question for the y33 owners...

ok im trying to install some springs on my stock y33 and i have run into a problem in taking the strut out... Its prolly simple and i should have known but i come from 70s and 80s corollas where the most special bolt or nut on the car is a castle nut... Im trying to disconnect the connecting arm from the strut to the stabalizer bar and i cant figure this bolt out... its got a hex key in the shaft of the bolt and a normal nut. now the question is, is there a special tool for this part or do i have to do something special. i tried using a hex key socket set on it and it feels like its going to strip out and i dont want to do that? any help would be awesome since i seem to be being a re re about this...

Use the hex key only to hold the bolt still and use the wrench to turn the nut. It's been 4 years since I did mine, but I'm pretty sure that's how it goes.

agreed. that's how you take the hat off of the struts. make sure you compress the springs though. i'm sure you know you're suppose to do that already...... i hope....

Yup, hex key socket to just hold it while wrench the nut off. Use a floor jack to jack up the control arm to ease removal of the swaybar endlink.

Book calls out 4 hours for front alone! Rear calls for under 2 hours. The Y33 suspension in front is indeed a bitch to R&R. If you pay shop labor rates, besides parts you will pay 6 hours labor.
