i had one about 5 years ago.  expect it to be your only fish.  i had a small one and it tore the shit out of all my tang cichlids fins, so i had to give it away.

Its between 15 and 30 bucks. Not that big of a deal Brandon! I'll get wheels, I've got what I want picked out for now, actually I don't but I've narrowed it down to like 6 wheels lol.

That puffer is a freshwater puffer, grows about an inch a month the first year if being fed properly and in a healthy tank. after that, growth slows, but full size is like 18 inches or something. Needs a 120 gallon tank for a healthy full size environment. 

I didn't say WHEN I was getting it either. I've got a lead on a 100 gallon tank if my buddy is still selling it. That guy was looking to get a 240 gallon! (100 gallon is only like 200 bucks, so it's not some HUGE investment, like some people think)

Yeah TnG, I've been reading up on it. COOL fish, very aggressive, I've been looking to get a 'monster fish' for a while now. I think this would be a cheaper alternative to what I also want to get, a Jardini Arowana.

jardini arent too bad either if they are under 2".  they arent that nice looking though.  but that is an alternative to an asian red/green/gold etc.  

right now im working on a 34g reef. too time consuming though.

i still miss my 100g predatory tank.  all big ass crazy fish. silver arrow, eels, nocturnal cats, pikes, frsh barracudas etc....

^ Given our good ole USA choices of a lechardini(sp) regular silver/green/black aro's, and jardini's, I'll take the Jar. Closest relative to the Asian Aro. There's movements trying to get the Asian legal here in the USA, due to chipping and breeding over in China and Japan.

shoot, as soon as an asian aro is available for purchase legally im getting a couple.  about ten years ago i had a local store owner said he could get me an asian green 3" for $800 but i was too young to drop that kind of $ on a fish.

there was also a teppan and sushi place here that had 4 asian aro's.  they arent there anymore, and i dont know why.  now they have 4 huge silver's.  and the pho place next door has a 10" jardini

A friend of a friend almost got deported for bringing in Asian Aro's from the Phillipines, they used to keep them in their shop, feds came in and acted like they were looking for parts, then turned around and busted them or something. 
 
I was actually considering moving to Canada, as only the US is gay and won't let them here. 
 
800 even for a green is cheap. Juvie's just outta frye stage were going anywhere from 3-10k for a 5" baby that might not even survive the acclimation...people will pay a pretty penny for them. 
 
I'll stick with my Jar untili those Asian's become legal again, if they ever do.

I always wanted a Koi fish and a finding NEMO fish but ones a salt water and the other is freash water!

Koi are pond fish, they are messy, and dig in the gravel in tanks.
 
A clown fish, if you want to get into a salt water tank oscar, you can keep it in as little as a 20, or 30 gallon tank.

I dunno what kind of fish it is but it follows you around and if you get close to the glass or barely touch hit, he'll hit the glass SUPER hard!

im setting up my tank in a few weeks for a silver arowana, 1 flowerhorn, and a couple of blood parrots, and maybe a red tailed catfish.

i had a silver aro a few years back, got him at aorund 3" and grew to around 2.5 ft and finally broke its back and died.

i had a shit load of tanganyikans, they are expensive as fuck too.

im not out of the fish game at all.  this was just my first reef.  glad i went only 34 gallons though.  it seems like so much maintanence.  and i got a full built in system which is easier.

imma do an in wall unit with salt fish only, and maybe a freshwater plant tank with some tetras and discus.  i heard the plant tanks are the hardest.

thanks for the props oscar, but it is far from done. im 2k involved with this little ass tank already, so ive held off in the past 2 months.  but i do stare at it a everyday.  which is why i think its worth the money.  i just zone out and i dont think of all the other crazy stuff goin on.  i was gonna go straight to a 140 gallon but im glad i didnt cuz it would be empty.

i'd go with the 12 1" small ones.  put them in a big tank and they end up killing eachother off later.  you'll end up with 4-5 nice aggressive ones in about a year and a half.

i wanted a piranha tank at home in my office, but my girlfriend said their too scary.  and she freaks out about bugs, and even fish.  she only lets me buy pretty ones, so i was conteplating getting the wimple piranhas

damn didnt know everyone was into the fish game, its probably more money than the car game. 

i started out with betta fish, went over 4 hundred into that...which to me is alot considering those fish only cost 1.50 for avg fish.

then got into bigger stuff, 280 gallon saltwater fish only talk, with starfish, lionfish, puffer, damsels and snowflake eel, all those died when the heater broke frying all my fish.

then moved onto a 150 gal freshwater setup with 2 blood parrots, flowerhorn, oscar, and a 2 ft long silver aro and a few goldfish.

then a small 5 gal nanoreef which isnt even done.

now that im moving im going to get a 50-100 gal freshwater setup with 1 channel cat, RTC cat, bloodparrot, silver aro, and pants with driftwood, along with a c02 system.

