I know this is kind of random, but anybody else notice this post ***** awesome guy with one of the cleanest q45's around has disappeared from the forums? Seriously, anybody know why he's not logged on in 2 weeks? Or is he on vacation somewhere LOL.

Alot of 'elitists' who are quite childish really.  Oscar was one of the few that was really here for the cars.

I was wondering the same thang about oscar....about freddies comments......I do agree...this was more of a VIP community now and continueing to grow into lots of drifter cars and almost anything goes now.
 
I have tried to keep things pure and cut throat but lots of folks thought otherwise. Now I see many many post about hey check out this 240 and check out this and that....

With the forum we were told to give slack and now I think its a combo of a VIP froum/lux/tuner/drifter forum all packaged into one:sad:
 
Dont have the energy to fight or debate my opinions but one big reason why I stay busy with work and dont check in as much...not a whole lot to see...
 
Really WidebodyQ's build was what was keeping me tuned in weekly now its done...
 
just some food for thought....think we need to go back to its roots again..and try to keep it more on a VIP forum rather than a combo forum...I think thats what made VSC what it is today...now its more like commercialized and not so VIPish if you will.

I dont think its Elitist that should be the problem.  People use to come to this forum to read about VIP and see how VIP cars come along.  Now its more of the PM's of hey whats your offset or what tire size i should run.  When it first started everyone would talk about the cars and try to get it to look like that car on there own....There is no more of that.  There is so much BS on this forum maybe because its not monitored or maybe its because you dont want to be mean as a moderator and put all the people in line.  This is a VIP forum for people that want to learn and that have VIP cars.  I mean its like us posting up on a Honda forum and people just dont care unless u have a honda.  there is a reason why there are DRIFT,NISSAN,TOYOTA, LEXUS, and VIP.  its more like its just flooded with people that want to do it but arnt even reading anymore just PMing people.  I know im not the only feeling like this and there are a few people that leave and never come back.  Some people rather just be around people that have a common goal instead of being cool and try to look like everyone else.

I don't post a ton, but I do come on here to see the VIP Platform cars, as that is what I own (a 2GS.)  I appreciate that VIP is about "lifestyle" vs. just the cars, but I think when the "Lifestyle" starts to overwhelm the forum vs. the "cars" (ie: elitist attitude) it takes away from the site as a whole.  
 
Personally, I don't care much about the "lifestyle" and don't cater my lifestyle around it... just my car.  I was excited to come to this forum as its rare to have a niche dedicated forum that sticks strictly to its niche like VSC does.  My car has come a long way and I owe alot of it to this forum.  It would sadden me if this forum turns into a mass free-for-all taking away from its roots.
 
Many forums evolve into "quantity" vs. "quality."  I sincerely hope that VSC does not share that same fate, as the forum offers a wealth of information for VIP Platform cars.

wrd, I really hate this.  I get a few emails everyday asking is this vip, is that vip, is this is the right size tire to run, how much stretch will it be, what offsets should I run....  Im getting tired of people wanting everyone to do thier work for them.  I took the time to read through the threads, other websites, etc...  to learn what I have now.  Its like all these noobs just dont care, they think VIP is just this new FAD.  I know oscar was gettin tired of all these new members.

VIP in America should  not about the lifestyle its more about modding your car to your style and trying to gain respect from the ones who started it all...

This site is great and as long as there is a VIP101 and we keep the lazy, not-in-it-for-the-tradition, can't bother reading, want everything served to them because they feel they deserve it, know-it-all, trolling people in there.... we'll be ok. If you see someone posting garbage don't just post in the thread complaining, flag the post we have that function available. Remember everyone on staff is working for FREE, we do this out of love for the site and community, your help is appreciated when it comes to weeding out those that may be detrimental to this site!

I like where this thread is going. Cuz I can rarely find threads worth posting in anymore...There is an exuberant amount of non-vip based cars flooding this site. I think if you want to allow this to happen it should be sub-catergorized off of the main thread/post list....BTW I know you guys are working for free and appreciate all you do and can do to help out...

I quit answering PMs about my cars specs a few weeks ago, its all posted somewhere on here.

I know you guys work for free and its hard for us to just say something to someone then it gets in this argument.  not worth the time.  rules are rules and they have to obey them and as far as moderators you seem to be the only one active.  maybe its time to get more mods to keep everyone in check.

I agree with you to a point Freddie, that being that we do need you guys to help regardless of the arguments it will cause, how can we know something is broke if we aren't asked to fix it? but you are right.... maybe more mods could help the situation a bit more. we have other changes coming to address these issues too trust man! :biggthumpup:

Allot of noobs coming along. the new generation of vip. we just gotta have patience w/ them and educate them. As OG we should welcome noobies and also steer em to the right direction so there spending there money the right way. Later on along the line they might be the new Pancakes or the new WidebodyQs. Never know.

ive seen this all too much...hmmm this forum is a bunch of bs now....there is a few amount of ppl who are actually still into the true vip platforms. and its a SELECT few.

I see your points, but no reason to leave the forums. If  people have problems with the forums, we hvae a suggestion/site feedback forum. Post your comments, concerns there. If it's that big of a deal, speak up about it! 
 
Moderating staff is here, just because they don't post all the time doesn't mean that they aren't around. Also, most of the time moderators did moderating was when they were cleaning up argument threads, which got out of control quite a few times. If that's what you want to happen again with moderating/banning (remember Qclass/transformcelsior?) then all you have to do is start arguing with people lol. Maybe Oscar left because Qclass isn't around to send snide remarks to him, or argue with him with stupid threads that Qclass posted. (which most of us did) 
 
If you think newbs are a problem, then tell them to kindly leave, or ask them WHY they want to do and why they are here. 
 
I was like Oscar/Rich, and apparently Freddie too, in wanting to keep the forum strictly VIP cars, but others didn't want that. Frankly, I just got tired of arguing/coming off as a douche on the forums because I'd say what others wanted to, or I'd speak my mind as to why that looks stupid, or why that won't work because it's not a vip car. Too many people took offense to that...and the forum got shut down for a month. 
 
All in all, speak up your mind if you don't like what's going on. As much as this forum is something you visit, it's something you are part of, and anybody can suggest a change for it, who knows, maybe your suggestion will come to life. 
 
And yes, we do need to keep this forum more of VIP cars, and less of 'look at my 22"s on my SC'. 
 
I wish we'd change the registration to how supraforums is or how LJC is with people having to get approved to register on the forum. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, if you don't have a vip car, you shouldn't be here. If we limited registration, instead of the vip 101 (which is a start, but apparently people aren't happy with it) maybe people would be more content. People should have to submit a picture of their car, showing they have a vip car, before they are allowed to register lol. 
 
OR maybe people need to start posting up their builds of their cars again, even though not many people seem to be doing anything anymore....
 
Also, the whole question about offset/wheel/tires...just direct them to the tire catalog, or the wheel offset thread, or something like that.

The whole true vip platforms crap is garbage, if you want to live in the past fine..but times change.  But keeping to the style is totally key..I too get flooded with PM's, but I try to help everyone I can.  We can sit here all day and complain about it..but if we don't try to do something about it...we have no right to wine.  It's in our hands to keep things on the right track..by doing nothing, we fail.  Think about it...

i've noticed that 90% of the new threads are created in the intro, and a decent percentage are pointless threads where OP's would post "hi or hi im new i have a ****, etc. while others dont even have cars that they would like to VIP style

there should be a general Intro thread outline stating, name, location, car, expereince, etc. Instead of a simple "hi, im here to learn"

and all along this is why i've said that we need to stick with tradition for GUIDELINES and understand that everything evolves..... just not into "VIP 240's" or "VIP trucks" or "VIP ferraris" get real and get a clue people..... we are the driving force of this style indirectly.... where do you think the latest DUB influence in VIP cars in japan is coming from? Oh that's right they came up with DUB too and Euro styling....... right :biggthumpup:

Yes, I do agree with you.  We def have to do something about this, but what?  Do we need to moderate more, how about letting the noobs register but then having to been screened to even start posting on the site?  I know on the canon forum I am on, you cant join certain thread groups or even see them if you have less than a certain amount of posts AND referrals.  We may want to put a policy like this in effect.

Good idea.  Def should be an outline in the VIP 101 thread, having all the new members answer the same general questions about who they are and why they want to join this community.

I mentioned long ago that we need to change several sections of guidelines to keep things current.  Newbs get confused when they read shit from 5+ years ago.  People talking about 2005 like it was ol' school?  WTF?  Ol' school was the 90's...and many people still think that's what vip is.  That was just one era...one evolution towards what it is today.  There's been several eras leading up to where we are now and all need recognized and explained...apparently.  People just need educated..that's all.  We can't make them do anything..but we can at least not let misinformation screw it all up.

Im not talking about pure platforms just people that grasp the concept... why direct them these people know how to hit the search button right?  im not going to sit here bitching about it... all the TRUE "OGs" back from the old old site in 04 should be given something special on thier "avatar specs"  On this other forum I frequent, all the old members of the board that were part of it before it changed names and websites are given a lil OG next to thier screen name.  I dont know how this would help, but at least it would give the noobs a clue as to who has been here, done that, and has knowledge to spead. :shrug:

although i dont have a large post count or a fully build vip car. i can understand where you guys are coming from. just an idea though, you can have a certain area of the site where it is open to people who are invited. That way there is a certain amount of control on who is posting but at the same time there is the rest of the forum to grow, which will hopefully provide usefull information. like having a certain area just for some of you OGs. lol

Hmmm...this is an interesting thread.  I hardly post but here goes...

Personally, I know a few guys that refuse to get on any type of forums because of misinformation, newbiness, eliteness, etc.  I think we all have to understand that this is a PUBLIC forum and there is no way we will ever have a pure VIP board unless there is some type of member dues to be paid.  That would be the first step in establishing the line between who's die hard and who is not.

When I first bought my 1993 LS400, I searched for the cleanest car I could find.  I paid $7000 for it in 2004.  What's sad to me is, there are guys lookingfor the cheapest one they can find and trying to do it up.  That's the wrong approach, cause then they get in the situation where they are saying to themselves, I only paid $2000 for my car, why do i want $3500 wheels?  These are the guys that don't know what it's like to love cars.  I remember rolling my fenders and dimpling them.  I was a guinea pig, no one was doing this shit.  Newbs should be thankful (yes THANKFUL) that there are guys that have come before them to give them advice.

