2gen GS starting problems(clickclickclick ect)

before my car will start it takes about ten times of turning the key.. all i get is clicking  then eventually it starts right up. and even sometimes it starts first try really wiered.. battery terminals are 100 percent perfect and tite ..  lemme know what this ??

I had a car that used to do this. It was the starter solenoid.
Lexus/Toyota calls it a "starter switch" but it's really a solenoid
mounted to the starter.

If it's a GS300 you can change the starter somewhat easily
(I did it in the garage on my brother's GS300 with hand tools,
two scraped knuckes, and lots of swearing) but if it's a V8
you have to remove the intake manifold to access the starter.

a PITA!!!!

changing the starter on the gs4 is not fun...dealership chargers i think almost a grand including parts...
 
you can do it if you're mechanically inclined...may take you all day but will save money in the end...i suggest you have a mechanic friend or take it to a small shop and get it done...you really can't fuck it up...just takes time and a little know-how...

I have if its  a v8 its a pain in the ARSE !

if you got a gs3, if all you get is a click. its the contacts inside the start, when you turn the key it activates the solenoid.. but the power wont jump to the starter motor to spin shit. in some cases.. you can just tap the starter with a hammer, and it would work fine. 

if gs4, i laugh. i wouldent touch one.

sounds like your battery is dying to me.

if you hear clicking, that's the starter trying to engage, but it's not getting enough juice. It's the starter if you don't hear anything at all.

The battery tends to use up its electrolyte juices after a number of years. one of those cells might not be performing to the best of its ability, but a few shocks to the the system get it up and running (trying to start the car).

Get your battery tested at any chain autoparts store. I'm almost positive it's the battery. VERY "battery" type of symptom.

No, it's a starter problem. It happens on the 400's, and can either just altogether quit without giving you warning of the starter failing, or it can click click click forever before it completely dies. 
 
Now if he has a 300, it may be the same, but I don't here of starter problems as much on the 300.

ahh ok, Interesting.

Yeah, it's weird though, because the starters will fail randomly. Some click forever, some click a few times, some just fail outright. some last 100k, some last 50k weird stuff. Find a good independent mechanic if you don't want to deal with taking off your top intake manifold. Dealer will charge you a pretty penny to do it also.

I agree with Avantgarde. I think its the battery. My GS4 did the same thing after my girl left the lights on on the car one night and a couple of car shows of leaving all the doors open. It worked by jumping a couple of times then finally quit starting, just clicking. I bought a new battery and boom everything fixed. So you might want to start there instead of going straight to the starter.

Sound like starter to me. Thats wat happen to my 98 gs400 got it fix for 400bucks at local shop don't bring it to dealer.

sounds like a dead alternator to me... check the alternator with an alternator tester which you can borrow at a local pep boys or kragen. good luck.

ill agree with the battery thing. might want to try and jumpstart it. i left the door cracked one night in my garage (interior lights stayed lit) and when i came out it was dead...i jumped it and havent had any probs since.

i see ur from Sac PM me if u want me to fix that starter, i charge $120 for parts and labor..
