At this time, What I have coming to me is the front and the rear bumper. I do have a couple of options
1. 
a. To have the indentation on the bumper evened by a good body shop to allow me to use my m45 stock grill and lights. 
b. To have a custom grill insert made by a good fiberglass fabricator to my specification to allow me to retain the original autech bumper shape  if i decide to do #2 below at a later time.

2.
To purchase a y34 autech grill and y34 lights and fit it in place of my m45 light and grill.

Whether I do 1 or 2 really depends on $$. The more money i can free up for other parts, the better it will be for me.
I will make changes as necessary as I have major plans for this car.

4/19/2008: Sideskirts Arrive

The sideskirts were the missing link to the Kit. After searching for months, I located a set.
Still awaiting arrival of Front and Rear kit. Decided against Using JDM headlights and autech grill. Decided to take the kit  to a body shop and have some work done on it to mod it into what i want below.

most confusing thread i've ever read but the pics are nice. love this car and autech is good stuff. did you decide what to do for the lights/grill? i recommend finishing out the conversion with jdm parts rather than modding the parts to fit usdm.

6/23/2008: Test Fit

front is in. no fogs. Had to take out the front impact bar to make it fit. Also had to snap the tabs around the grill to make it fit. Otherwise all else was a breeze.

I also took this opportunity to get rid of my splash guard. Damn thing keeps ripping because of how low am running the front.

9/03/2008:
Purchased some Halo projector foglights.

 I definately will not be taking any trophies home for quickest VIP build. I think its between Grant and pancakes!
Car will be going to the bodyshop sometime this month.

Definitely can't wait to see it built up!

Got some wheels 5Zigen Gravis-I  (2) 19x9.5 ( +25mm offset front) & (2) 20x9.5  ( +20mm offset rear) in polished finish. Will test fit and see if i like them. Test fit pics tommorow 9/14

Nice, interesting choice in wheels. I've always been a fan of them, but I haven't seen them used on a car like this. It will be interesting to see what the effect is.

 Finally Fitted my wheels. Overall am excited about it, thought i can bet you this will not be my final set of wheels.

The front fits nicely.
235/35/19 on a 9.5J offset 25.
The wheels barely cleared the strut by 3 mm or so.
I guess its safe to say that 9.5j/25offset fit a Y34. Eeh pokey!

The wheels rub on the outer fender. I need to have my fenders rolled to clear nicely.
I should have gone with 235/35/20 but I had a set of 245s in my storage. So these will do for now.
I had to drive mad slow from the wheel shop to avoid chopping up my wheels

he said hes gonna have a bodyshop rework the top portion to fit the usdm grill and headlights... on another note I think it looks so much better on how he intends to modify it, then the real grill and jdm headlight look

Hey bro, your already worthy! Grill or no grill, mods or no mods. Some of us have been drooling over that model for some time. Already a rare find and after your done even more so....bring it in and i'll be giving you a brew!:biggthumpup:

I wasnt sure what to think when I seen those rims but they fit the car pretty well.  Take care of that fender issue and get it alittle lower and it will look great :biggthumpup:

im a hardcore Toyota/Lexus fan.but lately,i'v been wanting a Y34.they look soo bad ass!yours is looking sick too.cant wait to see the transformation.

Got a call about my car late thursday. bodyshop running a little behind schedule.
Went by and took pics of the progress. The front bumper is about 80% done.
They are yet to repair the back bumper and extend/modify the valances. Worst case scenario, i pick the car up on saturday 11/8 then straight to the muffler shop to get some weldon muffler tips. 
I know some of you purists may not agree with me on muffler tips, but i love my cars stock sound. Quiet is the keyword so i wont be installing a fart can on mine.

I picked up the car from the AR autobody in palmdale  at 8pm today. All I can say is WOW! The car came out even better than I thought it would. Big up AR autobody again as they will definitely be getting more of my business, coz they certainly earned it.

Now, the stock muffler needs to be angled to fit the rear bumper, will be doing that at 8am tomorrow morning.

kit looks lighter than the rest of the car.

It does look lighter in the pics, but in person it looks perfect, and I definitely spotted some mis-matched panels on other cars there.  I can attest since we rolled for roughly 2 hours together from Autobacs, this car looks SICK on the road.  The quality of paint, the fit of the kit is right on point, and the wheels seem to really suit the car.  It looks great parked too.

I have yet to see a Y34 with a kit that matches in pictures.  I am sure the color is spot on in person.  And that car looks amazing!!

Body lines make the light reflect differently off of certain parts of a car.  You can really notice this on silver cars.

As for the paint match..there's several things it could be:

1. Plastic/urethane bumpers will always change color especially in metallic colors. The plastics have a static charge and the metallic paint will settle different than on the sheet metal parts, causing pigment flotation that will shift the color darker or lighter. 

