Finally a rapper with who's been there and done it speaks out. Hip-Hop is dying because of these horrible make a quick buck rappers. Soulja Has already fallen off the charts along with Crackhead Hurricane. I wish more talented artists would speak out about the non talented artists and shun them too make room for more artists with real talent. *daps* to my ***** Ice-T. I don't care how much people want to talk about him being old That's like dissing KRS-1 and Rakim, cause they all from the same era.

I still can't see the talent in Lil Wayne but obviously that is just me.

I feel what Ice T is say ing but he didn't need to get at Solja boy. Riza called him out too and I'm like he's a kid. You can't be mad at him for making a childish song. He was 16 at the time. You need to be mad at all the grown ass people that buy it and are dancing to it in the club. You are not supposed to know the whole Solja Boy song and dance when you are 25. Somebody needs to mentor that dude so he can step his rap game up.

Mentors....they all need one. Way too many whacked out songs these days. Too bad all the underground hip hop isn't mainstream..then we'd never have these issues. But these one hit wonders with lyrics that don't make ANY sense...shit needs to die. I mean..honestly I am amused by it..I laugh my ass off at shit that doesn't make any sense. I also in a way congratulate some of them for slingin' some weak sauce that kiddies just ate up! Now you're banking off the hype of people that have no idea what real hip hop sounds like. I respect Ice T for taking a step forward..might have said it a little off the first time, but he said what so many are thinking....me being one of them.

even though he was 16 at the time i believe he could have come with something more intelligent than the trash that he made, but that wasnt his strategy for the superman song. what he was going for was a hit in the clubs which is what most of the "hip pop" is on the radio is aimed towards nowadays. we can try to bring real hip hop back but it will not prevail since due to the industry and most listeners want hip pop that they can get stupid to in the club. its sad to see the underground hip hop heads that come with the most ridiculous flows that make you just rewind the track and think damn fall to commerical hip pop. i think my best example is mos def, but i understand they gotta get their cash.

everybody wants all hip-hop/rap/dance music to be the same thing but its not. some poeple like songs that mean nothing but get the club crunk, some people like psuedo-intelligent hip hop, some people like to ball out listenin to some money, cars, clothes s**t, some people like for their gangster rap to reflect their everyday life.

the fact that you know these dudes names means they are doing their thing. if you don't like it than thats it... you don't like it. you're not going to go to a country song and wonder why it sucks, you're just going to accept that its not your genre and move on. same thing...

i think a 40 something yr old man speaking out on a kid having fun is lame. i don't have speakers on my computer so i don't know what was said but i don't really need to. for being an "og" an "real life player" hes not keepin it gangster or player. straight hater.

btw, soulja boy's music is garbage.

I don't think it is about what people like it is about what is being played. You don't hear much of anything but "DanceRap" or "Rap to the women cause they make me rich" Rap. ICE and Snoop are making points that the radio is flooded right now with 1 certain style of Hip-Hop and not giving other styles of Hip-Hop the chance to regrow.

If someone knew nothing about rap and was told to listen to the radio and heard Soulja-Boy and Jim Jones and Lil Wayne They would think that is the only thing to Rap what these kinds of artist put out. When you know more about the music you understand the differences and want to hear all styles but money clouds everything and you only hear what record companies want you to hear. I like Watching BET and MTV sometimes so you would think they would cater to all fans, but sadly this is not how it is and that is what Snoop and ICE-T have issues with.

I kind of look at like VIP style...

Example...we have OG's or ellitist if you will that want VIP to be VIP platform cars only...keeping it real if you will.

Then we have the newbies trying to VIP anything..because this is style and times have changed and all that other garbage that was talked about recently.

So my point is if you like your shit oldschool and are not looking for excepting the new times than thats your perogotive...but just like lots of MODS on here say...things are changhing and we should change with the times...

I know its a wiered analogy but it fits right in with the new hip hop vs gangster rap....

