let me give a little more info. The sensor cracks, allows trans fluid to come through the wiring harness and leaves a few drops of trans fluid at the back of the tranny. I first thought it was an output shift seal gone bad but it turns out its the turbine revolution sensor.
to fix it you have to A. drop the tranny and replace the sensor or
B. remove the motor mounts from the front, let the engine/trans hang down and get to the sensor with a long long extension right by the firewall.
Its a PITA... and the y33 tranny is not a light trans so its a big job

what he said.....there are some ways around dropping the motor but they involve creating an access panel through the floor underneath the center console. Another marvel of Nissan engineering. Gotta love putting a sensor of any kind out of reach of being repaired except for dropping the tranny. Also, might as well do your rear main seal and any other serviceable items between the tranny and the motor, and if i recall correctly their is another sensor located on the top of the tranny that I would change as long as you have it out.
Symptoms of this sensor having issues include the housing weeping fluid and a hesitancy between shifts

I think the ignition coils and this sensor are two absolutely retarded features of this otherwise solid car
My car barely has 100k miles and I had two replace both of these
My other nissans and infinitis have proven to be more reliable.
Its not the cost of parts that bugs me, its just the lack of quality in design that causes stupid little issues like this