I have noticed that there have been a lot of guys showing up in NON-VIP platforms.  I don't even understand that.  But whatever floats their boat...it's lame to me.

In my opinion, we can argue all day and babysit and babysit, but like Freddie says, if that happens then people will jump ship and the quality of this board will become a joke.

My recommendation is to put out more information on the main forums page.  Perhaps do the history of VIP, a tech section of articles.  I know this is done in the subforums, but give newbs access to all this.  Overload them with information.  Perhaps if all info was condensed you wouldn't have people PM'ing and asking all sorts of dumb questions.

I dunno...did I even address what you are all talking about?!

No, some of them aren't in the game anymore..moved on.  Some just don't post anymore since it took up too much of their time.  Sometimes there doesn't need to be any secret reason, and sometimes we need to respect their privacy.  Either way..changes will come..no doubt there.  Instigation isn't going to get us anywhere, nor is thug talk...haha.

dont get me wrong i respect most of the mods and john and mike for doing the best job you guys can do.  We still support the forum... sucks to see that good people leave.

I for one think we need a stronger staff of MODS. People who all agree and should not be restricted to speak there minds and worry about who they are repping...ONE REASON I stepped down...I did not rep what VSC is turning into....
 
WHen you have a newbie post with I know this aint vip but just to show you where I am comming from...the first ones you see are mods posting Great,Looks Good,,Welcom...and that is the polite thing to do but we need mods schooling them folks from the get go!!!! Saying Sorry dude that 240 just dont cut it here...welcome but come stronger.... 
 
I mean what does it matter to show your long list of non vip car platforms to prove that you are going to do up a badd ass VIP car...My thought is why bother..show a vip platform....dont bring in your past of modding tuners and drifters...that has no buisness here period...thats when I just say aaaaaaa this guy just dont belong...but I dont post in those threads anymore so I dont get called out like before.....
 
I have made many posts and comments hitting on all these points and was called an ellitist...I was told this is a VIP CAR STYLE froum not a VIP forum....

Yeah i still check in but I usually only read certain members post/threads cuase I allready know that many others are just BS....
 
If you been around long enough you know who is who...I have spoken to a few really OG's and they have said the same...its just not the VSC it used to be...BUT I think thats where they (Admins) want to go with this..
 
We can give all the advice in the world to newbies and try to explain and point in the right direction...but if there are NO guidelines and rules to fallow then nothing matters.

some people will never let go of the past while others will want to think only of the future.... why not focus on the now of the situation? forget the bickering about who's VIP and who isn't, who's platform and who's not, yes there are guidelines and traditions, PLEASE LET"S FOLLOW THEM but we don't have to be enslaved to them either if the creators of these aren't right? 
 
Furthermore, When I first started Aug 06, I saw a forum that was so down to earth in comparison to other sites, people helping others and being so constructive in their criticism, people you knew that if you met in person they would shake your hand and give you a half hug and say "damn bro about time i got a chance to put a face to the ride and name!"
 
This place used to be about logging in and having fun and talking cars and setting up meets to hang out and do the same but in person.... what happened to all of us? Is this what this site is coming to? a bunch of cranky pissed off fools who think they crap cookies and no one better say what comes out smells like shit?????
 
I haven't been to any meets due to the fact that my car was down and out. Now i'm almost back and ready to roll to as many meets as possible, get my ass ripped a new one by AFLS430 and crew in SD, get myself shot up in NorCal visiting the norteño brothers, or just spend mad cash in Vegas with the CSI boys hahahahahahaha

Remember why I was banned?  I was banned for telling it like it was and for trying to educate people on where vip was headed.  Does that make all of you so called OG's wrong?  No, it just means you didn't know as much as you thought you did.  And that's okay, but what isn't ok, is not seeing the truth about change and evolution.  If you want to stay stuck in the past..then fine, that's your prerogative.  I'm going to keep current because that's the style I like.  they are all eras of vip and vip styling.  That's what needs to be taught...

look at alot of the cars now in Japanese meets and shows...new styling q's painted wheels brighter colors...but what is not changing is types of  vehicles....

THis is either a VIP forum or not plain and simple...VW forums are for VW...offroad forums are for off road...and so on..but with that said I think and this is my opinion lots of folks want to send false messages rather than speak the truth...I do admit I am cought up in the past because I have I learned more back then than now...I am never to old to learn and when you get to a point where a forum does not give you what you need to learn and grow ...then hhhmmmmm...
 
I think thats why lots of folks were all over WidebodyQ's build progress...that is a thread to remember...something to learn from...if you think outside the box and have the money patience and vision you can make your car look so sick its not funny.....Best thread of the year besides racingsyles new LS release thread....

Thinking outside the box is the point.  That's what's happening over there.  And in case you missed it, it's not all the same cars.  In fact, there's far more euro's involved now.  Which I said was happening...and it still is.  I'm not saying Civic's and 240's and shit should be accepted...in fact I mostly agreed with the things you've said here and there...but it's wasn't the full truth.  You were missing some details.  And this is a vip style forum...says so right up there in the url.

Even though this forum was pretty much based just like the magazine VIP STYLE.  Do you think they feature cars that arnt VIP platforms?  I think its going back to basics will really help this forum.  We all have to learn how to crawl before we walk.
I mean we dont need to go way back but there has to be some guide lines and a line has to be drawn at some point.  But hey who are we to say right we are just forum members and not anyone important.

Big body sedans and even your mom's mini van slammed to the ground with huge dubs kissing the fenders.  I thought it was just nuts.  I had seen some pics of these cars back in high school, but never really knew what it was all about and I really didnt care.  So, I starting posting some and got to reading everything and anything that had to do with vip or vip style.  It actually took me some time to grasp all the vip guidelines/rules but I did it with the help of yall off the boards.  We all learned a great deal from each other, and others will too.  Just because someone doesnt have a true vip platform at the time, doesnt mean they are not into the scene/style.  If they like it enough, they will research and learn but that cant happen with misinformation.  Before the site was moved,  people would pounce on anyone that threw out misinformation or asked the infamous question "Is this vip?" ...what happed to that?  Its like this new site made all of yall soft or something (no need to take offense).

and if going back is the key then let's all pick up some old school nissans and toyotas and do them up wildstyle and anyone who has anything other than that is not VIP.

Just look at what they are doing in Japan. We look to them for inspiration right? We look at them pushing the envelope (even though it's changing to tucked wheels, rather than flush for some) and what are they doing right? They are still sticking with the flagship cars, or at least the same ones. I don't see many different cars besides the 'platform' cars in the pictures. Maybe we need to be reminded of this. I still think that if you don't have a platform, then you don't really belong here. 
And by platform, before pres knocks me for saying 'platform', it needs to be something that has 4 doors, an inline6/v6/v8 and something that will look 'vip' when done. I'll say it again, like I've said before, it's not vip or vip style, 'vip style' is the styling of a vip car. IF you don't have one it won't look right. Jags are included in vip styling ok! But not most other cars. 
Some are exceptions to the rules. BlackonBlacks car would be an exception. Firelizards car would, only because that guy has been here for a long time, and refuses to give up his  econo car for a platform.  Really, those are the only people that I see on here with a car that is not 'normal', but will be accepted once completed. Anything else no. Oh and those Indo or singapore dudes with the crazy cars, like the FabA32 guy.

I have to agree here. It is fine that this site is vipstylecars.com but people let that go way to far. In the end you can look at a car and tell if it is vip or not by the way the modifications have been executed. I think we need to post ***** the hell out of the 101 section with pictures of REAL vip cars. Low, slammed, pushing the limits even for the platform. Stateside I don't think many people have even gotten to this level yet, but we are on our way. Look at widebody and RaCinStylez I wouldn't think twice if I saw those cars at some of the top vip events in Japan, they fit in. The more that we show new members, and remind old members, that you get props for doing things new and different, the more people will go in the right direction. 

I know that I am a MOD on this forum, but in the end I don't even feel like I have a right to chime in. I don't even have a damn car, let alone one that is vip or vipstyle:smiley-rofl: but I do think that we need to do something to rejuvenate this forum. Forget looking back to the old days and how great they were, those days are long gone, lets look to the future and see how we can make things better. Funny how this tread started out about PANCAKES and now it has turned into this, we all need to go back to 101 for jackin the crap out of this thread:thelaw:

No not at all but you must be able to define what "going back to the roots" means. Is that going back to specific chassis codes only? certain platform guidelines like Caoboy stated? or ? I mean understanding and agreement is the key and without we'll keep having these issues, yell it out man and don't be afraid, [B][U]you know on this one you have a lot of our support[/U][/B] but we need less ambiguousness and more clarity.

Like Racinstylz I also came with a non-platform.  I started with an SC400 then a 929.  I now have a KA9 and an F50.  I searched, posted, and learned so much about the style.  I have been coming here a long time to see other projects and ask for advice.  

There is still lots of good information to be had.  The tire stretch and tire catalog threads are invaluable.  I just focus on the positive on this site and ignore the bs.  It's great to see projects develop such as widebodyQ, elpresidente, MrExecutive, AFLS430, racinstylz, no-other, Pancakes and more.  They are the diehards that know quality and excecution are critical. 

As long as there are dedicated VIP enthusiasts here such as those listed above, I will continue to be active on the board.

i didnt say anything about being a specific platform dont get my words twisted.  I have not yet said anything about that. I just think there should be a line drawn and well if you dont want it then its your forum u guys are the mods that say what stays and what goes. I just dont want to see good people leaving.  this all started with where is this person and i responded.  I mean do you not see that there is a ongoing trend here where people come and people leave to go on another forum or some of us that sit behind a computer pretend they like this forum but want to start a better forum....  I know alot and its not just regular joes its like MODS! ADMINS! now tell this doesnt disturb many... Its bad and its up to you guys to fix it and if it dont get fixed then this forum will be put in the past.  Im just trying to express what alot of people on here feel.  This will be my last post on this topic and its up to you mods and admins to do what you want to do.

I for one don't think it is a joke, but I agree with SiknLow, we need more clarity. Plus, we have to take into consideration that we are not the root of this type of modification. We are emulating a style that has been around in Japan for a long time. I think everyone here is for making things better but the question is how do we do that.

