because he also has a VS kit himself which he never put on the car. After a test fitting, the fitment was horrible. May be it might fits on a Q45 better, but i was there when he test fitted his VS kit on his UCF20. Plus It's a knock off kit. IMO "DO IT ONCE . . DO IT RIGHT"

Huh, my VS kit didnt come with those slits below the style line, but they would have been shaved with most everything else on the bumper anywho. Are there two different VS kits out there?

Well, thats exactly what the bumper looked like when I first got it a month or so ago, just without the slits. I know they had a lip kit too, but I didnt know there was a smooth bumper version and one with the slits.

hey pancakes, what would you do if there's a Q45 same color as yours' rolling up next to your car with the same exact "looking" kit and the side of the car is rocking "AMERI-GAIN" decals on it. You paid how much for your precious kit???and waited how long???and work how hard just to get that kit???, next thing you know, $800 full kit painted and installed no problem.

Not that I really care wheather ppl get knock-offs or originals. I def don't approve of representing a knock-off as an original. On top of that to keep true to my friends that went the extra mile, i'd point out all the flaws in your kit..... On the real though, I would say it's like buying a diamond ring, just looking at them they all pretty much look the same, but the money/time/effort you put in says something about the you, the person that bought it.

once we start saying whos is better the style will loose its style. Cars are Cars and there will allways be something better than the next guys..with or without a kit. WE need to focus on keeping things outside the box and keeping the style alive.

If that VS kit was not labled as a knockk off than no one would worry or care. I am in no way saying lets support knockoffs but truth of the matter is that lots of folks in Japan use knock offs and customize them..TRUTH!!!!

I have been in situations where I have had art work stollen and used without permission here and on ebay and I was upset..makes me really think about not using a knock offs to support my feelings and other hard working manufactures.

There was that green Q up in chicago that lots of people over looked the fact that he/she was using a knock off kit because the car was executed so well. THis silver Q also has great execussion and what stands in its way is the fact that it has a VS kit..

IF you folks are going to drull over one car with the same kit (knockoff) keep it consistant with other knock off kits..

I see 3 and only 3 valid points to purchaseing a knock off kit.

1) you are going to change the kit to the point were its not even recongnizable

2) you really like the VIP style and just can not afford the real deal and are satisfied with it and do not push as a real kit

3) You ride so low that eff'n up $3000 kit just does not make sense..

Once again I am not supporting it BUT I can see where people are coming from. We have to be able to look through many doors before judging a person or a car.

Me I drive low really low (I am on coilovers and do not have the luxury of raising up my car at the swithc of a button) and one reason I have not bought an expensive kit is because 1 in my older age thinks its rediculous to to spend more money on a kit than the car is worth just to show how much money I may or may not have just to go and crack it on one bad road condition judgement...then having to go and fix it or replace one or more parts and I don't show my car..I build it for me not others...

Some people may disagree and say you gots to pay to play and yes that is TRUE but thats allways the case..IF so more cars would be on a higher level that they are now.

THe only car I see that you gots to pay to play theory is WidebodyQ..he is doing what folks in Japan are doing..thinking outside the box and doing it right..if anyone has payed to play its him...all the other VIP cars on the forum are really nice but lack that IT factor.

I am not trying to bash on ANYONE lots of the SOCAL boys gots there shit going on and are way nicer than mine for shure...

I Think of Benjis car with his wald kit...when he had his aggressive WOrks....MAN that car was so nice and he did not spend a fortune on a whole bumper replacement kit..but his execution was very very nice..another car that is in my top ten...

So before passing judgment on what brand someone is using just look at the overall execution of the car and let the car speek for itself..

I do agree about pancakes he would not care in if someone pulled next to him with a VS kit...because in his eyes I truly believe becuase he has an aimgain kit that he would put that as a higher level than the VS Q..

NOw if someone rolled up next to him with a custome AIMGAIN moddeded kit with some wide body rear and front fenders with 19x11-20 fronts and 19x12-20 rears with some crazy ass body work than yeah he might get a little overwelmed BUT pancakes is pancakes and he does shit for himself and not others anyways...its hard to make someone like that jealous period.

And see i fit into two of those categories... Im redoing the entire front bumper of the VS kit and if my test fits prove true drive height will leave it around 7/8" off the ground in the front and on the sides.... For those reasons, spending and going the extra mile for a real kit made no sense in my economical eyes.

