Lexus is Toyota?

What do you guys think, is Lexus Toyota?

I have been arguing this topic with a friend of mine a long time.
I think Lexus isn't Toyota..

Because I feel that when people say that Lexus is Toyota it's a kind of a shame..

I know that Lexus is a sistercompany (spl?) of Toyota but I wouldn't still say it is a Toyota..
Just because of the different motor & electronics..
It looks like Toyota but inside it isn't Toyota, but Lexus.

Yeah but what I mean is that Toyota Aristo does't have the same engine that Lexus LS400 has. Right?
And Lexus is more luxus than Toyota comparising interior..

The aristo came with the 1uz as well.

They had the option of an 2jz-ge and the gte, as well as the 1uz. 

The aristo was the same as it is here, just a turbo model and some badass cloth interior options. 

Lexus has always been toyota in other countries, and just now came out in japan as lexus with the new ls460 generation models. 

Sorry, but you are wrong on this one.

The ES300 is a Toyota Windom, as well as a Camry here in America.  They even shared the same chassis. Imagine, buying a Camry for 10k more, so you can have HID, and all the top notch options that came on a Camry were standard on the ES300, and some more, and some lexus badges. 

Toyota came out with Lexus here in the states to compete with Mercedes and BMW.

Back in 89ish, buying a toyota was just that, buying a toyota. Cheap, good on gas, and reliability. 

But a luxurious Japanese Lexus ('not toyota' lol) was cheaper than  Merc or BMW, and better quality (some say). They kept up with most standards that the other luxury cars had. 

I bet lots of people still don't know it's a Toyota either.



My boss told me "you might as well have bought a Toyota", to which I promptly replied "you might as well have bought a Nissan then"

Well if you get an LS400 then it's not, if you get a Celsior, then it is.

Lexus is now available as a brand in Japan.  It has been historically known to be a division of Toyota.

lol i know what you are trying to say mate, you're trying to say Lexus isnt toyota because its more luxurious and some models come out as pure Lexus and not toyota.
 
but the fact is it is made by toyota, it is a toyota, it just has a different name. its just a marketing technique to sell the cars. They're really all toyotas since that's who makes them, and all the interior panels and etc have toyota stamped on them, it's just externally to compete in the Luxury market without alienating their cheaper model cars they called it Lexus.
 
its like Infiniti etc. its all just a brand exercise. But yes, a Lexus will be better in quality than a Toyota because they are made for the higher end market and are more expensive. but it still doesnt mean it isnt toyota rebranding one of their cars :P haha

Honda/Acura,Nissan/Infinite etc.

but in your defense you aren't saying they aren't related, just you draw a mental line saying that lexus is so much nicer/more elegant, it couldn't really be related to that camry rolling down the road!

I would be happy with just one toyota/lexus at my house.  or perhaps a nissan/infiniti...that would be nice too.

My car was released before the Lexus variant, as were many other models. Lexus models are Toyotas to me.

LOL at this thread. Yes, Toyota IS Lexus.  Every single Lexus sold in the USA was sold in Japan as a Toyota until about 2 years ago when they brought the Lexus brand there.  I saw a new Lexus dealer being built over there and my in-laws  asked me what it was lol.  Every Infiniti IS a NISSAN too.

No, that is not the same thing at all.  Audi isn't a 100% re badged VW, it's a different car. They share technology, and some platoforms but they're different cars with different interiors, body panels, instruments, etc. It's not like VW takes a Passat and puts Audi on it. Toyota takes an Aristo and puts Lexus GS400 on it.  Same w/ Ford / Mazda, there are no models which are even remotely the same (any more that is, Ford Courier and B200 pickups were the same, Ford Explorer / Mazda Navajo were the same exact car with a different badge). Toyota takes their Celsior and put Lexus LS on the exact same car.

Toyota and Lexus are not different companies, they are not different models. They're 100% the exact same car, only with different logos on them.  In order to make my Infiniti Q45 identical to a Nissan Cima  I need to swap the badges on the trunk, the engine cover has a different logo, the air-bag has a different logo, the door sills and seats have different logos and that's it.  It's nothing but logos. (F&R bumpers are different due to different crash laws)

This has been gone over a million times in the platform thread.

Toyota Celsior = Lexus LS
Toyota Aristo = Lexus GS
Nissan Cima = Infiniti Q45
Nissan Cedric = 03-04 Infiniti M45
Nissan Fuga = 05+ Infiniti M35/45

Those cars are the exact same cars with different logos on them.  My mom's Lexus RX is a Toyota Harrier with a different logo.

The VW Passat isnt the same platform as the Audi A4 or A6?  VW is a parent company of Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, and Bugatti, last I heard.  Someone correct me if I'm mistaken plz

Google is your friend!! Huge difference between a parent company and a rebranding! The lexus name was created strictly because Toyota was smart enough to know that American consumers weren't going to pay high prices for a Toyota, but that they were dumb enough to buy the exact same thing if it had a different name.

No, no, and no. Not at all actually

They share platforms and technologies, but even their shared models are designed differently - there's more than the badge that's different, even if the changes are slight, like the Ranger and B-Series.

You just gotta love Toyota marketing. If it wasn't for them making the Scion line-up, do you think the Toyota bB and Ist would last in the U.S.? It's the cool factor and marketing that has made the Scion brand sell well and with the first xB and xA having a JDM counterpart having people import parts to look like what? A Toyota! 

Since the VIP scene in Japan being done on Toyotas it's similar since there was no Lexus in Japan. So we get the Lexus here in the U.S. and bring what we see happening over there home, which is going all out JDM from the wheels to the badges. To some people that buy a Lexus that are not in the know they think they have an upscale luxury car off a new brand, that's marketing on Toyota. But for us that research and get educated it's a Toyota rebadged, made left hand drive with more luxury add ons made. And with that education create some cool cars with ispiration from the far east that are seen here and featured on magazines, tv, etc.