I wanted to wait a bit longer, let the thread grow a bit more before I share my thoughts and opinions...  Everyone, please sit down for this is going to be a long one. 

I kinda feel a lot of the issues are pointing towards me.  That my decisions are what making us lose our valuable members.

First off, VSC was started in Dec. 03.  I had barely just scratched the surface on my car.  I had just returned from doing my first SEMA show with Junction Produce.  Originally, we didn't have a place to go.  Kudo-san and I were jumping from forum to forum trying to find more people into VIP cars.  In the end, I decided to go ahead, start VSC on server that cost me out of pocket, 8 dollars a month.  I've watch it grow, die, grow, die, and grow again to where it is now.  I lost good friends because we didn't see eye to eye on how VSC should be run.  I lost a lot of people's respect because of the mistakes that I did, the decisions I made, and the mis-management of tools I had and what not.  I handed the keys off to a good friend and I disappeared to put my life together cause VSC was just figment of my imagination.  During that time, a lot of the original members were not happy with the influx of new members coming in and "ruining" VSC.  I was still "gone" and so my original staff of admins and mods left and took their valuable information with them.  VSC was pretty much dead once again.  Thats when our current staff took over.  I enlisted the help of Mdenoga and he took it upon himself to bring VSC back.  I cannot thank him and my current staff what he has done.   We went from a server that cost me 8 dollars to needing a dedicated server to handle the load that VSC was creating.  That was when I made the decision to FINALLY accept sponsors for the forums.  Something I DIDN'T WANT TO DO FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE FORUM.  No way I was able to afford the costs of running a dedicated server and the cost of living.  It was a decision that tore me up on the inside.  I knew, from that day, it was going to be tough to be the VSC I always wanted it to be...  I do not profit ONE dollar on VSC.  Not one dollar goes into my pocket that comes from our vendor sponsors.  Ask any of them, its damn cheap compared to what other online forums ask.  All I ask, is that the server costs / fees are covered.  I don't go out looking for more vendors.  I don't have a marketing team that looks for more ways to generate more money.  I just want to keep the bills paid to keep this place running.  I am still learning on how to keep everyone happy...  My vendors, my staff, and the members.  I've made a few bad decisions this year in regards to VSC.  I am learning to re-acclimate myself back into the swing of things as a member of VSC and as owner.  I should not have allowed one of my staff members to become a forum sponsor.  I didn't know it would anger the rest of my forum sponsors with threats of them leaving.  I do apologize to all parties involved.  I had to go between really good personal friends, my staff, and my forum sponsors.  That put me in such a spot that I thought I wouldn't get out of.  I apologize once again to everyone involved.  I learned, and now, things are in place to ensure it won't happen again.

I have offers almost on a weekly basis to sell VSC to them.  I always say no and that it is not for sale.  I am getting the hint now.  I guess people want me off VSC and so the forum can go in a different direction. 

On to my staff. Its not a secret that I work for a nice little computer company named Apple Inc.  Its a very DEMANDING company to work for.  I'm surprised sometimes, I am still sane and still standing.  My current staff is a godsend.  These guys are great.  All volunteer, all love.  Can't beat that. I'd pay them if I could.  Maybe I should raise the advertising rates so we could?  Only if these guys revolt... (please don't, we aren't ready... hahaha)  These guys are the lifeline of keeping this place together.  We are so busy trying to kill the drama that goes on these forums...  I told them, whatever we need to do to keep the peace.  Thats all.  I hate having that motto, but I just don't want any public spats on the forums.  That should be kept private, cause it is not VSC's thing.  We are a peaceful group...

RaCinStylez said it perfectly.  That was the EXACT reason why VSC was started by myself.  It was there to educate people.  No one had a true grasp of what VIP Cars were back then.  Even myself, hence the reason I created VSC.  I needed to find a place where we can all get together and compile our knowledge.  RaCinStylez, thank you for the inspiration to myself.  Seeing your post is what moved me.

Now my choice of the name............   VIP Style Cars....  it was a take on VIP Style magazine.  This is what we were, a Style.  A style of modifications to our cars.  It was much more broad than just VIP Cars.  It stuck to me, and also.... haha at the time, one of the ONLY URLs available that had VIP and CAR in it hahaha.

Now to the future of VSC...  There were a lot of things mentioned in this thread that I will take back to the lab and start brewing.  I do not want to lose valuable members and at the same time, I do not want to turn away someone who is interested in what we have to share.  We are going to have a lot of members who do not own an "accepted" chassis.  One of the biggest things going against the US over the Japanese market is our pool of "accepted" VIP cars.  We have a smaller choice of chassis to start with.  Ok, now that your chassis is taken, now who is to help with your work.  Our choice of companies / vendors / dealers of parts is hard to come by.  There are a lot of shops that say they do VIP cars, but they never churn out anything.  Good VIP Car shops are hard to come by here in the US... So PLEASE SUPPORT THOSE THAT ARE.  The US market moves around lower priced parts.  What people can buy that is "cheap"...  I remember, the only thing people wanted to buy back in the day, were Fusa's....  Thats it.. No one bought anything but Fusa's...  Even then, it wasn't cheap but it was the VIP thing to do.  Bugged me, but who am I to say otherwise.  I didn't want to be some elitist in regards to what VIP is.  If we gotta create a section just for our "OG" members, I have no problem with that.  I can create that pretty easily.  We are a pretty flexible group of people.  Look at the logo?  No one liked the logo we created, so we were open to let the community decide on what it will be.

So going back to grassroots?  That would mean, trimming out members, stopping all vendor ads, and just being what we were before we grew so big.  Just a bunch of enthusiasts who enjoyed our cars and what we do to them.  I can't do that.  I can't downgrade our server.  I can't backtrack on my word that I gave to our forum sponsors.  What I can do, and what I will do is compile this thread and revive VSC for the future.  There is a lot of good ideas to keep VSC going.  I promise to read this over and over again so that I never lose track of what VSC is...  We already started VIP 101, that is an evolving process.  We were talking about how we can continue to use VIP 101.  We had a few things that I wanted to implement this weekend on my only day off of the week.  I was going to sit down and try to put what we already agreed to into place.  I saw a lot of stuff in here that I will add to our growth of VSC.  I hate losing valuable members.  I was devastated when I lost V8_Aristo and his crew.  I don't want to lose more of our valuable members. 

In the end, with our economy the way it is, we should be happy that we are able to do what we do.  That we have our families, friends, and cars to be with.  

I am open to ANYONE who would like to talk to me on how we can make it better.  Do we need more moderating staff?  I think so... I want a larger staff because our small group can get stressed out.  Please PM / EMAIL / AIM / CALL me if you would like to be part of VSC's staff.  I am open.  

If anyone wants to just talk to me on how we can make VSC a better place for everyone.  The "OGs" the "Newbies" and people just trying enjoy VIP cars / VIP Style Cars... please get a hold of me. The way you do it is with rules^^^^^ Not just anything goes...NO offense Gao Jian but your a moderator with out vip car?? I mean how can you give advice when you have not been there done that..I know it may be hard to swallow but I think its very important that mods are not just polite people or who have been on the forums for a while..They should be people that actually have put some dirt in..and have a car to show for it with experience...I know El presidente from what I have heard has done a lot but I would really like to see his car with perfect fitment..The only car I have seen from him is a 300z...yeah I have seen his jaguar on his site but nothing with wheels and a drop from hell...Drift Girl I have yet to see a VIP style car..I have seen her sweet ass lexus coup but not a VIP car...and others the same...
 
I know lots of you folks like to keep your projects on the downlow and don't like to post but I know I would take your post more serious if I saw what car was behind those posts...Thats just me might sound anal but I can admit it...
 
Siknlow is an admin and although he does not have a "Platform" his inifinit was done up nice before it got slammed into..something that I think everyone would agree on...He took what he learned and implemented it into his ride and made one hell of a VIP stlyed car. PROPS...
 
Something I would like to add to this is that when you look at VIP car magazines..what cars get the big pictures of the cover pages..???? not just your ordinary styled car..but something that deserves to be there..a VIP car..most ARE platforms and yes I do respect a nicely done up non platform IF executed correctly..BUT at the same time so much more effort has to go into that car to get the props than a regular platform..so why not just go with something easier from the get go.??
 
and what freddie said is so true...peoples are getting softer and softer because we are almost forced to or we are threatened with a ban....VIP styling and folks I don't think are your ordinary nice guy pretty boys...I think we all have an attitude problem and VIP cars have that attitude in the way the look..ATTIDUDE....yeah boie.

The old VSC that's how it was from what I remember and I respected much more people and did not take offense..rather motivated me to gain respect with what I could do with my car.
 
I may not have a kit and my fenders are still lacking the fine touches BUT I did try myself and can tell people from past experience where you will go wrong when rolling fenders..I put some DIY's into this forum trying to help people install curtains that are easy as hell anyways and to teach a painting technique that could simulate wood grain...
 
I do think my car sits real pretty and I am a proud owner or a VIP CAR...I get so much props from folks around here its crazy...old and young then they see my interior and are blown away...if I did not invest so much money into my business this year I would have been done...but at the same time my business will take my car to a whole other level once I am really on my feet and I will surprise you guys what I have in store..
 
but I think what has really inspired me is racingstyles, freddies car and especially widebodyQ's 
 
this is how it should be..inspired to go that extra mile. inspired to think outside the box with your sus/body work fitment... doing what it takes to ride low....for a while it felt like the old VSC but now damn it widebodyq's car is done and I am hoping someone else will take his place.

If I could speak my mind at tell it like it is I would join the force again..however I do want to be a vendor again once I get my new equipent and dont really know if there is conflict of interest there...I read what john wrote about staff beeing vendors and I do agree I see some conflicts of interest...

Freddie, what do you want to see done? You seem to have a lot of issues with the forum from this thread, why not list stuff you'd like to see done?

Which is why I never refer to my car as a vip car outside of the forums. Im especially careful now with the conversion because I don't want magnums with 300c front end conversions thinking they are vip.
 
 
Whats missing is the tradition. I Wish we still had people like One Ton VIP telling people "the vip thing to do would be to . . ." The life style is what really got me hooked (or addicted).
 
