Infiniti owner in Florida

I'm Shaun, I live in Florida and drive a 2000 Infiniti I30t. I have been building cars for over twenty years and decided to change up my style and go VIP. I bought a I30t and my buddy bought a Maxima. We are hoping to learn some new tricks and help progress the movement of VIP style cars.

both the I30 and maxima are the same car. neither of which are traditional VIP platforms, but VIP style can be attempted. good luck and welcome to VSC!

Thank you for letting me be apart of this forum and I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but the first part of your post is a little off base. ( my opinion ) I would think this site would be to bring people that enjoy VIP type cars together, not push them away. Are you telling me that because I don't own a lexus GS that my I30 is not a traditonal VIP Platform ? Because if that's the case this site should be called Traditional VIP Style cars. I looked in the gallery and saw plenty of cars done up VIP Style that are not a Lexus GS's. Also who has this list of Traditional VIP CARS I would like to see who wrote it. Some one from Toyota or Lexus perhaps.

man trust me, this is not a battle you want to fight (especially not for your first post). results are more important than labels. nismo's comments are true and what you can expect to hear on this forum.
 
there are plenty of members that encourage foward thinking but understanding of vip is prerequisite. nobody made a "list" (well acually they have), traditional platforms are the origins of vip. i.e. the first to do  it in japan. flagship rwd v8 japanese sedans. now the world has kept turning since way back when and some have moved forward (others have not) but history and tradition are always to be respected.
 
when a member says "its not a platform, but you can achieve vip style" thats not an insult. thats someone trying to inform you about vip and welcome you at the same time.

Well, I just bought the car 2 weeks ago and the car has now been lowered and I have added a new exhaust and a clean set of 20" 5 spoke Binna wheels. My buddy ( Maxinout ) and I just customized the floors in my Infiniti and his Maxima by add real cherry wood floors to both cars. I hope to have pics soon. We are both big Nissan fans and I have been building them since I was 16 and I'm now 38 and pretty well now in my area for building Nissans and Drift cars. We just decide to go a new route.

well if you really want to do the vip thing right be prepared to redo some stuff and spend some cash. theres a lot more going on than just a look, you need to be using high end parts.
 
if the wheels are the ones i think they are its just not gonna work. you need to be looking for high end wheels with appropriate offsets. 20s are a little big (common misconception is vip is about running huge wheels, its about running well fitting wheels) and i doubt you got great offsets. fake multi-piece is a no-no. either go true multi or nice monoblock.
 
also we don't drop cars, we slam em. coilovers or air makes up 90% of the suspension around here. theres a couple guys who are spring dropped and thats as low as they want to go but eh... everything looks better slammed.
 
i know it hurts to hear that what you have probably isn't good enough but thats what it is. with already working with a entry level luxury car you're going to have to kick it up a notch to hang. that doesn't necessarily mean you have to do a ton of mods, but what you do do well.

slammed, nice wheels, and clean. not necessarily vip but doing a little well is better than doing a lot half-a**ed.

Thanks for the info. I think my car is headed in the right direction for a very clean build. The wheels are from Germany and fit the car nicely and I'm riding on Yokahoma AVS's not a cheap set of General or Hanook tire. I also did my own exhaust and will be fabing my own suspenion parts. I was also the first person on the eastcoast to convert a 240sx to Right Hand Drive. I hope that if I can build a RHD240SX I shoud be able to pull this off...

The funny thing about this site is that the people here want you to build cars to what they like or are building. Well I build me cars for myself, if you like it great, if you don't that fine also. That's why most of us love to build cars, to be different and stand out. This site holds a ton of great info, but lacks friendly conversation.

nothing but open arms here bro. i wasn't telling you to turn you off or to make you feel unwelcomed; i was just trying to pass info to you, cuz some people think all 4 door cars are "VIP" platforms. i am a 3rd gen maxima owner myself, and love the cars, but definately not vip.

its not that anybody wants to dictate your style, but there is a level of quality that is expected. vip has become the new buzz word, as i'm sure you know, and the ogs (i don't include myself) are putting in there best effort to keep it true to its roots. too often a style gets popular and it gets flooded with cheap imitation builds. this all started before i came along and i've had more than my fair share of arguments and hard feelings because ppl were telling me what i wanted to do couldn't be done. i've always had confidence in my skill and always been willing to "pay to play" but because of the car i was working with (as well as my attitude) i caught a lot of heat. over time that died down and you just have to understand that its impossible to tell the walkers from the talkers until they have something to show. best of luck on your build. you just have to understand that stepping up with a non-platform car you're gonna get checked. its nothing personal, but there are guidelines and there are a lot of ppl who actually care enough about the scene to make sure you know whats up.
 
at the same time coming into a new scene thinking you've got it down pat is arrogant (no offense and not saying you do). if you hang around long enough i guarentee you'll understand exactly what i'm talking about and someday you'll be in the intro section trying to give someone the heads up. i also gaurentee that you'll change up your style several times as you learn. when i first saw a vip car i was like "bet! i'm gonna bag my maxima on some 20x7.5 tis wheels and be vip". luckily i got checked before i ever hit vsc. i probably would have got banned day 1.
 
i'm not tellin you this as a preacher, i'm telling you as someone whos been through it and only telling you what to expect. if you haven't noticed yet i came on this site a little over a year ago with a 98 maxima. i always said it would be a colaboration of different styles that i'm into/have been into in the past but learning about vip has had a huge influence on my build and even sparked me tobuy a q for a full on vip build next year.

Hey bro welcome to the site. Lotz of info in here and a plenty of room for grey. So keep doin what your doin and PLEASE try to avoid these kinds of statements. Like I said, lots of room for grey, so if they fit and their the right price some peeps will tak'em. Some of these boys go through tires in a week w/o burnouts. I'm sure you can feel the impact of that. Please keep us updated on your progress, pics if ya got em!
