rubbing in rear wheel wells?

hello everybody,
i pulled off the rear wheels yesterday to troubleshoot a loose-sounding suspension (looks like i just need to add washers to my camber arms and toe rods), and i found marks in the wheel well that indicate the tire's been touching.  does anybody else have this problem?  would it be safe to hammer in this area?

most likely you can just "bfh" it!

oh yeah, that would be important information, wouldn't it?

it's actually directly above the tire.  if you open the door (i should also mention this is a y33), it looks like the part directly behind the rear seat.  after knocking on it, it seems like the sheet metal around the door frame is a different piece from the part that's rubbing.

i'd tub it too but you could just bang it out or notch it.

Yea, just get a 5lb sledgehammer and start hitting it till it doesnt rub anymore.

bash it...make sure its behind the rear seat and NOT the door jamb...
 
there are 2 pieces of metal joined together spot welded at the fender lip...they are pretty close together until it clears the door jamb...

yes!  just beat it with a hammer.  no photos, sorry :(