Oddly enough it's less maintenance with a larger tank than a smaller one, plus the water specs aren't as sensitive in a larger tank. I have never tried a saltwater setup due to the fact that when I was about to I ran into a major snag...... my second divorce hahahahahahahaha yeah but Like I said I might go Brackish setup with Monos or maybe even go 300 gallon strictly Aro setup!!!! :dance:

Whoever told you planted tanks are hard is trippin. 


You take your tank, and you fill it with water. You put in the flourite substrate. You let it clear up from being cloudy. Plant the tank. Depending on your plants, you add how much light you need. After it cycles, you add your shrimp/snails if you don't mind them, then you add your fish about a week later. Let your plants grow, and you are done with your tank. Trim the plants when you want, rip out the plants and add new ones or re-scape the tank. 

My tank, which is only a 29 right now, sits there, every once in a while i dose it with some flora pride water ferts, feed my fish, turn on my lights. I don't even change the water. Plants are the missing link to the eco-system you are trying to recreate. I don't have algae problems because plants are sucking up all the nutrients that algae would eat up and flourish on. I don't have algae problems because when they DO start showing up my shrimp and snails are on it. 

I've got a school of 30 Rasbora Espei's (WAY better than tetras, which are so inbred for their color they die off with a simple water change) and 1 betta which I just can't get rid of lol. 

I've got countless shrimp, Minami and Cherries, which I'm sure have cross bred and given me some browns in there, and countless snails which is why I'm getting the Fahaka Puffer to eat. Maybe just some dwarf puffers for now, until I secure a 130gal tank for the Fahaka to live out his days in. 

All in all, planted tanks have been the simplest tanks to keep. Easier than salt water, easier than bare tanks, easier than anything you could think of. I DON'T DO WATER CHANGES! Just top off!

Oh, and if you want the JP of all tanks to match with your JP car, then invest in an Amano tank, known as ADA or Aquatic Design Amano.

i thought snails were bad for plant tanks, and dont you need a co2 diffuser?  ive heard of poeple using alka seltzer also... but i havent looked too much into it yet.  i just heard its the opposite of a reef.  

and sik, ive heard people are doing a lot of experimenting with brackish water. mixing salt fish and fresh fish and being ok, instead of just monos and archers and stuff.  i have buddies that maintain tanks for a living and parents who own stores, and they say people are doing crazy stuff now.

Yeah for bigger tanks with les fish load you do need co2, which actually isn't that expensive to set up. 

But 'el natural' tanks, don't even use any ferts or anything. Lights, water, balanced fish load, an viola, tank is a complete eco system which cycles itself. Feed the fish food, they eat it, poop, which turns to fertilizer for the fish, fish breathe the o2 that's given off by the plants, and plants suck up the nitrates and co2 from the fish. 

Even then, co2 systems are just regulated, you only have to set it, then you can forget it. Still easier than salt! lol.

I hear ya! I've been reading up on the acclimation of certain salt water fish to brackish water conditions with higher salt content than normal and of course the acclimation of brackish water fish to the higher level of salts in the same tank. The first "successful" attempts were with percula clown fish and then they started trying to acclimate everything from lion fish to triggers and damsels to tangs. I haven't kept up with the newer ones since i have not been in the aquarium scene for a minute but I swear I will share when I come back hahahahahaha :biggthumpup:

Wouldn't it be easier to keep them marine instead of trying to convert to brackish? Just like how brackish are easier to convert to salt?

that's what i always figured but some people just want to be able to say "look what i did to this poor animal" hahahahahahahahaha i don't like the idea especially since with less salt their colors are less vibrant

i had one and it ate freaking 6 crabs in the tank .. and mostly all the fish ... ;\ 
and the lady in the fish store said they dont eat crabs .. 


damn kids with jobs and no skills .. it eventually died after the angel fish somehow got sick and killed everything in the tank

Yep! now All I have to do is find a tank big enough for now...should have never sold my 65! could have kept him in there for about a year.

looks pretty awesome...i just got rid of my piranha i had. i had 4 and they were pretty awesome. they were about half palm size.