2. Surface temperature, if the sheet metal is colder, the bumper will look lighter, if the sheet metal is hotter than the bumper, the color on the bumper will look darker. 

3. Flex additive. If the clearcoat is applied on the bumper with a flex additive, it will shift the color slightly.

isnt it a little vain to be snapping pics of your car around 60+ highly modified VIP cars. :)) 
To be honest, I did not snap any of mine during the meet coz of the crappy camera i had. So am waiting for people to post pics of my car. I saw a couple of people snap some front shots, so they will come about in due time.

sometimes you have to use a diffrent primer on plastic parts then on metal so it might reflex alil diffrent  but it is real common with toyotas i wish you didnt leave so soon i wanted to check out yah ride...im tring to talk my wife into getting one ....hinthint

Excuse my half ass write up. am toast after 12 hrs of excruciating work:

Big up Joe,Angel,GAbE and the whole eastside muffler crew for their patience and willingness to tackle whatever i threw at them, Without them this would not have been possible.

So as it is, the Jic coilovers needed a rebuild which is a headache since Jic does not rebuild older coilovers. Solution, Bilstein inserts. They are inverted monotube non adjustable. Since I will be going with air sus, i dint really care abt the adjustable part.

Sourcing the inserts were a headache and a half. It was back ordered and I had to wait nearly 8 weeks as it was in transit from Germany. Finally was able to cop a set. 

The bilstein outer casing were trimmed about 2inches. Also cut the internal bump stop for more travel. The bilstein fit snugly into the coilover housing.

So after the bilstein inserts were placed, the thingamawatchucallit red piece of crap could not fit as the hole was too small to sit flush so we had to fabricate a top mount. as u see its tack welded in for now.

 Apparently this was the most the shock assembly could go even with the bag out. The culprit?
the bilstein insert we used was about 3 inches taller than the stock jic insert. Scoll down for solution:

Yeap! sectioned the Jic coilvers! In brief, the mount point was a little higher, so to go lower we had to section out 3 inches off the strut body then reweld it back.

After all this. I would say that the y34 is a Pain in the arse to lower on the front. I feel for everyone who has tried this on their q45. As much as I was looking to go with air bags, the main goal was to do it the right way. Most of the stuff I have done on this car, came from research and a little of jumping off the edge of the cliff and crossing my fingers. If you can do the same, then go for it. Just be prepared for the excruciating anguish it will cause u, which will turn into major smiles once it comes out the way you want.

Apologies to kingpin for delaying the project as much as i did. Word of advice: Just get air runner. :)

well done. you should consider yourself a marter of the y34/f50 cause. i think with some refining based on your findings this could become the best option for m/q45 owners with the right abilities/resources. i have mentioned pretty much the exact proccess you went through before to people looking for less expensive options, hopefully your write up will help others.
 
what i would look into as far as refining the process:
 
1) stock y34/y32/y33/f50 spindles. at this point of custom i see no point in coilovers, save yourself some $$$. alternatively, this process could be duplicated without the bags and with the addition of sleeve coilovers (gc for example) for those not wanting to spend coilover money but wanting an adjustable height spring suspension.
 
2) shorter inserts from another model. ~equal to the amount of drop desired for proper(ish) suspension travel.

Great work, I wish I could have found out which Koni inserts we used on mine!  I still wish I would have cut out 2" from the bottom like you did and now that I see it I am pissed I didn't.  Congrats

A huge amount of work!!  Well done for seeing it through to completion despite some major challenges.  

It is tempting to start from scratch with GC coilover sleeves and my JP springs on my stock spindles.  Or be lazy and just bite the bullet on true coilovers or Air Runner for F50.

Back from the technical appearance I made from the AF meet. 
Apologies for everyone I did not get to meet. I had a short window of time and an international flight to catch. Going to africa to shoot lions and shit.The official first day of my vacation has started. Currently writing this from the terminal at LAX.

I test drove the car for 400 miles round trip and the suspension is very very solid. Really feels like am riding on very stiff coilovers. I had it aired up to about 55-60 psi which gives me about one finger gap and the car never bottomed out even once. without the front sway bar, It still handled like a champ. The sway bar will be going back on there once I locate some shorter end links.  This is one solid piece of suspension.

As much as solid as this suspension is, there is always room for improvement. Call me mr. overkill: Coz really thats who I am. I am very anal about what i want and how i want it and will go to lengths to get it :)....now onto phase 2.

With UAS airbag over coilover setup, the bottom of the bag usually rests on the interlocking nuts that are used to adjust the height.  What i noticed is that certain dips and humps were enough to cause a little squeek or bump on the suspension setup. Nothing too big though, very very minor.

The second issue with such a setup is if you were to notch the locking nuts and decided to move your suspension up an inch, the notched part would pretty much not be aligned any more unless you go a full thread down or up (360). In a genre where every inch counts, this is more of a no no. 

