Quick poll UAS w/ coils or Air runner Y33

I have been debating this for awhile, but im now ready to purchase my suspension.  I already have JIC Magic SF-1's in transit but I was thinking about just moving them and going with Air Runner.  Any recommendations from other Y33 owners or anyone that has knowledge on both set-ups.

I'd really look into it...make sure how low airrunner can go.   I've heard on certain cars coil/air can go lower but I can't be 100% sure.

UAS over Algernon coils.  Have yet to see a y33 with airrunner this low.  But airrunner is a quality BOLT-ON setup.  Any car besides the y33 and thats what i would run.

there are ups and downs on each kit just depends on what your looking for.

what are some of the ups and downs

there are pros and cons to both set ups...if you are into park hieght or ride hieght that will be a big difference..that Y33 above is low but is parked...I can lay frame just like that with my coils but I could not drive like that...
 
Good thing about coilovers is that if your into rideing low it makes for a nice stiff ride and you should not bottom out..rideing extremly low with air is you will get a bouncy  ride as you have less air pressure in the bags and probably will bottom out..
 
Lots of folks like coil and air combined .....
 
Albertacups are something to look into as well...this allows you for a few inch raise on coilovers when needed...
 
So it just depends on your wants and needs..I happen to love coilovers but at the same time have found my self in many situations where it would be nice to have air....

i dont need to ride super low, hawaii roads are horrible but so are roads in japan and i did well with just coil overs.  all in all pancaked when parked is all thats necessary, i will do a kit as well

Speed depends on the size of the lines.  I can promise I drive  lower than 98% of cars on coils or air runners here.  You will be able to drive lower and park lower with the UAS over coil set-up but the ride will be a little stiffer.

zion_97 you are on sf-1's correct?

airrunner is a very comfortable set up...i don't like that they use mechanical vavles, very basic system for what you pay for...1/4" lines move the bags really slow (can buy the optional valves to speed it up a bit)...easy to install and troubleshoot if you run into any problems...
 
UAS is a good system if used with the right coilovers...can go lower than airrunner but use 1/2" lines...moves like a pro hopper...need to reduce those down to 3/8" or even 1/4" to get the ride you want...don't like their fittings (push and pull type)...
 
if you're gonna rock UAS, i'd go with your SF-1's and buy the compressor kit through ridetech...(which will end up costing about the same as airrunners)

that was my old ride height...pretty bouncy especially in the front...this is when i wish i had uas on some coilovers...

anyone on UAS over insurance coilovers?

Insurance coils are the same as my algernons in build dimensions.  I am running 3/8" lines and did not buy a kit from anyone its all pieced together with components I spent many hours researching.  Do your homework and you ill find the exact set-up you want to run.

Oh and at my ride height pictured above my ride is actually very comfortable.  Better than most any car with coilovers i have baan in with an exepction to some Mercedes.  It is an amazing system if you can make it work and are willing to take the time to get it low enough.

if you ask me ... ill go w/ AirRunners. but ive never used UAS. ya but hes talking about a y33 here... the front suspension can only go so low then you hit the lca.. this is where the air runner kit fails... the rear of the car sits lower than the front imo is weird looking.... with the uas coil combo you can get lower in the front, depending on what coilovers you have....

i was dragging skirts, and tucking a 1/3 od a wheel doing it.

for MUCH less
and i could still do a track day if i wanted to.

i would agree that uas over coilovers is the way to go. i have not driven on my setup yet but just from doing the install i can say it would be hard to beat in terms of adjustability. at the same time if you want a simple wham bam install airrunner might be the way to go.

I've done a few cars with UAS bags over coilovers and the results were great for the customers' preferences.  That's what it boils down to really, what you expect from the ride and the ability to go as low as possible if needed.

you guys ever looked into BOLD WORLD air suspension????? It's a little more expensive than air runner, but I guarantee it's better than air runner by far.

I wouldn't go that far..you are right about one thing though..it's overly priced.

I am running 3/8" valves.  As I have said before, Id buy airrunners if they went low enough.  Its not about anything hitting an LCA, they just sit too high above the tires in the fronts of the y33's.  My bag is about 1/4" from my tire at all given times, but it never touches.

And Grant, what you laughin at?  I am constantly notching my front frame rails with my tires when I drive it lwoer than the first rollin pic I posted.  That was at 60 PSI, it will stop rolling at 40 PSI and I dont have a pinch weld to bang up up front, its a solid flat piece of steel and I dont want to tub it.

i heated and bashed up my front frame rail, got anothe rinch of clearance

If I didnt have two enormous wire harnesses that sit less than a half inch.  I have shaved engine bays before and relocating major harnesses as such is not something that wont cause major problems 90% of the time.  if I can figure out a way to get them out of the way I will attempt it once the kit is on and see how much clearance I have

take your fenders off
pull all the slack out of them, drill holes in the side of the frame rail, use zipties to hold it to said side of frame rail
put fender back on

Jermaine make sure to measure the diameter of the shock body.   The UAS bags need a minimum diameter of I think 2.14in.   Double check.

Yeah UAS with coils are the way to go!!

I got UAS and the coils are on the way. 

From the research I've done I think this is the best set up for ride and options!

My friends call it the Chair Force.

Also I've heard some parts of the Air Force is pretty intense.   I heard they go in and clear areas of hostiles and setup a whole airport.   Other then that they sit in chairs.

werd!.  i gotta admit air runner is comfortable but if your hardcore vip and all about pushing stance to the lowest and rim fitment to the widest id suggest a bag over coil setup.  my rear is cranked all the way up on my perches and it slams really low already, just imagine if i crank them all the way down.  plus with my JIC's i can adjust stiffness, i put it on super stiff to make sure i wont bottom out that easy

oh yeah it is harsh, but after riding around in it ive gotten use to the stiff ride

to me doing a "VIP stance" is not the smart thing to do with coilovers.   That just means they couldn't afford the proper setup or just plain stupid.    Reason is why would you want to roll around scraping everywhere?  You'd get stuck in the least expected places.   Scraping the body/kit would be a waste of money.    Air would give you the right look and allow you to roll around with less chance of damage.   If it is done for show then fine but to drive around that low...just stupid.

i didn't say anything about running coils over bags...personally, i would choose bags over coils any day of the week...
 
i said hardcore vip peeps usually run coils......as i stated in another posts..depends where you live and how your car is set up...