I will also be putting the car up for sale as soon as I am finished with it and have a line up of buyers waiting already. We will see who can come up with a satisfactory amount for what I have put into the car, but for not getting to enjoy a real kit for a couple years i see no need to blow the extra money when I can invest it in my property or some of my mutual funds.

Oscar your car is beautiful, the guy above with the VS kit, is beautiful too. Cars are a mode of transportation, if your life revolves around your car.... Well you should really look into some help for that.

Myself, I'm getting the VS sides and rear, but keeping my front Stillen lip cause I like it. And by doing so, I'll continue to have something unique and different. Not sure how I could really change the sides or rear, but once I get them, we'll see. But that does flow with the Japanese way of mixing different parts to come w/ your own version. I think the VS sides are small enough that they'll be a perfect fit w/ Stillen front.

as long as this keeps coming up i'm gonna keep saying it: BUYING KNOCKOFFS IS SUPPORTING THIEVES. it doesn't matter how you justify it, it is what it is.

1) you are going to change the kit to the point were its not even recongnizable
you can mod the real kit too.
2) you really like the VIP style and just can not afford the real deal and are satisfied with it and do not push as a real kit
you can be vip without a kit.
3) You ride so low that eff'n up $3000 kit just does not make sense.
vip is based on low stance, charge it to the game. thats like saying "i play basketball in my shoes, so i buy fake j's". THATS WHAT THE S**T IS MADE FOR!
now once somebody has gone through with it i don't have anything to say. we just have different values and thats how it is. i can still appreciate the car (the car pictured loks great to me). but then you got people that will s**t on ORIGINAL mid grade wheels (tsw holsten comes to mind) yet justify a cheap knock off kit.

its a slippery slope and indifferance is only going to hurt.

seems like vsc has changed a lot in the short time i've been here. it was "pay to play and f**k everything else". i remember how ppl would talk about not letting vip go to s**t. well... its happening. i would rather go through 1000 10 page arguments about how my maxima is lame than see this stuff become accepted. what kind of message is being sent? the newbs that are signing up right now are reading this stuff and seeing og's say its all good to rock knockoffs as long as you are customizing it, broke, and/or riding low (see 1, 2, and 3 above).

i'm glad to see that the mods stepped in and made the position known. i'm suprised this is the first time it has happened given the public policy.

I wish I were keeping my car and had a desire to drop more on a nicer kit, but when push comes to shove, money talks for me. I do not like supporting knockoffs, but the fact "an original" FIBERGLASS kit costs $2000 MINIMUM for the bottom of the barrel one..... Thats rediculous.

Make a quality kit out of ABS and I WILL support that all day every day. When the originals are the same 'cheap' material of the copy....... I have a hard time seeing the argument there.

the only argument that really matters to me is this:

the design is intellectual property of the creator. they put in the time, effort, and money to create it. the replica company came behind them, molded it, and w****d it out.

they are able to sell it so cheap for several reasons:
1) they have so little into it
2) they make them in america so shipping/duties aren't as exspensive (wouldn't be a bad thing if it wasnt a knock off)
3) they are not taking pride in the vip lifestyle (pay to play) and are selling products at average prices

but like i said, once somebody has made the purchase i wish them the best of luck. i can't expect everybody to feel how i feel, but i can let everybody know how i feel and why.

its a slippery slope and indifferance is only going to hurt.

seems like vsc has changed a lot in the short time i've been here. it was "pay to play and f**k everything else". i remember how ppl would talk about not letting vip go to s**t. well... its happening. i would rather go through 1000 10 page arguments about how my maxima is lame than see this stuff become accepted. what kind of message is being sent? the newbs that are signing up right now are reading this stuff and seeing og's say its all good to rock knockoffs as long as you are customizing it, broke, and/or riding low (see 1, 2, and 3 above).

i'm glad to see that the mods stepped in and made the position known. i'm suprised this is the first time it has happened given the public policy.

Copyrights, even within the US expire. Thats business right there man, I hate to admit it, but you can only have rights to something for so long. If you want to stay ahead of the game you gotta keep changing it up. Yes they put the effort in and they got the benefit. It IS a shame its not the other way around, but if it were 3rd world countries would be 4th world countries.

I said along time ago VSC was changing for the worst. I got bashed on left and right about platforms and types of cars that were beeing excepted. Lots of OG that felt very srtrong have left..some still lurk now and then but most do not post..and this is not a recent event.

Whats funny to me is Mods using stop the copy BUT allow knock offs to be sold on VSC..what message does this send???? NOT VERY CONSISTANT message if you ask me.