 
There is also a lack of originality and part of that I think is due to the "guidelines." Newbs think "I need to run so and so's offsets in order to have a vip car." I would like people to think like this- "That car is sick. How can I take that idea with out stealing it and make it fit into my car?"
 
I have kept all of my past buildup threads LJC exclusive because its a smaller communitee and because there are no newbies making newbie comments. I didnt do that this time because I felt the communitee could somewhat benifit if I shared it with this forum. By that, I mean I was looking to maybe inspire someone that might have not pushed the limits with his or her car. This thing is bigger then anyone person but yet some people will never realize that

First off, VSC was started in Dec. 03. I had barely just scratched the surface on my car. I had just returned from doing my first SEMA show with Junction Produce. Originally, we didn't have a place to go. Kudo-san and I were jumping from forum to forum trying to find more people into VIP cars. I handed the keys off to a good friend and I disappeared to put my life together cause VSC was just figment of my imagination. During that time, a lot of the original members were not happy with the influx of new members coming in and "ruining" VSC. I was still "gone" and so my original staff of admins and mods left and took their valuable information with them. VSC was pretty much dead once again. Thats when our current staff took over. I enlisted the help of Mdenoga and he took it upon himself to bring VSC back. I cannot thank him and my current staff what he has done. We went from a server that cost me 8 dollars to needing a dedicated server to handle the load that VSC was creating. That was when I made the decision to FINALLY accept sponsors for the forums. Something I DIDN'T WANT TO DO FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE FORUM. No way I was able to afford the costs of running a dedicated server and the cost of living. It was a decision that tore me up on the inside. I knew, from that day, it was going to be tough to be the VSC I always wanted it to be... I do not profit ONE dollar on VSC. Not one dollar goes into my pocket that comes from our vendor sponsors. Ask any of them, its damn cheap compared to what other online forums ask. All I ask, is that the server costs / fees are covered. I don't go out looking for more vendors. I don't have a marketing team that looks for more ways to generate more money. I just want to keep the bills paid to keep this place running. I am still learning on how to keep everyone happy... My vendors, my staff, and the members. I've made a few bad decisions this year in regards to VSC. I am learning to re-acclimate myself back into the swing of things as a member of VSC and as owner. I should not have allowed one of my staff members to become a forum sponsor. I didn't know it would anger the rest of my forum sponsors with threats of them leaving. I do apologize to all parties involved. I had to go between really good personal friends, my staff, and my forum sponsors. That put me in such a spot that I thought I wouldn't get out of. I apologize once again to everyone involved. I learned, and now, things are in place to ensure it won't happen again.
 
I have offers almost on a weekly basis to sell VSC to them. I always say no and that it is not for sale. I am getting the hint now. I guess people want me off VSC and so the forum can go in a different direction. 
 
On to my staff. Its not a secret that I work for a nice little computer company named Apple Inc. Its a very DEMANDING company to work for. I'm surprised sometimes, I am still sane and still standing. My current staff is a godsend. These guys are great. All volunteer, all love. Can't beat that. I'd pay them if I could. Maybe I should raise the advertising rates so we could? Only if these guys revolt... (please don't, we aren't ready... hahaha) These guys are the lifeline of keeping this place together. We are so busy trying to kill the drama that goes on these forums... I told them, whatever we need to do to keep the peace. Thats all. I hate having that motto, but I just don't want any public spats on the forums. That should be kept private, cause it is not VSC's thing. We are a peaceful group...
 
RaCinStylez said it perfectly. That was the EXACT reason why VSC was started by myself. It was there to educate people. No one had a true grasp of what VIP Cars were back then. Even myself, hence the reason I created VSC. I needed to find a place where we can all get together and compile our knowledge. RaCinStylez, thank you for the inspiration to myself. Seeing your post is what moved me.
 
Now my choice of the name............ VIP Style Cars.... it was a take on VIP Style magazine. This is what we were, a Style. A style of modifications to our cars. It was much more broad than just VIP Cars. It stuck to me, and also.... haha at the time, one of the ONLY URLs available that had VIP and CAR in it hahaha.
 
Now to the future of VSC... There were a lot of things mentioned in this thread that I will take back to the lab and start brewing. I do not want to lose valuable members and at the same time, I do not want to turn away someone who is interested in what we have to share. so basically we dont want the VIP scene/crowd turning into what the honda crowd has become, ie. with rota parts and all that with everyone thinking their car is the shit with i/h/e. and everyone running around with fusa's and some eurolines and thinking their ride is "m@d tyt3 VIP"

John if it weren't for you, we wouldn't have this site. So thank you so much. The day you sell this forum is the day I'm leaving. The site was built to educate not to bitch, not to be eiitists, but more to be a community. This forum is about connecting with others and making new friends. But its funny how when one attends a meet how people react to new comers like they're outsiders. The Norcal vsc guys we have our differences compared to other areas but I feel like we're close friends or family. This is how it should be. We need to work together. 

Not to point any names but it bothered me when I was on another forum trying to update members on the status of vsc forum and the member who used to be a vsc regular decided to interject and make a claim that I was just using the thread post to promote vipstylecars.com and not keeping members updated. It pissed me off. These are the type of people who stall our culture from growing. As I have said before, quit bitching and work with each other. Enemies or not, you both will benefit. If you choose to be a bitch about, then you don't belong on this forum. Successful organizations are one that communicate and work with each other.

While this forum does educate people on what constitutes a car to be considered "VIP" or not, I think too many people imitate others for the sake of having an "accepted VIP vehicle." I think too many individuals hold a "checklist" of things that must be done in order to be classified as being VIP. I wish I saw a little more originality and distinction on this board instead of the same clichéd applications seen over again.

The one thing I truly embrace from the minitrucking/lowriding world is the great lengths these members go to in order to have a truly unique vehicle. I get a little tired of seeing the same thing done over and over again here, and people posting a picture of a car and saying I want to make my car look like this or that. 

A great example of this is that thread I made about why more people are not running hydraulics. It just amazed me at how many people quickly detetst this other form of adjustable suspension as heinous. It seems as though individuals are brainwashed into believing that air bag suspension (or coilovers) is the only way to go in the VIP scene. I really do believe that hydraulic suspension will have its day in the VIP scene, and I really wish more people would be willing to try it, and stand out a little bit from the crowd.

All in all, I just wish there were a few more people (such as widebody_Q) who really made an effort to stand out from the rest, instead of emulating the same styles seen over and over again. I know the OGs will just say this is the way it's done and that's that, but I really feel that the scene could evolve into a colorful spectrum of different styles and perspectives. Peace.

Well said Mike. I know I took some heat on that incident too, and I'm sorry that had to happen, I got defensive when they started getting mad at me for saying that 'vsc is my home'. Aside from all that, we all need to stick together, as much as we are a community, and have differences, we all have one real common relation, and that's this forum. If it weren't for this forum, we'd not know as much as we do, just as some say they 'did fine without it'.
 
So...who's gonna talk to Oscar and tell him to get back here and start helpin out! He's an inspiration to people here too.

thank you john, Im glad at least you appreciate the staff here.  I know I speak for all of us when I say I wouldnt accept a dollar of your money for doing this job.  Being involved in the community is enough for me.

and to all the members we lost I say good riddance, they are quitters in my book.  I understand it gets hard sometimes but patience is a virtue and some members take it upon themselves to educate others and that gets passed along and I truly appreciate that.  thats how this community grows in a postitive way.  Shit I started the same way all bright eyed and bushy tailed and a few people were kind enough to point me at a couple threads and the search button and so I learned.  I try to pass on whatever info I can and do my job to the best of my ability and If some cant see that its fine by me.  The statement "when you do something right, it should be as if you've done nothing at all" rings very true to me as a mod.

Yes the mark of a nob is to throw the term vip around like feathers at a sorority pillow fight but werent we all like that at one point? after awhile we realize its really all about just building a nice car that you enjoy and sharing that joy with others.  dont push your opinion of what vipstyle is old or new, let them research and come up with thier own idea, its all relative anyway haha.

Brotha the only thing we worry about here is stance and fitment.  imo everything else is just icing on the cake.

Even this brings up some questions. As a man who likes tuck over flushness, why would tuck not emulate VIP? It seems to me one has to choose one over the other.

Tuck is showing up more and more in the VIP mags and picture threads/sites. Since we reference that, (mostly)  it's all in your preference nowadays. 
 
That said, Tuck usually happens with full faced wheels, not meant to have a lot of lip. So, if you are flaunting a lot of lip, yet you throw on a super wide pulled fender, it's just not going to look right, and will be looked at as a fail. 
Usually the guys who are tuckin have also radiused the fenders, or are so dumped that the wheels are swallowed up by the fenders.

I'm going to say a few things here that I see as problems.

!.  The staff members mainly take care of the forums..they could have ZERO vip knowledge and still be able to do their job (the car talk is silly, especially coming from a guy who's car isn't much different than my own at this point in time and in fact our other car is past that).  Bashing any of them like that just displays ignorance.  I know you aren't that vain or naive Rich.  I think you have outside influences helping to drive your points.  You're above that, I know you are...

2.  People trying to purely profit off the market need to GTFO...seriously, it does nothing but hurt our main goal.  If you're in this for anything other than love and enthusiasm...maybe you should reconsider why you're here.  Now this doesn't go for people like Freddie...he and I both know there's [B]not[/B] tons of money to be made in this..especially with people being so cheap and using cheap products and knock offs.  People like him help keep things moving.  He's not the only one..I just used him as a fine example of doing it the right way.

3.  Thinking with the blinders on just kills us...I don't let any of that talk effect me.  Look at my cars..I don't need to have a Q45 or an LS to be vip.  That's the easy way out in my opinion..UNLESS you take it to another level and really make it your own like some of the members that don't need their names mentioned another thousand times..haha, but they have upped the anty..raised the bar.  Things change people..this isn't Japan, but we can do our best to preserve their culture and their style.  So please..stop with the ol' school platform talk..it's just silly.  If that's the case..all the guys with Fuga's need to go trade them in on a old ass "platform car".  Since there was no Fuga back then...see my point?  It's silly.  Do I think other cars should be "allowed" or "accepted"? Yes..but only to a point.  Guidelines for what is acceptable I do believe in.  But here in the US, we need a buffer zone since we're limited on cars to choose from.  But lets keep true towhat the type/style of the base cars is.  I think you know what I mean.  And OCKalsse, you know we're on the same page.

