1/2 Din DVD Players
Anyone have any experience with any 1/2 din dvd players. I'm going to mod my nav in my 03 S55 to display video and add a 1/2 din dvd player. But I'm not sure which one to get. Any recommendations or help would be great.
This is what I've found.
Pyle PLDVD115
Lanzar Half Din DVD Player
I haven't owned any of these brands...but I'm probably leaning towards the Pyle one if any.

never owned a half din,
but about the brands...both are pretty generic imho.
ive seen their amps, decks etc in peoples rides when i was in school. i guess they were cheap on the net and boasted like 2000 watts for 200 dollars.
u should maybe search more for other half dins or just do a remote mount higher quality one. (i know you probably want the half din so you can keep it indash) and if you are confined to these 2 in the end id say go with the pyle, i cant stand how lanzar claims ridiculous numbers like watts at really high THD running 17v lol they just seem deceiving overall. pyle is more straightforward and basic compared to lanzar.

x2 the one that flows better sometimes makes up for price and performance. especially since your running your oem nav screen. not like it has 1080p video where the video input matters that much.

I know they are generic but these are the only two 1/2 dins that I could find. If anyone knows of better brands please let me know. If Alpine or Kenwood made 1/2 dins I would get it right away....but they don't. I agree with you about the pyle player...plus it has video and audio inputs that could come in handy later. But I just would like to hear if anyone used it before. I hate buying stuff from a company that I'm not familiar with.

This is half din? as in half of a single din?
Would they happen to make MP3/radios in a half din size? I'm looking for one for a little project I want to do.

i wouldn't buy either of those. to methats the worst of the worst and they both look tacky (especially for such a nice car). i did a google search and found a couple more options:
rca - name recognition, kinda ugly
myron & davis - not real familiar with this company although it does ring a bell, best looking, i would go with this one
icontv - leader in mobile video, offers a 3/4 din if you can fit it, not a great looking design
although no company makes their own dvd players (all use off the shelf parts) theres some things i just won't run (especially in an amg).

?? I don't see a screen on the myron & davis unit. The only screen is on the icontv unit...and that thing looks kind of generic. I also vote for myron & davis.

This one?
hes referring to the screen on the farenheit model.
i left out the farenheit/power acoustik/nesa because they aren't up to par imo. slightly better than the pyle/lanzar, but still not good enough for the merc.
and i'm just going bybrands here, theres a good chance that the actual optical drive in the top-o-the-line ones could be the same/similar as the low end.

sup brotha troy, you s-class is sickness..... that model is the performance teknique brand (logo on the right side, under the slot). i rocked the PT brand on my old Q, they ok but then the buttons get stuck after a while (on their decks and headrest monitors) so yeah, might wanna pass on that one coz ur benz too ballah... i also google'd and msn'd for you and came up w/perhaps these options for your consideration:
swapping to an older e-code console/trim:
or
a PAC video input converter so you can install a 1-din in your glove or elsewhere:
http://www.pac-audio.com/products/productsCatagory.asp?mmSearch=Add%20Video%20Inputs%20to%20Factory%20Installed%20Navigation%20LCD's#VCI-MBZ/1
(^^^these guys also make modules that let you control you aftermarket deck from your steering wheel buttons)
and finally,
talk to kent at security & sound systems, he did a blue '07 lexus GS with navi and made it where it play on the oem screen and everything (music, video, etc.) worked off of an iPod, the headrest screens look pretty good too. super clean the install.
good luck mayng! vr, mikey

yeah the Fahrenheit one was posted for variety, i have been looking into 1/2dins, and i think money is better spent on full din players.

Don't think going to back to an older trim is going to look good. But I didn't know about PAC audio. Their instructions seemed pretty straight forward. I wonder how much it is. The only company I knew of was tvandnav2go.com
I plan on mounting the 1/2 din where the ash tray is on the bottom. A full din dvd player will not fit. Does security & sounds bring in PAC converters? Looks like I'll be looking for a myron & davis unit. Thanks for the advice and input.

Just an update I found the Myron & Davis dvd player on ebay and got it for $225 shipped. Now I have to find some head rest monitors....maybe I should start a new thread for that.
