FAIRFIELD, Calif. -- A 7-alarm fire, burning on Travis Air Force Base, has destroyed at least 23 structures Saturday.

Television reports from the scene said that many of the structures are vacant homes that are scheduled for demolition.

The blaze started as a grass fire at about 3 p.m. and quickly spread to the base.

Fire officials in Fairfield and on the base were not immediately available for comment.