4.  Newbs...you're new.  Just sit back, relax and take everything in.  Read up a little, cruise the forums, do some searches.  We can tell if you've done your homework or not.  Make it easier on yourself and us by taking time to learn how to do things right and understanding the culture as a whole.  You'll be surprised how much effect that will have on becoming a regular member in a shorter time.

5.  If you're an OG member..help people..make worthwhile posts (not two words or one liners).  Just because you built a nice car doesn't make you exempt from assisting others and spreading your knowledge..on that same token...newbs and others, learn to measure your wheel fitment, there are no magic numbers and every car will be different.  A little studying goes a long way, avoid the easy way out and do it yourself.

I am every day learning new things, I find more of my knowledge in other types of car building and seeing how I can apply them to vip and driving things forward, taking things to a new level, providing more options, etc.  There's several of us doing this and I notice more people heading in that direction as well.  I'm not a know it all, I'm not any self proclaimed anything..well, maybe student...since I feel there isn't one person on earth that I think I can't learn something from.  Misconceptions are a bitch, so judge people for what you actually know...the facts, not the fiction.

yea and youve chosen tuck, it doesnt make your car any less cool than any other totally dumped car on here.  Your doing your thing and I respect that.  Dont worry if its vip or not and just know its sick as hell. :biggthumpup:

The staff members mainly take care of the forums..they could have ZERO vip knowledge and still be able to do their job (the car talk is silly, especially coming from a guy who's car isn't much different than my own at this point in time and in fact our other car is past that). Bashing any of them like that just displays ignorance. I know you aren't that vain or naive Rich. I think you have outside influences helping to drive your points. You're above that, I know you are...
 
2. People trying to purely profit off the market need to GTFO...seriously, it does nothing but hurt our main goal. If you're in this for anything other than love and enthusiasm...maybe you should reconsider why you're here. Now this doesn't go for people like Freddie...he and I both know there's [B]not[/B] tons of money to be made in this..especially with people being so cheap and using cheap products and knock offs. People like him help keep things moving. He's not the only one..I just used him as a fine example of doing it the right way.
 
3. Thinking with the blinders on just kills us...I don't let any of that talk effect me. Look at my cars..I don't need to have a Q45 or an LS to be vip. That's the easy way out in my opinion..UNLESS you take it to another level and really make it your own like some of the members that don't need their names mentioned another thousand times..haha, but they have upped the anty..raised the bar. Things change people..this isn't Japan, but we can do our best to preserve their culture and their style. So please..stop with the ol' school platform talk..it's just silly. If that's the case..all the guys with Fuga's need to go trade them in on a old ass "platform car". Since there was no Fuga back then...see my point? It's silly. Do I think other cars should be "allowed" or "accepted"? Yes..but only to a point. Guidelines for what is acceptable I do believe in. But here in the US, we need a buffer zone since we're limited on cars to choose from. But lets keep true towhat the type/style of the base cars is. I think you know what I mean. And OCKalsse, you know we're on the same page.
 
4. Newbs...you're new. Just sit back, relax and take everything in. Read up a little, cruise the forums, do some searches. We can tell if you've done your homework or not. Make it easier on yourself and us by taking time to learn how to do things right and understanding the culture as a whole. You'll be surprised how much effect that will have on becoming a regular member in a shorter time.
 
5. If you're an OG member..help people..make worthwhile posts (not two words or one liners). Just because you built a nice car doesn't make you exempt from assisting others and spreading your knowledge..on that same token...newbs and others, learn to measure your wheel fitment, there are no magic numbers and every car will be different. A little studying goes a long way, avoid the easy way out and do it yourself.
 
I am every day learning new things, I find more of my knowledge in other types of car building and seeing how I can apply them to vip and driving things forward, taking things to a new level, providing more options, etc. There's several of us doing this and I notice more people heading in that direction as well. I'm not a know it all, I'm not any self proclaimed anything..well, maybe student...since I feel there isn't one person on earth that I think I can't learn something from. Misconceptions are a bitch, so judge people for what you actually know...the facts, not the fiction.

John-  I want to thank you for your effort in putting together this forum.  Like any forum, there is always going to be growing pains.  Its how you handle the growing pains that make a forum go from good to great.  Your long response was appreciated and well thought out.  I owe a lot to this forum for the way my car looks today.

the style changes as the necessity for change grows. ive seen pictures of SO many 'non platform' cars vip-styled in japan. i know others have seen them too, because the pictures are all over this forum. its mind boggling how some people want to push noobs away because it doesnt fit their description of vip. take a look at the 'non platform' cars in japan. theyre just as modded as the 'platform' cars, with some even wilder. they deserve just as much respect and appreciation as the others IMO. as long as the car fits the general guidelines, we should embrace their originality, not shun it. these people build their cars for themselves. the cars reflect their personalities and style, NOT what some schmuck says on an internet forum.

When too many people jump on here, and are trying to hop onto the next 'trend', and are trying to build their car this way and call it 'vip', it's like John said, it's going to become the next JDM. 

People bitch about not wanting something like that to happen. When others try to keep it within even REASONABLE guidelines, like the main thing is a big body sedan, people start bitching about eliteness, and it's 'vip style' cars, not 'vip cars' and all that crap. 

Put that way, it's not even the 'elite' guys that are doing the bitching, it's the ones who don't have the big bodied sedans, who are doing the bitching.


We don't try to keep it strictly lexus/infiniti here. 

There's a couple of people with 300c's, there are sentias, there are some k-cars/wagons/vans, how can everybody talk about how we don't accept stuff that's not normal? We DO. People (some) don't accept 240's because really, they aren't it. Too small (hence not big bodied) and not a k-car. They've got a different following. Just because supermade made a big expensive kit that people HERE consider vip, doesn't mean it's now instantly a vip styled car because of the kit. 
IIRC, supermade still only makes stuff for 240's....drift cars....

I remember when all people used to talk about was stance. Fitment this fitment that. Here on this site.

NOW people think that if you've got the stance correct, you've got a VIP car. 

Wheels don't make the car vip. The car build will make itself vip. 

Look at that magazine with RJ on the cover, with the purple q45. Talking about 'how to budget build a vip car' or whatever. 

Shitty paint, shitty kit, shitty wheels. NOT VIP. It was even a platform!!!!! So don't think we bitch about stuff like platforms, people without the right type of car (not platform, just type of car) bitch about how we tell them it's not even the right type of car, which is TRUE. 

You can't take anything and make it vip. You can't take anything and make it a drift car. You can't take anything and make it a honda street racer car. 

This ain't Fast N Furious, your car can't fly, can't do the 1/4 in 10 seconds and can't slam the shit outta the bumper and not break. 

Get to reality, and walk your talk. Get cracking on some suggestions. Don't tell people anything can be a vip car with the right wheels and a drop. That ain't the truth. Selling people dreams thinking they'll be something they aren't won't help in the long run. 

New people think that anything can be vip. Kindly educate them ( DON'T BITCH) about what VIP style is about. If they really think they'll pull it off with whatever car they have, and won't listen to a few suggestions/guidelines, send them on their way to the 'other cars' forum. They can build their 'vip styled car' there. 

 That's what it's here for. Anybody without a 4door big body (luxury) sedan, or a Van/k-car/wagon, goes into the other cars forum. That's where there car belongs.

I agree with some of your viewpoints, but I think you may have a taken a differant direction with others.   Lets start with the noobs of this board.  Its very simple to use the search button located at the top of the forum.  If those people wanted to learn, they would know to you the search button to find the information they seek.  The noobs that do take the time to search and research are not the ones we are talking about.  We are talking about the lazy ass people that ask tons of repetative questions that have been answered in who knows how many threads.  The information they want is here on the site, all it takes is to use the search function.  A lot of these new members dont have VIP platforms, but that doesnt mean we dont want them on the site.  When I joined, me and you both had SCs man.  We didnt even know anyone with a VIP car.  We were here to learn about the styling, and we werent lazy asses that kept PMing everyone now did we?  We found the information from threads, and posting contributing questions that are smart and worth asking.  Now lets take it to the styling.  I agree that its hard to have a vip platform in the US, but that doesnt mean you can make a civic vip.  The guidlines are pretty simple. ( a rear wheel drive 4 door LUXURY sedan)  Now that sums it up perfectly.  You cant make a 240 VIP, you cant make a civic VIP...they will never be VIP.  But they can influence their car through VIP with stance and wheel fitment.  I cant speak for the rest of us, but I am not dictating what should and shouldnt be allowed on this forum.  We are mearly stating that people who think that they can buy ANY car and make it VIP are not in the right mind set.  It takes a certain type of car + stance/fitment to make a car VIP.

It's hard for me to believe that it's been almost three years since I first stumbled across this website. I was fourteen years old, digging through Google search results in an attempt to find custom parts for a beautiful white Lexus LS400 that had found its way into my driveway. By late 2005, I was fully immersed in the Spocom/JDM/Drift scene and dissapointed at the fact that I had inherited a big, luxurious whale instead of a stripped, SR-swapped 240SX with graphics and a Vertex Ridge body kit. My desire to obtain modifications for the Lexus was driven out of desperation, a desire to personalize the vehicle that I was destined to operate once I reached the legal driving age.

Expectations were low when I clicked on the link to VSC version 1.0. As I waited for my DSL connection to download the Main Menu (lol @ old internet technology), I sat in awe as John's GS stared me down. It took a moment for me to process what was sitting on the screen because I had never before seen such a simply elegant car in my world of flashy AE86s, Silvias and Cedrics. There were no decals, no flame-belching exhausts or annihlated road cones scattered on the tarmac. This Lexus represented something different. It had a certain sense of dignity, of class and distinction. To this very day, I can remember thinking to myself that this quiet, motionless vehicle was far more attractive than any radical driftcar leaving a thick trail of smoke in its wake.

Slowly, hesitantly, I pulled myself from the abyss of all-things-JDM and began learning the ways of a proper VIP lifestyle. Nearly three years later, I feel that I have come away with an automotive education that could never be tought by some professor at UTI Tech.