Truth is the majority into VIP can not afford to do what the folks in Japan do. Most folks on here are young in school living at home and or broke just talking...We have folks in here that have mad loop and folks that don't .....

I am not upset if blackonblack disagrees with me..because you know what this is just cars and VSC HAS changed. People copy things all day PLEASE DO NOT TAKE OFFESNE BLACK ON BLACK..but your shoe fetish shirt isnt that just an image off a website that you photochoped added some filiters to????

I am guilty as well I find cars I like and draw them in Illustrator and use wheels I like and slap them on...So in a sense we are contributing to the same thing you are against..I am NOT calling you out just trying to shed some different perspective on this matter.

Blackonblack...we HAVE had our differences in the past and I have made every effort to try to be a + member and poster. I have had issues with other members as well... Truth is we all talk shit and we all take offense at sometime or another...

The reason I say this is because I have been called an ellitist and or a purist and I do agree but most of the others that were like me are long gone so times change people change.

I use to feel if you cant afford it then this style is not for you..DID that stop the college kids from joining NO did that stop broke ass fools to stop trying...NO...so what I say really does not effect that many folks out there.

I am not setting any bad examples for newbies...those folks will do what they want regardless of what you or I may say.

I have a few friends in in Japan who I have been introduced to ..and they do tell me that Yes there is no shame in any brand they use as long as the car is executed proper. We are the ones the americans that are to proud to use a knock off...I have to use altavista alot to understand what they are saying but truth is that many kits we drull over trying to guess what the hell they are are knockk offs..BUT lots are not.....

Disclamer to newbies

I in no way am I saying go buy a knock off kit. I am not saying that it is right.
Do what you want with your money....

I only stated reasone I could see buying a knock kit and I still think the same way...

My heart is set on the aimgain smartline that one day I will have....I will not chop it up to be different and will hopefully drive carefull enough not to f it up...

So please do not take what I say as any means of guidlines on what is and is not VIP....

You guys think JDM kits for vip cars are expensive? (notice I didnt call them vip kits because a kit alone doesnt make your car vip styled)

They are a bargin compared to what Euro kits go for on Euro Luxury cars.

Lets take Benz for example. Kits from Kleeman, Brabus, Lorinser, Carlsson range from $9k- $14k.
Junction Produce, Auto Couture, Wald are really a bargin for those cars at $3k-$6k.

lol

Save up and get the real thing. Remember that it could be worse, you could own a Euro luxury car.

Yes it could, but those kits are ABS, MUCH more durable and maintinence free as well as WAY more expensive to produce. Asian culture invented the copy, anyone who tries to deny that is just plain ignorant.

I cant say i dont support copies because thatd be blesphemous, and I am not that type of guy. Would I rather have a real kit? YES! Would I rather spend 3 times as much for the EXACT same kit from the same mold from the same material, when I am going to hack it to hell? NO.

If there was a difference between the kits quality, it would be a different story. But theres not. They are equals in my book. Disagree with me all you want. Until The JDM culture can figure out how to match the Europeans quality with their parts, I will hold this arguement.

Very true, I am basing my opinion of everything based on the fact that paying the cost for the exact same thing is rediculous. Make a better quality product out of better quality materials and it would have been purchased by me. Why is it that the asian market copies all the european markets in every facet of busniess? Clothing, jewlery, etc. Yet I have seen fake LV purses sold on here and no one complaining about it. Get your heads and opinions straight before pointing fingers at peoplewatning replica kits. Really.

Being brand *****s and accepting nothing less is is exactly why so many americans are in the debt they are. I have stated before this is the first time I have bought soemthing that hasnt been authentic, clothing, car, anything wise. But for the fast that its the same material same mold same kit. Give me a reason not to other than "name brands sake" If this 'bippu' culture is about sitting on a high horse well thats a little twisted. I know for a fact that parts on the japanese market do not cost nearly what we pay for them. Sell me an aimgain kit for what i could get it living in japan and I would buy it.

^^^ Something I allways have said VIP styling in the US is more expensive than in JAPAN....

WidebodyQ never had beef with you and hope not to ever as I admire your work that you have put into your car..

BUT lets put things into perspective. HOW many of us have bought what we drive new????
Lots of members are driving 10+ year old cars around on this forum that are worth about $1500-$10000 and it would be stupid to buy a kit that cost $9k- $14k like you said. I think just foolish..Why not invest your money in real estate stocks bonds or a business then fix up a car when money is not a worry and make it a real show car????

