#185194Shaved off 4 mils from my wheels
So I bought these 19" Work Euroline's from a fellow VIP-er here in WA (T.K.O.) a couple months back for my black '98 Lexus GS300, and for a variety of reasons haven't mounted them to my car yet. One wheel was slightly bent and I wanted to repair that first, but I also wanted to increase the offset on the rear wheels a little bit to clear the fenders. The specs on the rears are 19x10 +8 offset and the rear lips are almost 5"! T.K.O. had shaved the inner fenders but they still rubbed a little bit, and he also has an air setup which looks too damn sexay! Unfortunately, I can't afford an Airrunner setup for a while and will be riding on Tein CSv1 coilovers instead. Since these aren't multi-piece wheels, a friend suggested I may be able to eliminate the rubbing in the rear if I take them to a reputable machine shop to have them shave a few mil off the inside backing (where the wheel mates to the hub). I was hoping they could shave off 7 mils but they said 4 mils was as much as they'd recommend w/o affecting the structural integrity of the wheel....any more and it could negatively affect the taper of the bolt holes i.e. the wheel could shear off a bolt and serious problems could occur.
So I'm assuming the offset will now be +12, correct? My hope is they'll be completely flush now when I mount up my 235/35's on there. However, with the summer pretty much finished here in Seattle, I think I'll wait until next spring to mount them. Heck, I've had my TEIN's sitting in storage since April '07 and my Tanabe exhaust sitting since May....what's a few more months of waiting!! :pat:
Stay tuned....