And there are people I have to thank for this. John, Brandon, V8_Aristo, uncle_el, YakSoarer, 137, firelizard, oneton and many others, I cannot thank you all enough for taking the time to drop some knowledge on a snot-nosed eighth grader poking around on an online forum. As for those who have left VSC, I would hope that bridges could be mended due to the fact that I firmly believe we are all bound by a devout love of this culture, a commitment that transcends bad vendor deals or hard feelings between members.

I'm not sure where I'd be today without this website. Maybe I would be fitting new Rotas onto an 89 Civic hatchback, or sliding around in some grocery store parking lot in a ragged S13. All I know is that since December of 2005 I have fostered a deep love for all things VIP.

I've never loved any car like my Lexus LS400.

I know my post count is low, but I wouldn't classify myself as a n00b, i don't think:shrug:. I've been here since...hell, back when it started LOL! Always the same name but the server crashed out a couple times and I had to re-up.

Anyway, all of you guys make excellent points. 

On another forum I'm on, some guy had this car that he threw a runof the mill kit on it, some bad fitting wheels with tall tires and proceeded to call his car "Soon to be VIP" 


I told him his car wasn't VIP and wasn't soon to be VIP...and I tried to convey what needed to be done to his car, especially with it being a big body, but not one of the  older accepted cars. I also linked him here and told him to READ all the stickies in the VIP101 section to get a better grasp on what is VIP.

I got called everything but a child of God because i was hating on his car and blah blah. I was trying to completely clear up what is VIP and what's not. I hate to see people say "Ohh my car is VIP" and they've got some raggedy Toyota Camry or Nissan Sentra with some lips on the wheels. That's not VIP, I'd love for people to learn what it is to be VIP and what a VIPcar is, but it just takes time. The forum is going through a growth right now...growing pains sometimes leave scars. Guys get butt hurt, it's just time to rebuild and pick up the pieces from there.

That said, I do think the management is doing a great job of keeping this place in order. I can see how it can get annoying being a member with an Admirable car and people want to talk to you directly. Seriously, even though it's annoying guys, take that for what it is. Someone values your opinion even if it's just some joe blow internet goober. That's probably the biggest compliment they can give you aside from sucking your butt cheeks telling you your car is "gawd". 

Draft up a cookie cutter response letter and any time someone asks questions just forward that response letter (especially including any links that you think they should read)

Well, I agree with most of what everyone is saying, with all due respect I feel compelled to add my 2 cents. I'm a not a OG member on this forum nor am I a noob to the VIP scene for that matter, I consider myself as an enthusiast. 

We all started as noobs at one point and of course now with the growth of VIP, OG people would like to keep everything old school because that is what they know (which is not a bad thing), but I think people have to remember how VIP, or any type of scene started for that matter, with people just trying new things on their cars. 
I think we should have a more open mind to the noobs and what people now are trying to do. 
Yes they can be trying and yes they need to learn on their own by reading and doing research like we all did. 
But I think we, as people more knowledgeable in the subject, should try to steer them in the right direction instead of shutting them out.

Also being that the site is named VIP[B]STYLE[/B]cars.com, most people when first seeing or hearing about this site should not be held at fault for automatically assuming that this site doesn’t only cater to true VIP platforms cars but also to everything that has a similar style. 
With that said I basically state to people I talk to when explaining VIP that there is a new upcoming segment I like to refer to as US VIP. 
I see it as a growth of the core base that we all know and love but it evolving into something that will fit our(as in the US) car market and taste. 
It's evolution in my eyes and even though I don’t now agree with 90% of what they are trying to do I see it as a start.

It’s the whole trial and error thing.

I’ve been around the start of Drifting and the whole JDM Honda scene from like 87/89 in Hawaii and have watched it progress to what it is today.  
I hope the same thing happens to VIP because I see it as an opportunity to get more innovative ideas out there and see what people can come up with. 
But the difference between VIP and the whole JDM/HONDA/DRIFTING fads that work out for us is that our modifications and cars cost a lot more than the market that they are used to paying.

There is also an image that our cars have that reflect styling of Power, Wealth, Respect, Money and so on. 
So you hopefully won’t to see too many people out there with a zip tied on ebay special kit on 16’s going around and saying that they are OG VIP. 
One thing I love about this industry is when people ask me “I want to be VIP but I only have $200 for a $800 part could you hook me up” I can say, “well if you don’t have the cash , you don’t deserve to be VIP” . 
And I think if we uphold this type of attitude (in a respectable way) while holding bigger meets and having a better range of quality products we can keep the core values of VIP and watch it grow into something that we can all be proud of without  it turning into a Type R fad.

Before I started to build my first VIP car I researched for over 2 years just reading and trying to soak up as much information this forum and others like it had to offer.  

And I thank all of you for it! 

I think that we should never lose sight of the fact we have all been there at one point or another and try to help this community grow and be everything that we all hope it can be.
 
As for the site, yeah it could be better but I call these types of problems, growing pains that will just work itself out in time. 
You just got to keep patient and give it love.

well just this thread alone has shown how vsc has evolved. It has gone 6+ pages and not been closed down yet. And all it is is opinions and debates..I feel vsc will come around again.

IIRC, supermade still only makes stuff for 240's....drift cars....

I remember when all people used to talk about was stance. Fitment this fitment that. Here on this site.

Wheels don't make the car vip. The car build will make itself vip.

Shitty paint, shitty kit, shitty wheels. NOT VIP. It was even a platform!!!!! So don't think we bitch about stuff like platforms, people without the right type of car (not platform, just type of car) bitch about how we tell them it's not even the right type of car, which is TRUE. 

You can't take anything and make it vip. You can't take anything and make it a drift car. You can't take anything and make it a honda street racer car. 

This ain't Fast N Furious, your car can't fly, can't do the 1/4 in 10 seconds and can't slam the shit outta the bumper and not break. 

Get to reality, and walk your talk. Get cracking on some suggestions. Don't tell people anything can be a vip car with the right wheels and a drop. That ain't the truth. Selling people dreams thinking they'll be something they aren't won't help in the long run. 

New people think that anything can be vip. Kindly educate them ( DON'T BITCH) about what VIP style is about. If they really think they'll pull it off with whatever car they have, and won't listen to a few suggestions/guidelines, send them on their way to the 'other cars' forum. vip has been, and always will be, changing. i still consider myself new to the style but just by looking at pictures the eras are obvious. to prefer one era is cool, but to act like that was the only "true vip" is ignorant. i've seen so many changes in my 1+year its ridiculous.
 
i put a lot of this on our (u.s. enthusiasts) insistence on [I]following[/I] the japanese. yeah thats where the style comes from and yeah they are still way ahead of us but waiting for them to do something before we accept it will always leave us following. we have a huge car culture and plenty of things to bring to the table.

then you have styling cues. when i look at the wild style old schools they just look absurd, but thats what it was. then theres the gaudy mid-period that i refer to as "traditional vip" just because of when i cam into it. look around... crazy wood, crystals, and curtains are becoming fewer and fewer. then theres the modern vip look which has taken a much more aggressive, almost sporty styling due to the look of late model cars. what worked at one time isn't always going to hold true. you can stick to your era but don't get mad when the rest of the world moves on.
 
now with all these things constantly changing and the mainstream appeal being inevitable, we're at a point where theres a rush of uninformed ppl and so much conflicting information. how can you be mad at them? just because it was so cut and dry when you showed up doesn't mean it is now. in fact the ppl trying to hold on to the "once upon a time" views are causing a lot of the confusion that newcomers are experiencing. there are those who are staying in tune with the current happenings, trying to stay true to the roots and not lose the tradition, yet still pushing forward and try to think outside the box and stay open to new things. then there are those who feel that they were part of a golden era and want things to be that way forever. guess what? the world is moving on without you. reciting stale information [I]is[/I] the problem. 
 
does that mean abandon the past? no. what it means is to understand the past, live in the present, and keep your mind open to the future.
 
personally i didn't like the vip101 idea. i felt like a lot of good information was shared by the dumb questions asked by newcomers in the general public. maybe the question was dumb. maybe they got flamed. but eventually someone always chimed in with a proper answer which often sparked good conversation. i felt like pooling together a bunch of people who didn't know much yet was unproductive. now i realize it was done mostly to protect the members who feel like newbies were ruining the site. guess what? those guys are still b***hin, yet rarely do i see them in 101 really trying to guide anyone on the right path.
 
i love this site, but if there is one thing i agree on with those on the other side of the fence about its that the censorship/separation is hurting the site. i've been in many heated debates and learned lots because of it. if not because of what someone else was arguing then because it provoked me to prove my point (research time).
 
john i would like to thank you for the site (since this seems like the time and place to do it while you are doubting yourself), and mods you do a great job of keeping the peace (whether or not thats what we need). i will volunteer to help you guys out in any way possible,just let me know what you need.

What my concern is that more and more and more people with 240's and other driftcars are coming on here wanting respect for there cars and trying to flood this site and rob it from what it REALLY is. 
 
When I say respect I do not mean as they dont deserve respect as a human beeing but more or less like oh because my 240 was on point I WILL build a badd ass VIP car....thats the respect I will not provide untill I see something..actions speak louder than words in my book and allways will.
 
At first with you I was like WTF does this dude think he is with a Maxima...we had our battles and good ones at that. BUT I learned to respect you more as a person because I know that you are here to stay and from what it looks like going to do what it takes to turn that maxima into a VIP styled car..looks like a lot of time and effort is going into your build..

How many of you visit non VIP forums and post pics of your vip car and try to get props and respect?? How many of you are on DUB sites...4x4 sites....Donk Sites and so on trying to convicce folks that your shit is DOnk..4x4 Dub and so on...I bet not many if   not any of you do..

Look at me I just got a Ford expedition EL...did not hesistate about posting a thread about it because I feel that I am established here enough to share with you all AND I am not about trying to VIP that shiat out...keeping it real with who I am and what I want to do with it..Will I put curtains fusa neckpads or any other VIP styling Q's into it HELL NO why because it does not fit in the category of a VIP car...the most I will do and I do with all my vehicles is add a shit load of wood grain..because that is not just for VIP style..
 
I think 101 was excellent idea..it helped prevent a lot of bashing and heated arguments..
For a while there all you heard was is this VIP is that VIP can I be VIP..SHiat gets old..how many times do you have to say NO for people to get the hint ..NO means NO.

