Wheel/caliper clearance on 2GS
hi guys,
i asked this on CL also but didnt get too much insight so sorry if you have seen it there too!
I am just wondering if anyone knows how much clearance there is up front on a 2GS? can they take Low disc up front?
The wheels im looking at only come in Low or High disc, and i would prefer Low for a more concave face. i am going a bit weaker on offsets than originally intended as my suspension is quite soft (Insurance coilovers) and at my ride height +24 pokes a bit much for me at least up front. So i am looking at +27 Low Disc all round. (possibly +24 Low up back..)
according to the chart, the clearance on the Low disc is 36mm.
Reckon i will be right to go Low Disc all round?
cheers

Low disk usually clear front calipers on 2gs.

how will a +10 low disk compare with a +10 high disk?

Depends on the manufacturer, usually around 25mm or so.

As stated it depends on the brand and style of the wheels.
Offset doesn't have that much affect on clearnace since you could order
19x9 +10 low disk wouldn't clear
19x9 +10 Med disk could clear but you might need a 3mm spacer
19x9 +10 high disk will clear
but all three options will look the same on the car as far as flushness goes.
you could order the low disk and then leave 5mm for spacer in your offset calculation. If you end up needing it then you are good and the wheels are flush and if not 5mm spacer doesn't look bad and you didn't loose your flush factor.

true, but ive had issues with spacers before and i personally dont want them at all.
a lot of the wheels im looking at are fairly large-faced wheels which dont generally have much dish. So im trying to both maximise dish, and more importantly on the full face wheels, accentuate the concave of the wheel more so it doesnt look like a big dinner plate!
i had a look yesterday when i had my wheels off and i roughly measured from the hub mounting surface to the front edge of the caliper on the front of my car and it measures around 21mm or so. So i would say if the wheel states that it has anywhere from 25mm+ of clearance it should clear up front, most of the Low disc wheels ive seen say they have around 35mm of clearance which should be plenty for 2GS. The problem is that i dotn think all of the wheel charts have that measurement, or it isnt always easy to find.

I have eurolines ........ 19x9 25 et in front low disk , I had to shave a lil off the caliper about 1/16 of a inch.

I already ordered a set of 19x9 +10 low disk fronts in AME shallen ax. These wouldnt fit at all? What would I have to do to make it fit?

it depends on the wheel design too mate. AME site is useless as shit and has nothing on it fitment/spec wise
they might fit anyway because i think others have Low disk AMEs on 2GS. That said maybe ring them and see if they can tell you the clearance for their Low disc for the wheel model you ordered.
if its anywhere over about 25mm or so it should be fine (and most Low Disc clearance values ive seen have been in the mid to low 30s so i would have though they would have fit fine)
Philly has thrown me with his Works but then they are a very flat face design so maybe they dont have such good clearance on a Low disc. Im looking at Schwert SC2s from Work and im geting my guy in Japan to ask Work if they will fit on the front of 2GS in Low disc. they might because of their spokey design though moreso than flatter wheels

ame's low disk equal to regular disk. because they offer a super low disk. but who ever you bought it from should able to figure it out for you. i mean how can people sell shit that they don't know about. after all that is why they are authorized dealers for them.

19x9.5+45 will hit the arm that the UCA bolts onto. Needs a 5mm spacer to clear?
(just incase somebody runs something that high)

i had 9j +24 superlow disc on the front of my 99GS and had no problems besides needing a 5mm spacer to make the stance look a little nicer :)

^ ive got some Works on order, but since im soft ive gone 9j +27 on a low disc haha might also need a 5mm spacer but ill see how i go (car is a daily)
i actually got my guy in Japan to ask Work Wheels Japan for me and they confirmed that Low Disc would clear 2gs fronts
