making gold emblems silver??

I thought I read somewhere about people removing the gold plating and them being silver/chrome underneath? is this true? If so what is the process? If not maybe I will just have to have the emblems chromed or painted etc... Thanks for any help.

it will expose nickle if you can buff off the gold plating.

you can then buff the nickle to have a brighter finish. It will not be as vibrant as chrome...and will wear off because nickle is so soft.

I guess you could spray a clear on it...but why go thru the trouble when u can jus buy regular chrome emblems:biggthumpup:

Just buy new emblems. I just replaced my nasty gold antennae base and nut. I removed letters on the trunk bar. Then sanded and painted them.

Just use paint stripper, some thing like Klean Strip.

Paint stripper could damage the chrome plated plastic emblems. Brasso could take of the gold plating.

Thanks, so far I have just buffed the gold out. I kinda like just the nickel finish instead of chrome...
