Well the design of the wheel has alot to do with it.. As you can see from the center it bows out then back in. This give the brake caliper clearance and also the look of a fat lip. the face sticks out more but then goes back in to seem flat.

Reverse-in spokes..like Freddie stated. That's what allows it..that's what made my 18x9 -3 VSKF's clear my 6 piston AP's on my Z. The spoke design plays that role...

Its called false lip, the spokes curve inwards to give brake clearance and the look of more lip. If you were to make the spokes flush with the disk size, like other rims are you would easily loose another couple inches of lip.

That's why I love my wheels. 3" of lip up front and clears BBK (by a hair).

Those wheels will probably take out the curb before they even get bent.

I don't think that's called "cheater lip"

To me those look like the faces are in "supe low disk" style, close to the correct offsets then they used Spacers to get clearance for the wheel/caliper.

My cousin did this on his BMW M3 with 20" collectizone DD4R several years ago.

That does look great though!

its called a "concave spoke design " . or thats how its referred to at Wheelshops like discount tire and big O... but really any of the above seem to work.

by the way, my opinion , stepped lip = Failtown. flat lip all day is how i roll . still nice rims Nevertheless
