Homemade and various other Fusa's

hello guys i'm new on here. i don't have a vip car but i'm doin a lil bit of that style on my old 1970 toyota corona mkll and lil bit of bosozuku look. and i'm lookin for  junction produce fusa aka kiku knot. and wondering where i can get one or if any one have the huge one (18 inchs) pic of it?:smiley:

Whats up, i was at Jo-ann Fabrics and they have "tassels" rope things that look like the Kitsuna knot. They come in gold,black,white, and a lot of other colors was well.  Just a thought if your looking to spend considerably a lot less than a Junction Produce one. Of course if you wanna be authentic then go for the JP ones, i just copped one from Joann fabrics for $12 to put in my Si hatch just for decoration.

it's a cultural thing that it represents, its not a replica of a brand name product.
Junction Produce didn't invent the thing.
 
however if you're doing it to compete in a car show, then having brand name stuff might earn you extra points.

I don't believe that my statment incinuated anything about LAMENESS or that there is anything wrong w/ doing your own thing. Wheather ppl like it or not, certain things cost money (sometimes overpriced), and I don't care if ppl think I wasted MY money on items that I enjoy. So when you look at my knot and say, "I can't believe that guy spent $$$ on that silly thing when he could have made it?" think about it. Then get back to me.

EDIT> I agree spending money on things you enjoy is part of having fun in lfe. I have purchased overpriced designer items for my wife and myself, and I bought them for the status. I don't mind admitting it. 
 
I wasn't going to buy a "Fusa", because it didn't seem to fit in especially since I'm not of Asian decent, and my car is British. 
However after doing some research on the meaning of them, and how it links to the Buddhist mystic knot and also the feng shui purpose behind it I changed my mind.
 
I didn't buy a designer one from JP. However I did still get a genuine one for less than $18 shipped and it has jade carved into it.  I love the way it looks.

In this case, I'd say no. The fusa pre-dates JP significantly, it's not like JP makes the only fusas.

They just happen to make ridiculously priced ones that people flock to buy because they're part of a hot new trend, and they're JDM, and they come with the aura of prestige attached to JP. Really though, it's a rope with a knot in it, just like any other fusa.

I'll be blunt about my opinion: I think it's a waste of money to buy a Junction Produce fusa. I don't mean to offend anyone who has done it, they have their reasons I'm sure. But that's my take on it.

Danjiri festival is odd, and hilarious.

Opposed to the reasonable priced ones that ppl don't flock to buy because they arn't apart of a hot new trend, and not JDM, and don't come w/ the prestige attached to JP. Seems/sounds pretty black and/or white to me. Thanks for your blunt opinion. :shrug:

Why would a non Japanese even rocks a fusa or kinsuna if it's not becuz of JP's branding?

...because although its roots are in Japan its fashion is now associated with VIP auto styling, not just being Japanese.
 
However i do understand your point.  Just yesterday I purchased something similar to a Fusa after learning of its roots in Buddhist beliefs, and its Feng Shui orgin. 
 
That was my buying motive, and that transcends nationality.
I don't know if i'll actually hang it in the car, i might just put it up in the house.

That is some dangerous stuff. I know they do a similar event during the Gion Festival in Kyoto city ([url]http://youtube.com/watch?v=CI4C-DRxH9o[/url])  Although the shrine they pull is like 4 times bigger and its been slowed down for tourists.  The problem with these shrines is that they don't have front wheels that turn, so they topple over if they take a turn too quickly.

Back on topic, I would like to see some the DIY knots that people are coming up with.  Please keep us posted!

Well, u can tell the difference most of the time between a homemade and JP's... Again it's the attention th details that makes the difference in VIP styling.

I can't tie knots for shit! How did you do that? Got a how to? I know your good at that stuff.

Exactly... The difference is in the quality of the tassles, and of course the rope. Before i got the JP one, i had another one that i got from Robert (i.e. {-.-}) which was not branded, but it was from a famous shrine. That actually felt better than the JP one! Tassles were silky and soft, and it was made with some high quality rope.
 
The tassles on these $2 ropes are pretty nasty

The fusa that came from the shrine was like that. I prefer that shape personally... Even though the JP one has all 6 'nodes' the same size

So it seems JP did modify it somewhat and sell then. Interesting!

i think the wider sides help offset the longer string and hanging tassles

heres a couple (crappy) pics of the one i got, i wrote about it a few posts back.
 
its got a ingot made of jade, and a mystic knot made of jade, along with the traditional knots made from silk. it was crammed into a small box, so the tassels look kinda wrinkly from being folded. i just opened it a few hours ago, hopefully the silk will relax soon, once it's allowed to hang.

like i said before thats why i bought it. I can identify more with the Buddhist Mystic knot, than I can with the Japanese culture behind the Fusa.

Ok, this is going to sound selfish but here's the deal. With this forum now starting to attract more and more non-vip styled cars I shudder to think of SUVs and hatchbacks etc sporting $2 home made Fusa's because the are the latest hot trend. Even more shudder-inducing would be the thought that i was the one who showed them how to do it.
 
I feel that there are 2 reasons you would hang one of these knots from your mirror: 1. you want to add a finishing touch to a vip (or vip styled) car, or 2. you are completely immersed in Japanese culture/religion.
 
for (1) you would have no problems paying $50 for a real one
for (2) you would have no problems finding the links like i did.
 
So for that reason i am not going to post the links for all to see.

I was on a business trip around Asia and picked up some 100% authentic local knots from each region I visited.  Hong Kong, Beijing, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Taiwan (in no particular order)

There are a couple sellers on Ebay that sell the rope/tassels for Japanese swords.  I know they sell them in every color of the rainbow.

This is from a couple different sites about the JP Fusa..

"FUSA" is the one of most JAPANESE style accessory they make.
Its origin comes from traditional festival "DANJIRI " which has been held at south part of Osaka Japan from ancient days.

The Fusa represents the Danjiri Festival which happens in Southern Part of Osaka, Japan which is where Junction Produce started and is home to. JP started to "sport" the Fusa as a sense of pride for where they are from and also it is like a good luck charm or prayer in regards to you. As soon as JP started sporting the Fusa, it caught on very quickly and became a symbol for VIP cars everywhere even if they were not from Osaka.

The Kintsuna and Gitsuna also comes from the Danjiri festival. On the big "wooden car" they use in the Danjiri festival, they also hang a "gold and silver rope" as well. Kintsuna's and Gitsuna's come in gold and silver repectively ... since the english translation of Kintsuna is "gold rope"and Gitsuna is "silver rope"

both the Fusa and Kintsuna is symbolic for the hometown of Junction Produce.

I Know About the Mystic Knot and How It Symbolizes the Cycle of Life, There is No End or Start Point In Life. This is the Repsentation of Never Ending Cycle In Buddhism. 
Since I Dont Know Alot about the Knots. I will have to Search and Study More Info.

Just get one at temple and have it blessed by the monks while you are at it....I actually have a JP one in my girls car but thats because I got it for $24 bucks shipped.   I like it, but at the same time I won't pay a ton of cash (subjective # as well) for one when it is a mass produced accessory that a company is profiting on rather than an actual Buddhist religious symbol blessed by the Monks.  <--No JP product will ever be as "Genuine" as that
