How to make coilovers go lower?

I have JIC coilovers on my G50 and I have adjusted them all the way down and I still can't get the stance I want since I'm rollin on 245/35/20 in the rear.  So what I want to know is if I can adjust the spring to go lower or will that fuck up my ride quality a lot?

is your coilover full threaded? That's an option if it is.

Alternately, is there helper springs in there? Take em out and you can go lower alil...

I've also seen in VIP mags that the Japanese cut the coils for them to go lower?

Hardly ever cut. Mostly just swap the springs for shorter items (Swift is a popular brand)
 
If you do get shorter springs, make sure you cut your bumpstops so you can get lower without riding on the bumps

Are there coilover springs that goes shorter than 4"?

yea somethng about this isnt right ... I see from the Sig those only get like 2 inches down ...

on my car i havent even tried to max them out ... all i remember is when i first put them on and lowered to where i wanted it .. i couldnt drive anywhere ... id bottom out on everything

you should be adjusting from the bottom bracket. not the spring perch

which is what I did, I am asking is it safe to adjust it at the spring perch to get lower

edit:  I did some reading and it is not reccomended adjust the spring but I think I might be able to work on my problem this afternoon.

should everything be set up correctly, your best option would be custom springs.

Try maxing out both the top and bottom perch. That should do the trick. But do be warned that when the car is jacked up, the spring will unseat itself.

I am not buying custom springs since I will be going air next year, why waste the money.  for now I am going to adjust the spring perch and hope the dampeners don't bottom out (which shouldn't have the same effect as shorter springs right?)

Nope, lowering the top spring perch too low will have the same effect of shorter springs. To lesser the chance of bottoming out, a harder spring is needed (not sure how hard is yours and what spec is needed for G50 though), provided it isn't lowered too much to the extent of resting on the bumpstop though.

to elaborate on what kaizer said:

the proper way to adjust length adjustable coilovers is to snug the lower spring perch on the spring and raising the bottom bracket. i haven't checked out g50 jics yet but i'm guessing the issue is that because of the fittings on the bottom of the strut the bracket won't go that high. your next option is to do like you say and lower the spring but it will shorten your suspension travel because the damper will always be under load.

i maxed out the shock adjustment on mine..and i had to adjust from the spring a little in the rear to achieve the height i wanted

If there are two collars you can remove one.

just to see, i adjusted the spring perch as far down as it will go and only got like 1/4 in.

idk what to do, im thinking maybe 20'' wheels are the problem, they are just too tall

I don't think so. If you're talking about the distance between the floor and your undercarriage, yeah, using a really oversized wheel will increase the gap.

But in this case, it's the fender gap (between wheels and fenderline). Using an oversized wheels will only tuck more tires/wheels, but in your case there are still obvious gap in between. Using a smaller wheel/tire combo will only worsen the scenario.

Yea I understand, that stuff always confuses me :shrug:

I called JIC and they couldn't offer me any suggestions besides shorter springs :pat:
