How To Take Care Of A Black Car?

wassup everyone.my car is gonna be painted black but im really scared after the first wash im gonna screw up the paint.i need some tips on how to take care of a black car.like do i use a wash mit?or a microfiber towel?and what should i use to dry it after?and if theres dust on my car should i use a duster?any help would be great.thanks!

microfiber will be one of your best friends for washing and drying just dont buy cheap microfiber towels and u will be fine

Here's some things I do that have helped maintain a swirl-free finish on my recently repainted black Supra and what I used to do on my old black Y33.
 
Wash with Meguiars Gold Class using a Genuine Sheepskin Mitt and 2 Buckets with a Grit Guard in each one.
 
If planning on waxing, use Meguiars Clay Bar Kit, and if needed for light swirl removal, use Meguiar's #80 Polish using a Porter Cable 7424 buffer with a yellow Lake Country foam pad, removed with a Cobra microfiber towel. 
 
For wax, Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax 2.0 with the Porter Cable 7424 and blue Lake Country foam pad, letting 1st coat sit overnight, then remove and reapply 2nd coat and let sit overnight as well then remove. 
 
I never use a California Car Duster. I just let the dust build up and wash it all off on the next wash. I wax about every 10 washes or like at least once a month. So far this has kept my black cars's paint looking deep and swirl free.

A big thing with the dusters is where you live. If you live in a humid place like MD, then the dust gets "moist" and sticks. I don't know what it's like in Hawaii.  Out here where it's dry though, you can literally blow the dust off if you had enough lungs.  I've used the Cal dusters for years, but now someone else makes a microfiber duster and I LOVE it.  It doesn't cling to the fibers quite as much as the Cali ones, but it works great. I spray detail it about once a week.  I haven't washed my car with water going on 5 weeks now, just dust every other day or so and spray detail once a week.

I've been to detail clinics at Meguiars, going to one at Adam's next month, and used to detail on a freelance basis, I've tried countless products (I have an organizer I keep in the trunk with about 15 towels and 20+ bottles/cans of different stuff) but I'm in love with ICE.  Nothing goes on easier or wipes off easier.  But I found when I spray detailed with Meguiars spray, the car looked cloudy. Now that I have the ICE spray detail, it seems the ICE products work well together, but not with other brands.  For me, ICE is a brake through in ease of use and a deep, glossy shine.

thanks for all the input guys.man,that seems like alot of work!but im determined to do my best to keep my car looking fresh.i gotta start buying some products.but can i apply those quick detail sprays on fresh paint?cuz i know that you cant apply wax on a freshly painted car for a couple of months.

The burgundy Meguiar's Quik Detail bottle does leave the cloudy residue, but the new black bottle, Meguiar's Ultimate Detailer, is worth the doubled price for the streakless/water repelling formula, its good stuff.

if you don't wax, it will look horrible and becomes more difficult to maintain...

This should be like basic knowledge for all car people out there. I didnt know about the sheepskin mitts and 2 bucket wash system until a few weeks ago. Good information here!

i just did some research and on freashly painted vehicles,it is safe to you Meguiars quick detailer spray.on their website it says
[I] "Many of Meguiar's polishes are wax and silicone free, and will not seal the surface of the finish. This means the paint can continue to properly cure throughout the recommended curing period."[/I]

hey man... my homie just got his Q painted the oem color not sure if there's a difference but... he has to wait & can't wash the damn car & bruthas plannin to cut & buff then wax, but that's just him you should talk to your shop & see wusup with the immediate care after the car is done... but to claybar a car is definately a way to go, seen it done to a silver vettte DAMN looks clean but tedious...! I love just watching the progress threads of the clean ups, they're very thorough and you learn the right way to clean, restore, and maintain every bit of your car aesthetically.

I think it's funny that people think Cal dusters scratch cars.  As I said, I have a microfiber version, & they don't scratch unless you push them down on the paint and the car is filthy, but you're not supposed to, you're supposed to let them glide over the surface.  I've detailed cars for 20+ years, used to have my own little detail thing going, and been to Meguiars detail clinic at their HQ in Irvine.  I know other guys who used to run detail shops too, and none of them agree that Cal dusters scratch cars, not when used right.

I haven't washed my car with water in FIVE, yes, FIVE weeks now. I dust it every day and spray detail as needed to get those little brown bug shits off it, but that's it.  And I'm showing this weekend!  I have a duster that is exclusive for wheels and lower trim, and one that's only used above the belt so to speak (chrome trim).

About 2x a year I strip the car down with clay, use a high speed to polish it, normally go through 2 stages of polishing, then wax and it's good to go for another 6 months. My paint is by no means perfect, but people trip out that the paint is 10 years old, most people think it's been re-painted.

^ I also haven't had problems with scratching using the Cali Car Duster. Granted my car isn't black and doesn't show scratches as easily, I let it glide over the car and it works fine.

I will never again, however, let girls wash and dry my car. I don't care how good they look with water splashing on them and having a good time, but one of the girls took a towel (regular one), swung it at another girl, missed, and hit the ground hard. She then proceeded to use it to dry my roof until another girl saw my jaw drop and stopped her. Now I have some rather large scratches up there that are visible even with my colour.

I use only 3M products and Meguirs on my cars. Clay bars are for removing contaminants from paint. If you are getting your car repainted look into scratch resistant clear. It cost a lot more but will pay off over time. Less time cleaning is more time cruising

paint it white.






buy the MR.CLEAN auto cleaner gun. so that you can shoot soap out of the gun and not have to keep dipping it into the bucket full of dirt again.

get a large detergent bucket and buy this as well.

it is designed to keep the water on top and the dirt on the bottom. it really works.

use the bucket as a rinsing bucket for the scrubber.

then continue to use the demineralizing system on the MR CLEAN spray gun to spray the car dry so you dont need to wipe as much.


so if u follow this route. you wont be scrapping dirt all over ur car and essentially scratching it, and you wont be wiping your car down with micro sized dirt and harmful fabric as well.

All you need is a proper detail once in while. Here's an example, but this guy did the whole nine yards. A proper 6-7 stage detail will obtain you a brand new finish.
