who's on your hip hop hit list (hate list actually)

i was reading the past post about ice T and soulja boy beefing and i got to thinking about who else out there is faking the funk.... i mean, who out there has no business rapping, claiming their music is hip hop, or songs make no sense that they shouldnt even be on the air...
 
2 of my other brothers are local artists here in hawaii. one is underground hip hop, and the other is more of a mainstream type hip hop. so i grew up listening to people like mos def, blackthought/the roots, common sense, albums like soundbombing, lyricist lounge, etc... more of the ol school hip hop type shit. i was more of a fan to the black eyed peas first album cuz it was more hip hop than it is now (at least i think) now since they have blown up and made it mainstream their style has switched up and they picked up fergie.... what the hell...
 
songs from lil wayne get on my nerves, but some of the beats he got are aight. his lyrics suck ass cuz i dont really understand any of it and if i can make out anything he does say, it makes so sense.... hurricane chris can eat a fat one, soulja boy come out with a new dance every song he makes, three 6 mafia used t be good to me, but again since they made it mainstream..... 
 
i was reading a magazine that ghostface did an interview for and he said hip hop was at an all time low as well. all these new artist claiming to be hip hop but all they rap about is fake.... i just wanted to know if there was anyone else that felt the same.... i havent burned any cd's for a long time cuz there is nothing worth listening too. if i do burn something, its all old school joints i havent heard in a long time....

Soundbombing lol .... that takes me back.  Usually anything on rawkus is pretty good.


As far as hip hop goes it has hit a low point and all the new songs are something you listen to in clubs mainly but since hip hop has been influenced by all types of genres I tend to listen to lots of old records that musicians sample.

To me hip hop currently  is when you select the best material from different genres and call it a mixtape. jazz,funk,soul,blues,rap,electronica mainly these genres.  Stonesthrows roster makes this happen...

I like alot of the beats it's catchy gets your attention but if they added some real lyrical content to most of the songs these artists get, Hip-Hop could make a drastic come back.

What's even funnier is how they have so many collaborations now. and it's always some weaker artist with a Heavy Hitter.

My list is pretty close to Damicci's actually.  I do like Rick Ross for some odd reason, not for a lyrical sense, but more for the "beat"...  I guess at work, I play his music to annoy everyone else around me. 

One group that I have been high on my playlist, Blue Scholars.  Can't wait to see them live again here in SF when they join the stage with Hiero....

i actually like 50 cent up the middle of the massacre. alot of his mixtapes are dope, get rich or die trying was good and power of the dollar was off the hook. but other than that i can prolly agree to the other 98% of that list, but i do like birdman too...lol.

most of the big name artists nowadays are garbage.. theyre just like everything else - fads.

i seriously wish old school artists like eric b and rakim were still around

Last Wayne song I really liked was Hustla Music.  The way I see it, good hip-hop doesnt sell to the masses anymore.  Too harsh on the ears and minds.  There are still good MC's you just have to search for their music thats really where its at.  Eminem, 50 cent, Wayne, TI... etc.  They are all great MC's but play to the ears of the money.  They still make great songs, you just have to search or stumble on them.

pretty much anyone who came out after 2000. i miss the days of good old story telling. these days all rappers rap about is how much money they got or driving around in their bentleys. i like the samples used in most current songs but hearing these artists not keep time with the beat just irks me.

Exactly.  I ended up finding one of them in my CD player from middle school in my parents attic a couple months back.  A few songs I quite enjoy on it, though i have no idea as to their names.

man i wouldn't call  it a "hate/hit list", but there is some music that i [I]personally[/I] don't like.
 
1) soulja boy really is as bad as they say. i clowned the f**k out of my boy who bought that bs. i didn't even know who it was at the time. it sounded like little kid music, which i later found out it was.
 
2) almost every hip-hop/r&b artist. t-pain is the worst, akon gets on my nerves. actually the whole hook singing/crossover thing gets on my nerves. i just don't like singing.
 