As far as the 101 area..it will stay and continue to grow as we grow with it.  It has it's place and it has it's purpose.  In time it will become an invaluable tool in the growth of new enthusiasts.  It may not be smooth as butter just yet, but give it time..and give us time to iron out the wrinkles and give it some creases.  So please try to work with us and not against us people..this takes all of our efforts, not just the staff.  I expect all of you to assist us..this is all of our forums, so do your part in helping out and together we CAN make it everything we want it to be.  Copping out or giving up only hurts things..so please try to help whenever you can in the 101 area.  And be courteous and polite.  It's okay to be blunt with the facts..but be SURE they are facts and not just your own hearsay.  :thelaw:

I think there is a place and time for everything. IF this site is a VIP fourm that let it be...thats why their are many many forums out there to cater to specific needs.
 
I dont mind looking at other builds but at the same time when I am on VSC I prefer to see VIP builds..
 
What people are capable is one thing..building a vip car is way different than lots of those other styles.
 
for one your taking a car that is functional making it almost non functional in many aspects..so those folks are going to have to re learn car modding to a certain point..IF any one thinks that VIP cars are funtional....NOT....everything about VIP is for looks...
 
drifter will have a hard time at first because they will see it as to why this and why that...
 
there is a time and place for everything and when I am in vipstylescars.com I look forward to vip car builds not what someone has done in the past..that means really nothing all it means is look at my old car...so what about your vip car...

has as little to do with vip style as the r32/z32 on a g50 suspension thread. old school sedan using readily available parts off a sports car.

now doint a suspension swap to make your car lower or beucase parts are not available  than yeah by all means but from the few years I have been around there has only been one guy who pulled it off..and that was Grant...why I dunno there were plenty of options for his car...

What about Damicci? Did the same thing. A norcal user David, is in the process of doing the same thing. All these guys are using or planning on using z32 suspension to lower their G50's. What's wrong with that? Why get jacked on suspension parts that are hard to come by when you can use substitutions that are equal? It's not like it's a knockoff suspension, and it's not going to be some janky custom work that will break apart after awhile.

Threads like this go somewhere, because it provides information for other people to know what suspension components are compatible for their cars.

man i've been reading this thread for the last hour, and i know i'm a noob relative to this forum and to the scene in general, but i personally have taken the time to read whatever i can on these forums just to expand my knowledge, from suspension to bodywork to interior. i just have to put in my .02 from the perspective of someone who is just trying to fully grasp vip.

i think alot of the confusion with vip is there is no 100% set definition to what VIP has evolved into as of the last few years with more and more mainstream coverage and misunderstanding on the part of those covering it. alot of people come on thinking they have a luxury car and some 18 -19s in +45 that they are automatically VIP, due to misuse of the term "VIP". and alot of the noobs aren't willing to take the time to fully understand the implications of this style, they don't really know what it is and think their definition is the correct one. Hell alot of people have been seeing more and more KCar and wagonista type cars and think they fall directly under the umbrella term "VIP". 

with more and more exposure to VIP style, it's turning into more and more into a trend and a fad for everyone to follow. it seems like it's the new hot thing and like vipstylecars said, it's becoming more and more like jdm with everyone throwing on rotas and an ebay lip kit and calling it "jdm". i remember the days when, in houston at least, JDM was very much considered a gimmick and now everyone and their momma has a jdm whip just cuz they have honda civic that's not 100% factory.

i think it's a compliment of sorts that everyone is looking to the og's and wanting to come to this style and replicate it, but in the car industry, especially when it comes to modding you, i think those who truly excel at what they do and do it for themselves will stay true to the form and create an exceptionally great piece of art with their car. The style has come a long way and this past year has been huge for vip in the states.

The Houston guys made a huge impact. Refined Elegance is still small in numbers but with stars like that, the bench dont matter. 
 
The SoCal guys are cleaning up their rides and growing in numbers. Might be the heart of it all 
 
Hawaii is still one of the top places to be states side in reguards to vip. Cant forget the Norcal guys.

First, i want to say to John, you are doing a great job. Don't let anyone tell you that you anything other than that. With a family to take care of and a demanding job, you still find a way to be apart of the community. That to me is commitment and shows great love for what you have created. You are the founding father of this forum, so your vision of where this forum should be heading should be highly respected. The day that you decide to call it quits here, is the day that i will SERIOUSLY consider leaving for good. I'm sure that's how it is for a lot of people. Unfortunately, there are some people that don't see eye to eye of where this forum should be heading but you are the owner and operator, so you should make the last judgment call and you calling is quits should definitely NOT be one of them.
 
I really think everyone needs to just chill out here. I never knew that we were a community of enthusiasts that like to "weed" out other members that don't see what we see as VIP or don't drive traditional VIP platforms. Seriously! At the end of the day, does anyone here lose sleep because so and so does not drive a traditional vip platform car??? I'm 110% sure, i don't.  I'm speaking the truth here, i can give a rat's ass if you are driving a Maxima or an All out VIP LS430. If you are here to learn about "our" love of VIP, you will eventually understand what the veterans of this site are talking about. 
 
Its a give and take situation to me. I read threads about people getting excited that we as the VIP community are getting more coverage! More magazines and more show organizers are taking notice of our style! So what do we really want?? Do we want VIP to grow and reach the masses? or do we want to have this specialized secret society forum that only people with same mindset about what is VIP can be apart of. With notoriety comes new followers and fans, newbs come with the territory. It is our job, the ones with a little more knowledge than them to educate and steer them into what we know as VIP. 
 
I totally agree with what widebody_Q said. Take the good instead of the bad!

By taking this quote from John and my conversation this is what we dont want!  Its not about being a platform or not.  It never was about that if you guys read back to what I was saying its about how we all use to take pride in what VIP was for us.... 
Do you guys remember the skyline they published in superstreet and called it VIP because it has deep lip wheels?  
I still hate when people throw around the VIP name...Just like how everything is JDM right?  JDM this JDM that...It killed the honda scene quick because why?  Ur not JDM!  I hope that VIP doesnt become that.  Its about taking pride in our scene and making it grow but in a right way not the JDM HONDA way.

I think people should want to learn what VIP is about instead of being KING VIP.  We all here to learn from everyone and thats what makes it better.  I mean didnt we all just go from thread to thread trying to grasp the concept of what VIP is?  Im sure we didnt all grow up and say "OH IM VIP"... 


I can see that there is more and more coming out of each member and the way that things get all twisted from post to post is crazy.  Maybe its how each of you are feeling..I dunno.  I just think that if we let it become the way the word JDM was used in the honda scene I think VIP will die out quick... That's probably why so many people are up in arms about VIP and where it seems to be headed. It's a fight to keep VIP pure with out all the fanboyness and loosely used terms and labels. It's not any body's fault, just due to incorrect information and lack of education. VIP doesn't have to be about platforms cars 100% of the time. But you get the people who just want to use what they got and force change when it's still too early to try to redefine VIP in the US. I honestly don't even know why this argument keeps coming up on here. I figure majority of the people arguing right now should be on the same page for the most part.

I agree not everything can be VIP, and then you have sidestepping in Japan which only confuses anyone trying to follow them. Which is why Black was saying all that good stuff about "followers." Without the ability to think for ourselves, we risk falling into this pogo effect of people coming and leaving...people wanting others to be different then getting bashed for being different. the Community growing then shrinking...over and over again.

I agree 100% with BlackonBlack from the other thread. We need to not try to set rules, but keep up with the ideals. Thinkg for ourselves...The main goal is for us to keep the Big Cars sittin low and tilting stretched tires.

That is another big misconception. You have to have stretched tires to be VIP. Like I said there is just so much bad info going out. And with no real Guidelines or rule there really isn't a way to defend it. I hate name dropping to defend a "styling concept". How do you teach and educate with out references or some evidence.

When we try to step in and speak the truth we get told that things are changing and  we need to educate.. But I tell you what...when we try to educate,  people get pissed and complaine and take offense because they are not fitting into the specific catergory they want to be apart of.
 
WE loose folks becuase how can you teach the unteachable???? Folks get fed up and take a break or bounce..and it is said that they are not here to truly help the community or culture of VIP...thats BS...lots of folks have tried to help but then again lots of folks just dont want to listen or pick and choose what they want to hear...

Rich...when I asked you to relax, I wasn't being a prick or trying to act like a father figure.  I was just trying to diffuse this whole situation.  I understand you have some inner turmoil right now..we all get it from time to time.  Yes, I do handle things differently than I have in the past..I just realized that there's no big deal.  I mean, I really should have known better long ago..but hey, we're only human.  I'm still the same blunt guy, but I just chose not to get upset anymore.  There's no need to..some people just won't see the bad in themselves and we just have to accept that.  I chose to change those parts of me..for longevity if anything.  I'm normally a very happy go lucky guy in person..the internet was sort of bringing that down and tearing part of me away..not healthy.  I chose to combat that, turn over a new leaf so to speak, and I feel good about it.  Did it change my views or opinions?  No, but it just put me at peace.  I don't want to be one of the guys that brings down the community..and I felt that may be where I was headed. Now if you go through my posts do you really see me posting right after blackonblack...there are lots of posts that he has that I see and just ignore them..trying to keep a good posture and not to say things that I think he may take direct offense at however no matter what I say he does and then retaliates. In order to get the "tsuraichi" fitment that some people go for, it's kind of a prerequisite. However, you're right, it's not a defining VIP trait...That is unless you're not trying to get a "perfect" fitment....which is, for all intents and purposes, the essence of VIP...Stance and Fitment...unless I'm mistaken. It's not required if you've done your car up with as much kit as you have, Mr.Damicci, with all the quintessential VIP styling cues and wheels, but for the simpler cars, fitment is higher on the totem pole.

Stretch for the sake of Stretch does not a VIP car make. but Stretch for the sake of Tsuraichi is more verifiable when it comes to the VIP cars.

At least that's how i've seen it.:shrug:

Yes, Stretch is 'functional' in a sense. It's not a fashion statement though. You don't need it to be 'vip'.

This style is evolving, and more importantly so is this site. We the staff have chosen to end the petty, childish fighting. We will not tolerate the useless negativity that is consuimng what was once a place where an "argument" involved "where does flush stop and poke begin", or "what is the proper method for radiusing a fender to frame a wheel". Those were the days when we didn't care WHO or WHAT was VIP, we just knew and instead focused on the true issues..... the cars.
 
