JIC SF-1... How low can i expect to go?

Hey guys, i have managed to score myself a very cheap set of JIC SF-1 coilovers in Japan and i am just waiting on them to be delivered (starting to wish i had gone for the airmail option now :-\), but while i wait i started thinking/wondering about what kind of drop i can get out of them?

My goal/dream is to emulate the Garage magical/Yuzealand Body Cima's with the chassis being around 1" or less off the ground (admittedly i might need to raise it up a bit more than that for the daily drive to work). But then these cars both have custom coilover setups (presumably to allow them to go lower).

Now, assuming all JICs would be designed to offer the same drops etc, how much lower than stock do they generally go? Or is it a car specific limit? 
If i got custom springs made up for them would that allow me to go even lower? Or would i need to modify the shock at the same time?


Reason for asking is because i see 'Full-Tap' coilovers getting popular with VIPpers, esp the really low ones. Are they necessary for getting the ultimate low?

I can drop mine pretty damn low! 

Well I have a Cima and I have 1 finger gap between the fender and the wheel up front (on 17's) and with full tank I have no gap in the rear. I still have about 2.5-3.5" to go up front and another 4-5" in the rear. So I can get the car to sit about 1" off the ground easily. The only problem is that you will hit bump stops if you drive that low.

Yeah, bumpstops.... I kinda forgot about them. Maybe thats why everyone goes with customs/full-tap over there?

The setup on your Cima sounds like it should be very similar to my Cedric (considering they have the same suspension!), so it sounds like they will go low enough in the rear... If it goes 2.5" lower than 1-finger gap in the front then that should be about right. Might want to go lower, but i will have to wait and see. I'll look into shortening the shocks as well, to avoid the bumpstop problem.

So it seems like the general consensus is that they go low enough to look crazy?? :) I was kinda worried it would only get to 1-finger gap all round at the lowest setting or something like that!

oh no, set them to the stiffest position and slam it. As soon as I get my new wheels and the car sits a bit higher I am dropping it some more 8) For the shows i will go as low as i can...I want to drive it into the show sitting 1" off the ground hehe.

heh yeah I know Vince. I'm trying to get some dish wheels. Got 0% APR for the next 12 months ;) How is your car coming along? I'm putting together drift/VIP car BBQ in a week or 2...will send out invites on myspace.