3) damn near anything with a female in it except for trina. not that you'll see me bumpin her music or anything, i just think she's sexy so i let her slide.
 
4) pretty much the whole "snap" thing.
 
i was never into the underground hip-hop thing, which seems to be the ppl who always judge the "state of hip-hop". to me its all good. the radio has sucked for as long as i can remember. there are some artists that i liked but are getting progressively weaker ([I]yes[/I] wayne... ti is another one and 3-6 seems to be going that way). the way i see it is they did enough for me, if they want to switch it up, and thats how they're livin, then its cool. you'll still see me bumpin the s**t i did like.
 
i touched on it in the other thread; being succesful is not selling out. if you've been in it long enough and your lifestyle has changed you'd be fake to keep rapping lke it hadn't. i don't want to hear someone that i know has millions and millions of dollars talking about struggling unless its in the past tense.

i blame the founder of this crap revolution.... Puff Daddy aka P Diddy aka Diddy aka P aka Sean John aka thief of beats cuz he uses entire songs not samples and just rhymes over it.

Lil wayne is really hit or miss. Listen to the first track on da carter 3. That shit bumps haaaaaaard.but he isn't a lyrical genius like everyone claims, though he does have some clever lines.anyways, I look at it like this, there's hip hop that I can enjoy on a deeper level and then there's hip hop that I can bump in my car. For example, I've enjoyed lupe fiasco even before food and liquor but a lot of his shit I can't bump.
And about the black eyed peas...they are the biggest sell outs in hip hop EVER! I loved them on bridging the gap.

any song that has to have a dance made up to it is crap. the only real lyricist still going strong i feel is nas. if the music was gone and all that was left were the actual words, he'd run circles around most all other current rappers.  lil wayne's stuff is hit or miss as stated earlier. his mixtapes are far better than his actual album releases. as far as tpain's dr. suess hatted ass, i can't think of words horrible enough to describe him.

I'm not much into the hip hop music scene anymore.  I rarely have my radio tuned to FM anymore.  I'm usually listinening to old white men talk about politics on AM radio.  LOL...good shit tho i love hearing it.

Current hip hop is really just club music now.  It's all about getting the girls to take their clothes off or drop it like it's hot.  It's been admitted by Mike Jones...it's stripper pole dancing music.  Nothing wrong with it, but I think most people want it [hip hop/rap] to speak to a generation.

But when you think about it...how many of us on this board can relate to how some of these rappers grew up?  Raise your hand or reply if you can honestly say you lived in poverty, or single mother raising you, or dad is in jail?  Not many.  I know I can't.

I will never relate to life in the inner city.  I will never pretend to be hood.

Most hip hop music today is veering away from the downfalls of society in the cities, the poverty, the crime.  In a sense that is good.  It is good to see more focus on something positive rather than something negative.

BTW...i currently like Yung Joc...for the beats.  I'm more of a "beat" fan...so anything from the south is pretty good right now.  Lyrics could use some work...but i'm down with a lot of the "play it loud in the club" shit.

lil wayne actually has a few good mixtapes out. the reason why most people cant stand him is because they overplay the music and people get tired of it. but lolipop does suck ass thats the worst song on the album... but i really cant stand jay z his voice urks me

this new stuff is pretty much crap!! im not mad at these cats for getting their paper, but if it was not made in the 90's im not listening to that shit, cept for Kayne his attitude is jacked up but his beats are hot and his rhymes are pretty clever

Sometimes I stumble across some super-duper wack sh*t...Some "underground" stuff, like Art.I.Miss and Funky DL. It kinda makes me sit back and be like "what the f*ck? Man-up you lil bitch-made punk" Cryin ass lil dudes on the mic grow some chest hair. Funky DL is an ill producer, but he'll be crying on the mic about how some girl broke his heart or how he is just friends with a girl he wants to bone