I never took drama class in school and I sure as hell am not going to become a part of it on here. People want to start drama.... find a stage and take it there because this is VSC, we will not allow this any longer. We are going to clean house. We are going to recapture the original essence of this site.
 
When I was made a mod, then super mod, then admin, I promised Mike D and John that I would do my best to help keep this place in shape. I've since changed my mind. I now vow that this place, through the help of the staff and myself, and the countless of true enthusiasts on here that "get it", we will return this site to the place it once was was... a place to come and learn, to come and meet, to come and belong, a place you knew there was a seat reserved for you when no one else understood why you were making your expensive ride look like that... the community we once were. I promise right here and now to John and Mike D, that the staff old and new alike, we will soon enough through hard work and determination, once again have this place become his pride, instead of his heartache.
 
If you feel me, or my message, and "get it", please, don't hesitate, help us take back what is rightfully ours and truly John's.... a great community where everyone gets along or atleast overlooks each other's faults for the sake of the community. its obvious that vip (or cars in general) is not a passion to you like it is to me. you've stated several times that it takes a back seat to your business and family and whatever else. good for you. the same can not be said for me. this is my passion, my business, and i don't have a family. its also obvious to me that you care very little about the vsc community. i honestly believe that you want it to be some cool little club where your car is your dues. not gonna happen. your mixing in with true enthusiasts who live cars. whether they drive an s14, an a32, or a ls600 they will always outshine you because this is what they do.
 
but the most important thing here is the community. me fighting with someone who's never going to learn makes me look bad an leaves me with a bad attitude. so to keep myself from falling into this ever again you have officially been ignored (i say officially because in reality the community ignored you long ago).

Avantguard I wasn't attacking you or anything, I was just trying to point a few things that cause confusion amongst admirers and aspiring VIP stylists. 

We as a community need to stop arguing over personal matters and consider what we can do to prevent VIP from being watered down. Instead feeding into personal attacks just say "I am not going to argue" or whatever and save that energy for the support of the community. This has been said many times but oh well.

This is why I posted how I feel now, and the change I've made to help better the community.  I think if we collectively choose to act accordingly we'll be on the right path.

Look I see that staff is trying hard to fix things and the forum members should respect them for it period.  John the owner has made it a point to try to bring VSC back on its feet and with the newer staff of Mods hopefully that should happen. I just noticed Firelizard is a mod now.. And allthough he is not using a tradditional platform car HE has a lot to offer this forum!!! I know I have given him shiat in the past about his build but I respect the fact that after all these years his car has come together and does not look bad at all..So congradts to Firelizard for making MOD Status...
 
Also there are side issues that need to be adressed! Personal battles between certain members that have cuased a recent ban of a Great Member and one of the first ones with the Sickest MP Y33...another OG that has put lots of info out there from the begining not this new VSC but the old VSC yes Mikey has been around and allways made many efforts to help folks out.
 
I don't know the exact issues between these members but I do think loosing them is for the worst and not the best..
 
IF you loose the ones that are responcable for building and helpeing  make VSC what it is today you loose its core of knowledge..and thats why we are seeing more and more anything goes attitude because lots of those folks who would keep newbs in line are not here..
 
DO we say the left because they did not care NO..they left because they did not want to be associated with a forum that was pushing folks in the wrong direction. 
 
You guys VSC was a nice tight fam years ago  now you all have to admit its a place to argue, a place to debate a place to unleesh your stress...I bet if lots of us folks got together in person things would be so different..we would see who is hard who is acting hard....Lots of folks may even act friendlier to each other....I am one who can admit I am not the best guy to follow because my beliefs are set in stone..VIP is different than VIP styled/Inspired..
 
Before it was fine to be labled as VIP inspired OR styled...folks did not get all twisted up about it it was just the way it was and VIP was VIP the tradditional platforms...NO beefs everyone new their place.
 
If I did not have a traddional platform car...I would not even be waisting my days here on VSC trying to convince folks that it can be a VIP car..because NO it cant it can only be Inspired/Styled...Thats were the forum has taken a turn in the wrong direction..is folks not beeing able to be labled as Insprired/Styled..They HAVE to be VIP or the highway..and I say cool then go get a tradditional plaform so you can be VIP...or accept the fact that you are inspired/styled..

Rich, we (the staff) value your opinion and others as well.  The past is just that, the past.  We're not saying to forget about it, but we are saying not to dwell on it.  I fear that's the case here and really hope that you can drop that because all it does is bring poor light on a situation we're trying to brighten.  So please, for John's sake stop bringing up the past and try to help us with the future.  I know you mean well, but it's just not coming off that way.  You say "not take OFFENSE to it but read it for what it really means...", that's hard since perception can take it in too many directions and some people may not take it the way you said it.  That's just food for thought mind you.  You make some good points Rich but others you beat like a dead horse.  I know they are your pet peeves, but remember..they are YOUR pet peeves not everyones.  Sometimes we get caught up to much in our own values system and forget that we don't all share the same ideals.  I've been guilty of this too.  I know when I'm wrong and I've made changes to make sure i don't go back down that path again.

John and Mike D made it crystal clear..if anyone belittles a staff member or causes deliberate issues with them, they will be dealt with swiftly.  Not all bans are permanent and I was not responsible for your friends situation.  It doesn't matter how long they've been here or there.  We're cleaning the issues out of these forums and haggling staff is absolutely prohibited.

After reading over the last few pages of the thread I thought I would chime in again. Robert (SiknLow) has the right idea. In the end we are all a group of enthusiasts who gather here to share our passion for this style of car modification. We need to check our drama at the door and discuss, share, and celebrate the things we enjoy. I know that some people miss the old days, the close knit family, where we could say and do what we wanted. But that kind of community isn't possible on this growing forum, the drama needs to stop. Whether driving a  Vip platform,vip styled, drifted, drag raced, towed on the back of a trailer for life car, we all have one thing in common, our love of cars. I have seen a lot of hostility of the forum towards people are not or haven't started building a platform. People saying those guys shouldn't be welcome here, but why limit the information we can gather. I say as long as you are a contributing member, you should be welcome.

In a community, as more and more people do similar things creativity becomes more and more expressive. The standards are set higher and higher. Our style in America has come a long way, these days rims a drop and a bodykit will give your car a wonderful VIP feel. But I the minor and extensive details that people to push beyond the "norm" are the cars that are really standing out. It is all about building a car for yourself. I think we all need to step back and remember that building a car is suppose to make you happy. There aren't restrictions on what you can and can't do. Sure to build a vip car there are certain guidelines to follow but that should only be the beginning of the process. Lets focus on the good, and on positive growth and check our egos at the door.

Let people call their car whatever the hell they want to. It will only make the "real" VIP cars cooler =) This VIP jargon is really getting out of hand. It's just a word. Let the car itself speak higher than its given title...

its obvious that vip (or cars in general) is not a passion to you like it is to me. you've stated several times that it takes a back seat to your business and family and whatever else. good for you. the same can not be said for me. this is my passion, my business, and i don't have a family. its also obvious to me that you care very little about the vsc community. i honestly believe that you want it to be some cool little club where your car is your dues. not gonna happen. your mixing in with true enthusiasts who live cars. whether they drive an s14, an a32, or a ls600 they will always outshine you because this is what they do.
 
but the most important thing here is the community. me fighting with someone who's never going to learn makes me look bad an leaves me with a bad attitude. so to keep myself from falling into this ever again you have officially been ignored (i say officially because in reality the community ignored you long ago).

Dennis was not long ago...well I guess it was a while back when you left a very bad taiste in VSC's mouth...yeah the Hawaii Boyz....Why were you banned??? Then changed your screen name and came back..SO now your special..YOur the same old Dennis from back then..just now there is to many newbies to know how you really are.....cuase they were not around back then..

Rich..I think he was just making light of someones copy/pasted responses at the end of his statement and he's allowed to disagree with your opinion, just as you are with his.  I have to agree with him about that car though.  The aero was nice, the wheels were nice (but it took how many sets to get it right? Not like someone who understands how to size up wheels like one who's been around long enough)..and I guess the air although everything was bolt on.  But that doesn't make it a sick car in [I]our[/I] opinion, just makes it a decent cookie cutter built for an enthusiast (just a figure of speech, no offense meant).  I said "our" since Dennis and I agree on this topic.  It was a decent car, we aren't saying it was garbage so please don't take it the wrong way.  We're just saying it doesn't command that level of respect in our opinion (say compared to racinstylez or widebodyq's cars), that's all (so don't look into it further).

He spoke the truth...saying respectful in that instance has nothing to do with the people..but the subject.  Don't get that confused Rich as it's easy to do on the internet.  Dennis got banned for exactly what you're doing right now..defending friends.  So does that mean you should be banned for doing the same?  No, I don't think so and I doubt the rest of the current staff thinks that either (although I can't speak directly for them), but really we're trying to be as fair and unbiased as possible (unlike some instances in the past that we'd like to forget so please don't keep bringing them up..move forward).  We're trying to work past all of that now and be the best staff we can be.  So I guess what I'm saying is, it would be nice if everyone could do [I]their[/I] best to help us set the changes in place for a better future here.  Dennis, Rich, both of you try to be more careful how you address one another (that actually goes for all members and yes, us staff too).  Remember things don't always come across crystal here on the web and we want this to be a "happy" place...think Happy Gilmore..haha:

No, we actually chose to keep it open since the people making complaints said that's all we ever do is lock and delete.  Which is still what I would rather do to keep things like this from occurring and stop things from escalating, but hey, can't make everyone happy.  I would like for these other people to hear your views on how negative it makes the forums look, then maybe they'd be happy with the way we prefer to do business.  I have received PM's from many of you happy with how swiftly I've handled some of these types of issues in the past, but I also received a couple messages complaining that I was not "god" and they were mad that I did what I did to keep the peace.  I always get the amendments rights threats and other sorts of complaints...but really..this IS NOT public domain.  It's John's domain..he owns it, he runs it.  The First Amendment has little to do with private forums.

None of us have first amendment rights on this forum, except John..as he sets the rules for his domain.  THAT is the law...this is the internet.
