HeadUnit Replacement Y33 to an Alpine

So my factory head unit took a crap in my 97 Y33 so I decided to get a 2000 Model Headunit and swap it in because well it has 6 disc indash. I got i put it in but it sounds weaker than the old 97 head unit plus the volume knob behaves wierd. In the old headunit i could just spin it quick and the volume would get cut. In the new headunit I could spin it quick and the volume stays the same, but if i turn it slow it goes down slow....wierd.

Anyways I have a brand new Alpine IVA-W200 that was sitting at Electronics Express. I want to install can't find a harness for the bloody car any body got any tips. I was over at the12volt.com and no help. They have plenty of alarm wiring but nothing for the headunit. Besides I think i am going to swap the front speakers and rear speakers and run all new wiring. Also gonna replace the rear deck speakers with new arc audio 6" subs that are IB and sound wicked! I am not a big super audio buff that feels that a $2000 install is what i must have. I need trunk space, I need clean and crisp sound that is slightly better than stock.

Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

doesn't metra make a harness? i found one easily for my 2000, circuit city, best buy and al's and ed's all had it in stock around me

if im correct... if its a bose system... everything needs to be replaced... but if its any other factory amp'd system.. it would just need a rewire to the system which I recommend doing it professional.. typically runs 120 for a rewire.

its a bose so a full rewire and new speakers was what i was told

metra does make a pnp harness kit but this specific model is known to fail.  you can rewire or scosche makes an oem intregration adaptor so you use your factory amp still

I along with others have double din nav (AVIC D3) units with the stock speakers.  Sounds much better than stock too since you can really control the space and the different levels..  Even w/ the Bose speakers, there's a way they make them work with other HU's, but I don't know crap about audio installs, all I know is they installed it and it works!  lol.

Yup, that's the one I used. I bought it from Wal-Mart too. lol

the reason it sounded weak is because the bose systems are designed for each vehicle so they are not always interchangeable between models or even year to year.

you have 3 options for speakers [I]correctly[/I] (you'll hear ppl say they just plugged it up but that's hit and miss):

1) run new wire for aftermarket speakers off of hu power.

2) run new wiring for aftermarket amp/speakers [I](recommended)[/I]

I've been using the adapter for years with no problems or sound distortion.  Aftermarket hu and bose speakers works just fine, in fact I got 1st place in a MECA sound quality competition with stock (rebuilt) bose speakers and a jensen HU

My recommendation is if you don't have any problems with stock bose speakers or the stock amp. 
I would keep them and just add a head unit with a sub out put, an amp and single 12" sub would do.

What i want to know is where people find a good looking/clean looking adapater to mount a single din and not have a nasty gap looking. Something that will easily mount to the side brackets that are on the OEM headunits.

I don't think anyone does a single din.  Double din looks so much more baller and OEM. My guess is you'd have to make something custom.

there are double din to single/pocket conversion kits but how well they turn out depends on the app. i actually have one coming in the mail that i plan on selling off. i am putting a single din in the g50 temporarily just to replace the bose system, but yeah... double din monitor is the way to go. on the same note, if you don't want a screen single din is definitely the way to go as far as quality hu.

You could do what I did with my 96 Maxima. I used the slide out cup holder tray out of my old 92 Maxima.

The deck I want is only 1DIN. Eclipse CD8053. No internal amp, no NAV, no swimming dolphins... just raw performance. I already have a TOM TOM which works perfect, just need to hack that too and hardwire it lol. Yea guess ill have to do some research or bust out the tools. 
 
I just love using the side mounting brackets when installing a deck. Makes installing so much easier. wish they had a DIN pocket or something that will mount to those brackets. oh well.

The sliding cup holder is a single din. It mounted  using the factory mounts, should fit Infiniti too. There is also a blank 1 din cover and a 1 din pocket tray for nissans.

plenty of good advie i bought the bose adapter and going to hook it up to my alpine when it gets here. went to walmart and didn't find the adapter.....

update...no cigar looks like i will have to do full rewire....

that is all well and great but what harness did you use?

you got a plug with leads coming off didnt you?  I just sat there with a multimeter and found out what wires did what and joined the cables.  

If you want i can take a photo if you like.  Im getting another y33 to replace the old one.  so when i rip the car apart to take my sounds out i can take a photo for you and tell you what colours are for what etc.

I spent forever trying to get my new Pioneer Avic F900bt to work correctly with my factory speakers and my aftermarket sub.  What i have to do is wire in a line level converter at the head unit to drop the level going to the factory amps.  From my research it looks like on the Y33 the bose has one amp for the rear speakers, which could be bypassed at the amp, but i think the front speakers have built in amps.  I wired in the line level converter and now everything works as it should.  Mine also has outputs for an amp but i am not using them.

So i pretty much did this and it works great.

man, bose is nothing but headaches it seems like.

LOL, it took me 15 to wire in my F90BT into my Y33. I'm using the stock Bose amplified system. Rewire is rediculous.

wow i just hope the f50 dont have problems with the bose system i know the main speaker cables in mine go to the tapee player so it might be alot easier just to replacee this cassette player unit and do an aftermarket radio .

what up everybody i just put a double din touch screen in my y33 and now it whistles when i drive. will changing all my speakers fix this?

check your grounds and all your connections first.

Sounds like alternator noise. I would try changing your ground. Usually you can tap into the aftermarket harness and use the ground from there. I had to do that with my B90FT. But I had to ground more than one wire, so this might not apply to you.
