a) have you tried the vendors
b) unless you're dealing with a distributor, there will be a middle man.

the best way to get stuff that is a bit obscure is through a middle man really. i deal with a couple of aussie guys who live in Japan and can get hold of almost anything be it new or through Yahoo Japan Auctions.

if i didnt use those guys id have no chance cause a lot of the time the japanese companies cant/wont deal with foreigners (cant as in I cant read or write japanese and they cant do english!)

i also use an aussie site which is an interface for Yahoo Japan Auctions. this allows me to search and do my own real-time bidding on the site. Again, this would be impossible without this 'middle man' service because it converts to english and allows me to bid. A lot of these auctions wont sell to overseas directly so using this service means i can get things that i normally couldnt.

^i know what you mean. but i guess just try and find someone trust worthy. the good thing about the aussie blokes i use is that they both do it somewhat 'on the side' so they simply take around 10% of the purchase price as commision, which is normally not too bad. it's more of an extra money spinner for them than a full on profit business (although im sure they have quite a turn-over!)
