

FL is an easy state to register in considering no inspections or emissions. i know guys in cali rocking cars registered in FL just to get around the BS

You can import any car you want pretty much but it's way easy to import something that us makes already like for example the GS an LS or even for sake of argument an Integra or civic or something. I know of a guy in Miami who imports Aristos and Celsors along with skylines and shit like that. His website is Skylineking.com

You can drive imported cars on the street I have a friend with a skyline and a couple of friends with imported civics Integras and one of my good friends has an imported sti.

Of course you can drive an imported vehicle on the street. I just depends on how it's imported and how you get it there. Getting a non US domesticated "car" imported legally to the US that is not 25+ year old is hard. There are other misc grey loopholes. Example, importing car parts is a lot easier. There are other thing like emissions and insurance that may be more difficult depending on how its "imported".

skylineking is not doing anything others have not done before. Just because they can get state registration do not mean that the vehicle is legalized.

but that is illegal for the "state" of CA. As cars have to be register to that state that the owner works, resides and is a permeant resident. Most states have up to 90 days to register a car  from out of state. Some require as few at 15 days.

when i used to live in cali i had a friend who had register here in florida... and hasnt updated it.. and he has also been caught by cops but as it was registered they havent given him any shit. so i assume u can drive outside state cars in other states

yeah, i havent lived in FL since 2001 but i keep my cars tagged there. BUT i was also military and now im a student so technically im not a resident of where im living now.

Just because they didn't get caught does not mean it's legal.