Comparing benze and euros to japanese cars is like apples to oranges. There is no comparrison. YEs LEXUS are nice real nice Infiniti the same BUt they are not in the exact same league as German cars thus comparing them to them is really not fair.

If someone buys a brand new 7 series BMW or a brand new Benz then YEah spending 9k-14k on a $100,000 car is nothing look at the ratio value in cost towards the kit and price tag..

But spending 3k-6k on a $1500-$7000 car shhhh I dunno man...you cant justify you just have love and afford the look of what you are going after and close your eyes as you spend that money.hahahaha

Lets just get things back on topic for the OG poster. We all have different opinions and I will be the FIRST to admit that I do not own VIP I think I use to think that and thought that I new more or was better than the next guy because my car was sitting lower or had wider wheels or bigger dish..but trooth is that I have been surpased by many other members now and realize that we are all into cars..SOme more than others and some even more than life..tisk tisk but we all share the love for a well executed car....

Lets just agree to disagree and RESPECT each others opinions and car modding regardless of what name it is or not..

wow all this over a body kit.
buy what you want, just make it look clutch. make it fit and look like it was OEM and im sure no one will ever say anything.

do people on here not realize way we are all here. come on lighten up, im sure some of the cars in the vip mags, have knockoff parts. because they pulled it off so well, who gives a damn. if someone can make a knock off fit like a glove leave them be, its not hurting anyone.

there will always be knock offs, of EVERYTHING.

The VS kit IS different: it's been changed to the point where it fits a US bumper, so therefore, they did actually have to alter the design, thus, making it their own.

One of my favorite quotes; "Good artists borrow, GREAT artists steal." You know who said that? One of the all time greats: PABLO PICASSO.

BTW, I have filed no less than 5 trademarks for different companies and 1 patent on a golf shoe, so I know a little bit about patent and trademarks with the USPTO. Lawyers charge a grip to file these things, but a lawyer friend of mine directed me on my 1st one and it's not that hard, but does take some time to do.

I once read an article about how knockoffs actually increases the sales of originals. Like, if something is so high-end and very desirable, there will inevitably be knockoffs of it. But with knockoffs, there will be the people who will purchase the original stuff so that they can boast that they have the real deal amongst all the fakes. This is to say that they too have to desire that item.

Personally though, I used to purchase knockoff bodykits from VIS Racing when I was modding cars back in high school, but that was because I couldn't afford anything else. But now, I will not buy any kind of knockoffs for respect to the original designer. If you have the capability to produce something of the same quality as someone else, then you also have the capability to design and produce your own kits. Just think about it, if these companies will take the time to come up with their own designs, then there would be so many more options for us out there.

What we really need is US aero options for our cars so we dont have to pay an arm and a left for shipping!!!!!

If there were even 3-5 aero kits available for the Q45 could you imagine the sales and the profits for a company that produced it....

I found an aimgain euro kit for $1299 on a Japanese site...it was going to cost double that to ship it....

I have found many many other items for way cheap but problem is shipping...

Not to be a jerk but pancakes spent $6k for his aimgain kit when if he was in Japan he could have paid $1299 or going through memory fab $2500 by boat but he air shipped his kit and paid the price to have it sooner...

I think he lives by the motto pay to play...kekekekekke but look at his car its a really nice looking car...stilll think he needs some more agressive 19's and take those 20's off but thats another topic for a different day and I know he has been working on it.

But yeah we really need US vendors with items on hand.....

I hope that all you making sacrafises are not charging it to a credit cards and paying cash. Otherwise there are no sacrafices..just another bill.

Pancakes I see it how it is. One of the reasons I say what I say IS becuase alot time your attitude about cost is kinda like who cares just spend the money type of attitude..When people are asking about certain kits you allways push the higher end kits...That is not judging BUT perception DONT CONFUSE the two...

It would be different If I just joinded saw your car and then made that same exact comment...
Then I could see your point.

I Know I am older than you and what not BUT I also know that I make many sacrafises as well to get what I want..Just we spend it in other ways.

When I was 14-28 years of age I spent a great deal hustling and not nickels and dimes...believe me I know what the mind set is of a 21 year old male...

We will see how your attitude changes as you get older with a family, get married, have school clothes to worry about , day care even more bills heck maybe work for yourself and not for someone...

THings change myfriend you might not see it now but they will.

YOu like to call out names about folks but I think the word you used was hypocrites goes to you as well...

IF you did not care what people thought you would not be fixing up your car to show it...because folks that show thier cars are folks that care what people think!!!! How many shows you been in???

not trying to bash but you have to open your eyes a little wider.