There is a difference....Soulja Boy is just Hip hop rap inspired..hahahahahahaah NON PLATFORM

were as Ice T is straight OG Hip Hop Gangsta Rap..... PLATFORM

who listens to the radio?

more importantly, who bases their opinion of an artist off of radio play?

and if the answer is "i do" then you aren't really informed on the artist at all.

example: lil wayne - i've been listening to him since he was the youngin on cash money 11 years ago at least. i hate the carter 3 and the radio songs that came with, but if you try to tell me that he wasn't killing it from "tha block is hot" all the way up to "the carter 2" and even after that on some mixtapes then i'll call you crazy. thats what it was then. now a decade and a bagillion dolars later you think hes not gonna be commercial? what else shoud he be? if you've been rich 10 years and you're still talkin like you're living that life then theres a problem.

moral of the story: just like vip things change, you don't have to like it but respect it. oh... and stop listening to the radio!

I never liked wayne when he was with CMB. Only one I ever thought was decent from that clique was Juvenile and that wasn't as much. There are many ways to tell a story I never liked their's. Then again I am an east coast head so, that more than likely sways a lot of my opinion on rap. I don't base my opinion off radio but think about the majority of people who listen to music now. The ones music is geared towards is a younger crowd that are easily influenced by Radio and TV.

I have no problem with people being commercialized but how is hip-hop going to stay true to original form if it's tradition of home grown grass roots mc's gets washed out by commercial garbage. Let both world's get some media exposure. But that is not what's happening.

Now if you want to talk about what you do after you made it in the business? Step the f*ck off and help newer artist come up. Rap about your hustle, rap about your new lifestyle and you made (congratulations) now bounce out and produce new artists. All this singing and shit on songs with synthesized voice overs and constant reminders of how you "think" your the greatest rapper alive can cease. The greatest rappers know when to give up and move as most already have.

it'll be ok. theres always gonna be people that do it for the streets. then they're gonna get rich, famous, sell out and some young cat will come up makin fun of them.

commercial media = commercial rap

simple and plain. its doing exactly what its supposed to do. the mixtape game will always be where its at.

But with so much talk about hip-hop dying you have to ask "Is it really going to be ok?".

Common needs to save the people.

i don't think hip hop is dying, if anything it's thriving. mainstream rappers are killing that aspect of it, but there's tons of underground music keeping it alive. hip hop is a culture, a way of life, not just the music aspect. that being said, soulja boy needs to suck a dick.

i'm from houston and i'll be the first to say, it's not all paul wall, mike jones, and other bullshit you hear getting hyped and put up. that's just what everyone sees us as, but hopefully others in the game will step it up and show how it's really done and bring about a revitalization

like i said hip hop is a culture, rap is just a part of that culture, just like how grunge or indie is a part of rock. rap is just a facet of hip hop.

that being said, i'm not really a hip hop person, i just like to be well rounded.

what i'm sayin is they might have the same roots but are very different. if you're a hip hop head then rap, and especially commercial rap, is not gonna cut it for you.

just becuase you (general) like hip hop doesn't mean thats whats gonna be on the radio. and isn't part of the hip hop appeal its underground nature? its like going to mcdonalds looking for cuisine. your looking in the wrong place.

This dude spit the realest i've ever read just now :smiley-rofl:

I agree 100%

I've never liked Wayne and yes i listened to the Mix tapes and he had like 6 hot lines out of all the 117 tracks he put out in one summer. I mean really...

It comes down to flooding the market. If all people ever hear is wayne on the underground waves, then they'll get a taste for that and then think it's actually good. Like Cream Cheese and Coffee...they're acquired tastes. Wayne is an Acquired taste, and some people just can't acquire it.

I for one dislike his voice and his inability to rap about something for real. his freestyles are just that, FREEstyles. His records make no sense 3/4 of the time, and he's just an underground RAP artist. not hiphop, in my honest opinion.

Why do people want him on their tracks? because he's fooled the masses into believing he's some kind of talented lyricist and once someone does that, they turn into dollar signs.