Third issue comes where, when you jack up the car and remove a wheel, you have to be absolutely careful that the bag does not shift position as u can end up snipping lines and damaging stuff. 

The solution is still in the works. More towards creating a CNC bottom bracket similar to bagyards/mason tech that is machined and can be threaded up and down the strut body. The bracket would be bolted onto the bottom of the bag and would replace the stock threaded nuts that came with the JIC setup. That will give me is a static position for the UAS bag. See pic

Bagyard Bombers.

The only issue i have to work around is the airline fitting/hole on the bag. I have  a couple of ideas in mind, and will wait to see what the best option is.

Note, that I suggested to kingpin to get air runner instead. The process I have gone through to get this to work is not for the faint of heart, and pocket. The reason behind me going the route that I did is to make it easier to get replacement parts locally without much of a wait as in the case of AR, which at minimum will have about 4-8 weeks for a rebuild.

Bolton kits are great for those who just want a kit thats preety much plug and play. Either get that, or you will spend the money in labor. Note that I spent 12 hrs yesterday working on this with my tech. Not to mention the consultation, R&D time etc etc.

The only pitfall on this would be reusing the stock tophat. It sticks out a little too much and is a headache and a half to get low on it. when i get back, I will post pics of what mr mark/actolex had to do on his to get lower.

I will also be looking to go lower in the front. Goodbye fender lining and Internal bump stop on the inserts. That will give me the .5 inch i need for the rim to kiss fender.

if you have an inch or so (height of the 90* fitting) between the spring perch and lower lock collar you can just use the piece of pipe that came with the uas kit as a spacer rather than nothcing the perch. i notched my collar when i setup my old uas over jic setup as well but later realized i didn't need to.
 
i also wonder if the upper mount pattern is cross compatible with any other nissan suspension. a few companies make pillowball upper mounts that might work (possibly with modification).

explained:

PLAN A:

weld (1.A) Stock Coilover perch that ships with the UAS kit onto (2) which is a steel section threaded to Jic coilover specs.
Bottom perch (3) would then be threaded up to maintain a static position of the Bag at all times.

PLAN B: 

CNC machined aluminum perch (1.B) with the inner section threaded to Jic coilover specs. Bottom perch (3) would then be threaded up to maintain a static position of the Bag at all times.

Functionality wise, they will all work the same. B will be more expensive than A but what the heck.
Cant wait to get back to work on this.

BTW, I do have 2 pair or stock spindles laying around that I MIGHT use to create a couple of sets for some lucky few.

i will push them out further by adjusting the camber on them. Right now its at max camber up front. am still sorting out some stuff. after which i will have the final stance

am running a 19/20 combo and liked the rake look. i never knew my ride height with no finger gap all round was that high till i dropped the front all the way down. lol. I left it parked like that outside my driveway all day. my neighbour says lots of people stopped by to take pics.

I have done measurements, and this will not work for me based on the fact that my bumper is shaped a little different than yours. The indentation between the fogs is pushed a little inside. Still a good idea tho, am considering this still, maybe with a slim 2/3 gal tank

Check again.....the tank did not even come close to the bumper.  The best part was that my whole system...tank, compressors, lines, switches, were all hidden.  Nothing from the system was visable.

putting the tank in the frontbumber is not a bad idea for show cars BUT eyedea car is a daily ..i will never put a full tank of air in the front bumber in case of a crash ..
 
i will make that trunk space work becuase its a lot safer tucked under the sub woofer ..=)

Note that we have a very small trunk, you might have to utilize all the space you can get in your trunk. I have the small 3 gal tank in the pic. You might not be able to get away with a bigger tank and have trunk space.

I am either going to go with a 3 gallon hidden somewhere or the pancake. The things I don't like about the front bumper are that it could be really bad in a crash and if there is an issue getting to it to check it out will be a major pain in the ass.

From what I see the pancake should fit in the spare area no problem.

Yeah, that whole idea of putting the tank up front sounds extremely unsafe. In an accident, that thing will explode like a bomb, sending shards of metal flying everywhere. Could hit drivers, passengers of both cars, or even pedestrians if they're near by. 

Interested to see how the Benz lights will look on here, should be some good stuff though

We run super stretched tires, totally remove our crash guards, run ridiculous camber, run so low you can't roll over a speed bump......these are not exactly DOT approved, are they?

I have 2 bombs in my trunk aswell ... so i know its all the same lol

And I could tell its behind the metal bumper. But there are accidents where you'll see radiators pushed up into the engine. If that could happen, that tank could explode. Figure there are approx ~100psi of air in there.
And yeah nothing about our cars is DOT approved. I'm just saying that don't look safe. I'm not trying to make you or anyone change that. 
People always tell me my sh!t is too low and should go higher, but that means nothin to me. To be honest, id like for it to be lower than it currently is, but I struggle enough, and don't want to make more trouble for myself
