Pics of my air install on my 93 LS

Well I know I don't post much, and my job has been keeping me pretty busy so not much time to work on my ride, but I have my first major upgrade. The kit is a custom air cylinder kit. I still have some fine tuning, but I thought I would share my hard work. I am open to ideas on how to make install cleaner, but please note that this is my first ever install and I am learning as I go and I must say that I didn't do to bad of a job.

*NOTE* Compressor line is just a substitute, will be replacing upon my return from my trip over seas. I will also be dynamating the trunk to quiet some of the compressor noise so I am not too worried about the paint.

ENJOY

great job man...its not that easy of a project so big props on taking something like this on...

the install could be cleaner...not a fan of having those ugly switches out in the open next to the shift knob...and how about building a subfloor out of MDF to mount everything on...it will help with the vibration of the compressor and will look a lot cleaner than having everything look scattered...

I actually do have a set of wheels in mind, but I am going to keep that under wraps.

I do agree with you about the switches, and they are just a temp for now, I actually want to find some two position switches that look like the stock ones and put them in place of the other ones. The sub floor does sound like a good idea, and I am really going to put it into consideration that way I could hide the wires and air line better. I put everything in the tire well because I want to hide it and also because everything is out of the way, but I am very anal about my stuff especially when I do it myself and if I know there is a way to improve on it I won't be happy until it is done. Thanks for the input.

Nice..

did you peice this kit yourself? If so, what was your estimated cost and where did you purchase those valves?

im learning and doing research about air suspension..and do you have pictures of how the lines are run around the car? like did you need to drill holes to your fender and etc?!

thank you

you don't necessarily need to drill holes on top the strut tower to run the lines...you only need to do that with the basic airrunner setup since they are manual valves and all the lines are ran straight to the switches...

with electrical valves, everything will most likely be located in the trunk so there's no need to run any lines through the car...everything can be ran underneath...hence, no drilling

Actually I purchased the kit off of a member here on VSC, but I have had to order misc. pieces so there are many different companies that would be able to offer what you are looking for. Also I ran all of the lines inside of the car, I found it to be easier that way then to have to run it underneath and clamp it every foot or so. So the only holes I drilled were through the rear wall (since the gas tank is in the trunk, and the rear strut mounts are on the rear speaker deck, and the firewall). Since I am running cylinders the air fitting is on the top of the cylinder so I didn't have to drill through the fenderwell, however when I switch to struts and bags I will just go from there.

You dont really need accumulators on bags, if they are individually piped. (which they should be).

My truck has bags and rides like a caddy with no Accumulators.

I have another question...with your digital controller.

How come you still have switches? I thought usually the digital controllers have the buttons on the controller itself if you want to raise or lower the vehicle?

Or is your digital controller just a display of the PSI readings on the bags/cylinders and tanks? and you use your switches to raise or lower your car? Also, with switches, how come you only have two? dont you need four for each side??

Sorry for the silly questions, I am new to this and researching hahaha..

I want to thank everyone for the positive comments, it is nice to know that other people can appreciate all of my hard work and dedication I have done to get this installed. As far as my next upgrades I plan on getting rims and redoing the tint. I was thinking of doing bronze tint, can anyone photo shop it for me and what are your guy's opinions on that? Thanks!

I dont know which gauge he has but some have the buttons on them and some dont.

As for the 2 switches, you can wire the solenoids so that 1 switch does both front and one to do the rear. Works great if your solenoids arnt sticking other wise one side will lift higher than the other.

Sorry to bust into your thread, Im just use to bags (I have them on my minitruck).

Shouldn't air cylinders be plumbed the same way? Its more or less the same thing I thought.
Air can be compressed in whatever its enclosed in unlike hydraulic oil which has no compression so cylinders should still have some movement in them unless they are at like 200psi.

sorry about that
/theadjack

I still think your LS looks pimp sitting that low and I have nothing against cylinders, I will probably use them on mine when I do it.

Hey I am willing to answer whatever questions that I can so no worries there. As for the digital gauge, it is just that a gauge that tells me how much psi I have in each cylinder and tank. The buttons allow me to set my psi pressures so my guage will let me know if I am higher or lower than my recommended setting as far as I know because I am still learning as well. So the switches are to controll the car. I have the switches set up the first switch runs the front and the rear runs the back, but I am thinking of running 2 more that way I can control each corner individually.

Hey thanks for the comments, yes cylinders are plumbed the same way as bags, but they are stiffer than bags without accumulators, my ride feels like a pair of stiff coilovers. I think th reason is because air can only compress so much, and with a bag the whole housing (bag) is made out of rubber so it can expand and contract when you hit a bump or whatever, and you also have struts to provide dampening for the car. With cylinders you replace the whole strut assembly with the cylinder and since it is solid metal with a diaphram in the center of it, when you are driving the air inside can only compress so much since it has no place to go that is what creates a stiffer ride. Also thanks for providing your input as well because like I said, I am new to this so there is still stuff that I don't know and I am always willing to learn.

Hi Greg,

Thank you for answer my questions. So your display is just a gauge...no wonder I see them on ebay for like cheaper than the digital controller haha.

I hope you dont mind me asking a few more...

re: pressure switches
-so the digital gauge connects to each of the pressure sender right? (via electronically)

re: valves
-since your switches currently only controlling the fronts and back, doesnt that mean that I can assume that you can only use 4 valves instead of 8? What I mean is that if someone wants to only control only the fronts and back (no individual corners), do they use 4 valves VS 8?

I dont know if that question made sense haha...

-secondly, are the two switches connected (via electronically) to the valves or is there some sort of a module that connects to the valves and the switches connects to the module?

re: air line plumbing
-did you plumb the air lines underneath your car all the way to the back of the car and go around and inside your trunk? Or did you drill a hole somewhere? I am trying to picture how it is plumbed.. hehe.

Thank you again for the help Greg!! man, I gotta learn some more...

ps: what kind of air cylinders are you using?

The buttons allow me to set my psi pressures so my guage will let me know if I am higher or lower than my recommended setting as far as I know because I am still learning as well. So the switches are to controll the car. I have the switches set up the first switch runs the front and the rear runs the back, but I am thinking of running 2 more that way I can control each corner individually.