Here's a much better example than body kits.

Some of you know, I run the Art Dept. at SIMPSON Racing. We have a helmet called the Bandit which has been our signature helmet since the 70's. It's got like a pig nose look to it, I'll post pics. Bill Simpson, the founder of SIMPSON sold the company in 2001 or so and got out of the business. Well, now he's back in it with a company called Impact! Racing. Guess what, he's got a helmet that is a total copy of the Bandit. What can we do about it? Not a damn thing.

Original Simpson Bandit helmet design dating to the 70's:

Knockoff Impact Racing "Champ" helmet:

The VS kit isn't really a knock off, it's inspired by WALD, but it's been altered to fit the totally different USDM bumpers. So it's similar, but not the same. If it was a true knock off, it would be an exact copy which would still need to be modded to fit our stock bumpers.

The point is, companies take inspiration and ideas from each other all day long. Automobile manufacturers buy their competitors vehicles and take them apart, bolt by bolt to "reverse engineer" them! It's crazy, but that's what they do. It's done in every single business, so what makes body kits or lip kits any different?

what makes it different is peoples pride levels...

So are cool with it and some are not...I guess what I am learing is not to so fast to bash people for thier opinions and respect them as human beeings..Not one man is better than the other...

Here is a funny story..

When I first got into real estate I came across this guy who was looking into purchasing a fake rolex. His thought was IF I have this watch people will think I am succsessfull and want to use me as thier agent. When I blow up I will replace it with a real Rolex...Welll little did he know that I actually had a real one and I deep down inside I felt like yeah boy I gots the real deal you dont hahahahaha nanie nanieboo boo...

Well he hustled his way and was more succsessful than I not becuase of a watch but becuase he new more people at higher levels than me and did end up buying the real deal..He told me look what I just bought...and I said good for you....Shoot maybe his watch did help I dont know but I think it was who he knew and most of the folks I knew were street thugs and people with bad credit..hahahahaha

This is a perfect example of how sometimes people use knockoffs to help promote thier carrier with an intent to purchase the real deal when money allowed for it..

The difference with aero kits and this rolex watch is..That these rolex knockk offs go through very hardcore research to tryto replicate an exact copy..example the SWISS ROLES REPLICA with all the engravings..They are trying to fool you into thinking its a REAL Rolex and not a fake..

These aero kits are not saying thay are Autocoutre or Wald they are not branding them inside the bumpers like many higher end kits do..they are sold for what they are and nothing more...

Still do I think its right NO but can I undersand why someone would buy YES....

My shirts are another example...I have done all that I could do prevent someone form snaking ti but it has happend more than once..A few folks copied to the T and one changed it up a little...

Was I mad YES but just like FLS sais it happens all day...WEre my product better YES because I used the high res version and they used the low res images and could not get the detail I had..

I respect all your guys ways of looking at things but sometimes we all are hypocrites in our own ways inluding me....its hard not to we are humans and not perfect...

best argument i've heard yet. i don't know if i just never thought about this or just didn't care at the time but it makes some sense to me right now. that puts me on a fence about this particular vs kit, although i would personally never do business with them because they are a knockoff company (i.e. a lot of their products are exact replicas, they have even gone as far as presenting authentic goods as theirs iirc).

so i guess there are exceptions to every rule, but principalities override all that.

Well if it means anything, I have never had a credit card, I am patient and willing to make the sacrifice of earning the cash to buy everything I buy. One of the wealthiest guys i know told me when I was 15..

If you have to buy something with a credit card and spend more than 1 month paying it off, it was not a good purchase.

I live by this motto in the hopes that no matter how the economy fluctuates, I will never have the need to pay bills on something i wanted and couldn't afford.

Mortgages are a whole different purchase category. Only a handful of people(in relation to the population) can afford property on cash. I am not one of them.... yet. haha

Rich, I never said it was right nor would I spend that much for a kit. And those prices I quoted are on old Mercedes Benz's too, not just new ones.

Anyway, if its going to be modified then I dont care because your just paying for fiberglass thats going to get chopped up. If your going to rock it as is, then thats when I dont like the idea because thats stealing and faking the funk.

I think its about what looks nice. Im certainly not paying 3000 for a kit when I know imma crack it, some real front end damage is going to require replacement and then you are in the same boat waiting 3 months riding ugly-biting knockoffs whatever you call it, its the american way, but you bite a style create a new style and make it your own...but if stores in the US would actually carry product on hand it may be different...but thats not the case
