HELP!! headlights

i was trying to clean my headlights on my Y34, because they get cloudy
and i used the wrong grit sand papper and now it looks all F**Ked up
 
anyone have any suggestions on how i can fix it, if i can, other than replacing the headlight

Go over it with finer grit paper. Unless you did something ridiculous like using 60 grit paper, you should be cool.

i meant to get 1000

WHOA!!100?damn,I hope u didn't go all over with it.but just go with a higher grit and keep sanding till its smooth.I just did mine today,I used 2500 first then used 3000.I used Meguirs PlastiX polish and now it looks much better.

I don't even use 100 grit for body work...

Depending how deep you cut, you might be fucked - by the time you sand out the 100 grit scratches you may have too little plastic left. If it's just a few scratches, sand them out using progressively higher grits, like 220, 320, 400, 500, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, compound, then polish.

Ouch, that sounds pretty bad. I would say to try the higher grit papers and then use the meguiars plastix. If that doesnt work i think that you are screwed.

100 grit didn't feel too rough to you? If you can feel the individual grains, it's way too rough. Time for new headlights. :( 

I suppose you can try to sand it with progressively higher grit sandpaper to try to salvage those lenses.

and did it right away but damn i guess if i can fix it imma be buying a new headlight

damn yo that sucks. straight up. lol must have been a stoney moment when u realized u left road rash on your lense :pat:.  honestly though even 1000 grit was barely high enough. i wouldnt dare touch clear plastic without a 2000 then a 3000 then compound buff. well, look on the bright side, you can upgrade to some fresh gloria lights and grill combo or something! lol

well im going to try t fix it it cant get worse and either way if it does imma have to buy a new headlight!
 
it sucks, i got a custom billet grill made, and its going t be done this weekend but now i have a shitty headlight

im sorry but thats pure common sense. 100 is so coarse, its worse than pavement. how can you not realize that.

since you did 100. now your gonna have to slowly move up

do no go in circular motion, and cross hatch between each grit.

-800
-100
-1500
-2000

make sure to buff it all out later with rubbing compound.

and to prevent it next time, get a clear vinly layout to keep the lens free of scratches and debris.

yeah 100 will fuck your shit up bad... really hope for your sake you only tried it on one of the headlights..

Take it to a body shop and see if they have any strong compound they could use with power polisher after sanding with 1500. Some of the home made products shops get are much better than off the shelf compounds.

yeah my co workers husband has a shop and hes going to try his best to fix it, but worst comes to worst im going to have  to buy a new headlight

you know what works just as good, a rouche ( i dont know how to spell it lol) its what they use to clean up diamonds... my boss let me use some of that and it came out looking brand new...

yeah my old man also recommended using something like a Jewellers Rouge (i think that is the spelling) which is a super fine grit polish used for diamonds and such. i imagine you would need to be careful still being that it can polish diamonds it must be quite rough in itself, but being so fine i dont think it would scratch visibly. 
 
related to this topic, i have a GS300 im collecting this week. it has the HID headlights and theyre looking a bit yellowy. i'm assuming they're probably yellowy inside as well as out due to the heat of the HIDs, so are they an easy thing to remove, dismantle, polish and replace? are they glass or plastic on 2nd gen GS?

i use meguiars plastix
its plastic polish designed for headlights.
do mine once a week and they look sweet

hm once a week is a bit much for me, i might look into some of these products that are advertised as restoring and protecting headlights..

How did this ever work out? I also see that you said you had a custom grill done. Do you have any pictures? I want to have a grill done for my M.
