Help me choose wheel/offset/camber for my DD 2GS
Gday all,
I am thinking i will go with Trafficstar DTX with Vermillion Red (car colour) "windows". Photoshop below (not the right red).
Assuming i go with these wheels, i'm a bit stuck on the offsets. I can only lower my car legally to 100mm to the lowest point. As such, i am not sure how much camber i will acheive at this height thus how much the wheels will tuck in? Also, i dont want to run more stretch than 225/35 on 9" and 235/35 on 10" as the roads i drive daily have lots of potholes. I will run Federal ss595 tyres.
The offsets i am considering/mixing and matching are:
- 19x9 +18 [high disk] 19x10 +23 [normal disk]
- 19x9 +23 [normal disk] 19x10 +14 [mid disk]
i could also go +18/+14 or +23 all round and maybe run some Slip-Ons if i decide i want more in future.
I know i will need to shave my fenders at the rear, and shave &/or roll them up front. I am willing to do this. Basicaly i just want to know what you guys recommend given this car will be daily and at 100mm ride height.
I really appreciate the input as i may order the wheels sooner rather than later so i am trying to make sure i dont have to run spacers as i really dont want to do that, but i also dont want any more than maybe a couple of MM of poke as this is a daily and apart from Cop/Theif attention i want to minimise damage to the car.
Here is a quick chop of the wheels with the red windows..
and a DODGEY 2min Job *Not to scale* image of my car with them slapped on it (probably the equivalent of like 21s haha)

kn_19_ht - i dont want to get this car resprayed at all, i really like the colour espeically in the flesh in sunlight it looks real nice. With the wheels, yes that is why i want red windows, cause everyone has black, which suits black/silver/white cars but maybe not so much my red car. I want to do a meet too, of all VIP cars/VIP style cars/VIP enthusiasts. I just dont know how to organize it!?
4play4dr - thanks for replying again on this forum too, it is much appreciated. i notice that your offsets are 'secret' but i guess you are speaking from experience with your wheels? I am thinking perhaps +23 front, +14 rear, or if not then +23 all round and run a slip on spacer in the rear to get ~+18

Are they really strict over there about how low your car is? Over here, if something is illegal we just take the risk to look good. Haha.

chrispy - yeah theyre strict, like if you tuck tyre or rim they will pretty much just ping you for being too low. it doesnt even matter if you really are or not, they will say 'tyre to be clear of guard' even if it isnt rubbing.
the height thing is just moreso practicality though. i know for a fact my last car was about 75mm at the front and *couldnt* get up my driveway. i predict that anything less than 90mm and i wouldnt get into my driveway, which is an issue. if its exhaust scrape i can live, but i still live at home so my old's will kick my ass for scratching up the drive/kerb haha
plus my work is also very bumpy. Basically i dont want to get offsets where i need the car to be like 70mm from the ground otherwise they will poke right out. i want them to sit nice at around 90mm. then if i DO go lower for Shows etc theyll just tuck a bit

Here's my advice. If you're not gonna tuck tire, +23 is gonna be pretty flush. I had Tein CS coilovers before and those don't go as low.
That was before the air suspension.
After air suspension. See how it's not as flush now?
Lower offsets at a higher height will poke and look funny unless you add more camber.

I'll be honest, i'm not really liking the look. Matching wheels to the body colour is very much a dub look to me... And with the large wheel sizes (that photoshop looks more like 20s), it just looks like its straight from the US dub scene.
If you want to do something interesting with the wheels, try white accents or even white faces. I've seen it on a few cars here and it looks haaawwwt...
Btw, if you are worried about the 100mm rule, you should also be aware that shaving your fenders is considered a body structure weakening mod, and instantly makes your car unroadworthy. Rolling is ok, but you are not allowed to cut! Just some food for thought...
Since you are not in Qld, i say stuff the 100mm rule, and just try to keep everything else legal. If you get done for height, wind the coilovers back up, get it checked then go back down. And if you dont get a kit, just keep the bumpers looking around 100mm and you will be alright

chrispy - thanks alot for those pics, even when you are lower on air, they still look okay. true theyre a little sunken but i would bet in real life and to most people it still looks pretty aggressive. plus i guess ideally i would like a bit lower than you were on CS so hopefully they will just pull in slightly more and be okay.
Dominik - yeah the chop really doesnt do it justice i dont think. the wheel itself i like the look of with the red. i was a little unsure, but ive just looked through the latest VIPstyle mag and lots of those cars have car colours on the wheels as well as there being a whole feature on coloured wheels & other colour options etc. Im really not sure of white on red.
Good point on the shaving thing. i never really thought about it that way. i doubt anyone would ever know though anyway, even the pit guys arent that anal! if i went over low on 19s they might pay attention up there, but if i take them off and raise it if i get defected, i doubt they would even look (provided i can re-attach the liners somehow)
Yeah i wasnt thinking of a kit just cause of expense at this stage and also so i have less to damage when driving low ;)

from what i've seen contrast is the hot thing right now (and even if not i still like it).
i think you were more on track with the champagne centers.

^ in the latest VIPstyle mag there is some contrast but mostly body colour and black accents on the wheels seems popular (so i am sortof on that track moreso i guess)
there is a dark red LS in there that is pictured both with champagne Works, and then with them re-coloured to red & black, imo it looks better with the red/black. also mine is more red than his so i do think it would look a bit McD's as elpres said!
here's a white 2GS on DTX...

I would consider rolling before cutting. If you do get done for the fenders, it will be an EXPENSIVE exercise to bring it back to roadworthy.
Coloured wheels are starting to come out in the shows here, but usually its a feature colour (i.e. Yumi's white celsior with pink wheels)... Body colour wheels (except black) are still the exception
Another thought... Will the red be precisely the same as the car? You know all those ricer hondas from the late 90s that put anodised red/blue rims on their cars thinking that it matched the red/blue paint??? Yet it completely clashes?

Dom - yeah they said it may not be 100% but will be as close as they can get. As for not shaving the fenders just rolling, apparently it cant be done on the rears without shaving. 2GS have big metal squares on the inner lips which are for the liner to screw in to, and if you try to roll with those still there it dimples the fender... so i dont know what to do with that? i was just going to shave it but now im worried and not sure how to do it without damage..
but your DUB comment and similar by some on my local forum has put me off the DTX altogether! haha I am now looking at other options in order of preference below:
Lock Smice Gerade Polish
Weds Kranze LXZ Black Polish
SSR Vienna Noble Polish
And on the maybe list to get priced later...
Lock Smice Valore Silver
Rays Black Fleet V810 Black Polish

Like the DTX wheel, not the red color. Go with the polished black, with a black chrome face if you can, and it would look nice and clean. Red makes it look like too much of a DUB look.

the gerades look good but i'd rather the leon waff4es with stepped lip in that style.
i personally dont like black accented wheels on non black cars but i know i am the minority.

yeah i checked the waffes, and although i like them slightly more the cost is significantly more (probably $1000+) and i dont like them that much more to be honest. same/similar price i might do it but not for that much more. (thinking of replacement costs in case of damaging one too)
BlackonBlack - i feel you mate, i agree with the black accents really. i just dont like "plain" silver wheels, i think the accents do bring out the designs more in some wheels. Hence like those LXZ and V810 i only like them in the accent black, so if not that then i wont get them :P

you have good taste in wheels ... I would say with a red car .. hard to pick the right combo to match but I like the Weds Kranze LXZ Black Polish for your red car ..
I have a +25 with a 3 mil spacer after shaving in rear and bagged and have 3 mils to play ... but could have shaven more to get a 7 mil spacer in there .. but ehh we'll see