Marketing 101 my dude. Make the people believe your product is gold and they'll cherish it. Flood the market with your product, you're bound to trip over the correct mixture once or twice...That's the case for wayne. He may have had all of 4 songs that were worth anything on his mixtapes that I've heard. It's just annoying to listen to someone talk over a beat and for the life of him can't stay on beat...

I'll finish with...

"It's my go! I'mma flow so Opposite of soft, Off the Richter! HECTOR...Ca-MACHO man RANDY SAVAGE..."

get that sh*t outta here :smiley-rofl:

EDIT:

but in all seriousness. My friend calls me a hater, And I guess I'll be that. But there's people who hate on wayne just because, and there's people who genuinely gave him a shot. I've given that dude all kinds of shots, and his "music" is just all together wack to me. I have hours upon hours of music on my computer. I have 2 tracks from wayne...one is Nike Boots by that Washington DC dude simply cause the beat is hot (and wayne is only on 1 verse) and some track by twista.

I am not going to try to convert anyone to Wayne haters or the such. I just wish people would realize there is a lot more to Rap than glamor and glitz and all that shit. But that is the only thing people want to see. Why? Well they have been conditioned from the start to think that's the way rap should be. It's like I said, if you came from somewhere and knew nothing about rap and some was like "here listen to this dude.
He's called soulja boy and he is one of the dopest mc's." You would just assume that's the case and start liking rap and only think the good rap sounds like soulja boy. This is not the case but very close to it.

I just wonder if as these generations get older will their tastes change?

to me music is about matching the feeling that i'm feeling at whatever point in time. like a soundtrack to my life.

if i'm in the club i don't mind hearing the nonsense. s**t, if i'm feeling it (drunk) you might catch me boogying a bit.

if i'm ridin around shoppin, eatin, flossin, etc. i'll probably be on some get money type s**t ([mixtape] wayne, ugk, jeezy, juvie, [old] ti type stuff)

if i'm feeling kinda gangster or just wanna tear the trunk up it'll be 3-6, bg, etc.

if i'm really feeling like f**k the world i'll be on some z-ro or trae.

thats about the only moods i go through, so thats about the only music i listen too.

i've never been a fan of hip-hop because it never spoke to me, and people are always complaining main stream garbage. to me it sounds like y'all are butt hurt because you're type of music is outshined by an associated style.

i remember when i wouldn't here anything i liked on the radio, but now that the south has come into the spotlight we get play. i still don't listen to it. its usually the worst of the worst, songs written by the artists to be suitable for commercial play.

but seriously, if kids are growing up listening to dance songs and aspiring to be successful is it really all that bad? sounds like what they should be doing to me.

Yes that is the case, I am a bit upset that there is only one style of rap that gets media attention. It shouldn't be that way but the powers that be have the say so.
So it's like you say, I just don't listen to the radio. I am just hoping someone could explain to me what the fuss is about these rappers that the majority of the people I talk do not like. So how and why are they so popular.

Yeah for cd players and your choice music.

I wouldn't say that I'm butt hurt. I actually take pride in listening to the unheard of or little known sh*t.

I agree Black, tracks expressly depend on how I'm feeling or what I'm doing.

When it's time for me to shine up, I put on the classic JayZ (Reasonable Doubt) and i stay with the older stuff. You know like Lords of the Underground, Digable Planets, Rakim, and Queen latifah had some ill tracks back in the day too. Some newschool sh*t too...Double Helix, Strange Fruit Project, CYNE etc.

When I'm getting hype it's always something southern and grimey. Nothing shiny, nothing really goofy. Stuff like Wreckshop, Ti, Big Kuntry, Thrill Da Playa etc.

When it's chill time, I'm playing everything. I listen to everything outside of Hiphop too. I do that neo-soul thing, I drop some Common on, some Jill Scott even. Hell i love Smooth Jazz...480East is a nice ass group...

Anyway, it's not like there's only one type of music, I agree. I don't particularly care about what plays on the radio because I'm listening to the MP3 player most of the time.
