G50 Projector Fog Lights Retro

This idea for projector fog lights came from too much alcohol and impulse ebaying.  I figured since I have projector headlights, the fogs looked out of place.  So came the idea, which I pursued and accomplished.

I started off by removing the fog lights to see what I'm working with.

Then I removed the glass cover and see that the cheap foil inside the lights is pealing  :wtf

Then I got a hammer and beat out the housing from the socket.  
Just my luck I got a perfect sized hole  :uhhuh

Heres the all metal and glass projector fog light.  ($50 on ebay)

Projector mounted into the assembly...

Glass cleaned and polished and placed back on the assembly.

Rinse and repeat...

NICEEE!!! i like your custom fab work its awesome, when i first got my Q i use to dream of angel eyes & hids on my car... i believe there was a car on nico that had it done... it was a 1st gen too! Goodluck with your build goota love brandons photoshops skills!

once you remove them you see the four screws holding it on

Yes there was another guy on nico a long time ago that did the E39 conversion but his body shop just threw em in and made brackets, there was no effort to modify the fenders or hood and it looked terrible.

Very nice work.. But its such a shame to hide it behind the fluted glass lens!! Did you consider replacing that with flat (or even slightly curved) Plexan? Would look 100x better IMO

Yea I did, the problem is the glass has a 1/2'' lip all around that seats it into the fog assembly.

after looking again bro..im liking the projector retros..looks really nice actually lit up.

I like the way they came out.  A clear lens would really set them off but they do look good when they are turned on.  :biggthumpup:

What do you think would look better 3000k hid or 6000k?  I like the yellow look but im not sure how it will look.  Photoshop people where you at?

looks clean. You make it look easy as hell. lol. But yea the fluted lense kinda kills the look. did you try it without a lense at all? 
 
Post some pics of output with fogs only. I wonder if these have a cutoff shield and how it looks. I think yellow fogs would be good if u have hard winters with snow or rain. otherwise just go 6K.

Would look alot better with HID's IMHO but nice write up.

well money is the issue on that, I had a lot of unexpected expenses in the past few months so I'm happy the car is at least coming together this much

Don't get me wrong, I am not dogging the lights just saying when it comes to projectors they seem to look better lit with HID's.

+1. When i first got my g50 the first thing i did was get hids for the head and fog lights.

sick idea bro, i think it came out pretty clean. But i agree with others about gettin HID's.:giggity:

can you take some pics of the fogs on against a wall or garage door so we can see the output. I might get this for a project.

This is at a downward angle thats why theres not much output

why do you have them aimed that low? A lot of foreground lighting which isnt always a good thing. I think theyll look better with a yellow bulb or yellow capsule over the bulb than with HIDs. They still look sick tho. So are you running them without the fluted lense?

no what I meant was my driveway slopes down to my garage a little bit not the fogs are aimed down.

yes I like it without the lens on so I left it off

can you sand the lens to smooth it out? might take a while, but the outcome would probably be worth it.

It's a really thick glass, the only option is a lexan lens or some other transparent plastic.

yep, the only good thing about pt gear is with that shitty non-breathable material they use it doesn't stain from oil or grease :biggthumpup:
