Crystal Clear UCF10 tail light mod

Got bored one night so I stuck my tail lights in the oven to take them apart and see what I could modify inside them. If you take out all the reflectors, its pretty much crystal clear, but it looks pretty ugly to me. So I decided to just remove the reflector plastic from the middle row of lights... just something a little subtle/different.

Crystal clear... looks ok in these pics, but when you bolt up the bulb housings back on it looks like butt.

The reflectors for the outer tail lights are 1 giant piece, so I had to use my band saw to cut it into 3 slits, so that i can get rid of the center one.

The center tail light reflectors are also 1 piece, and to cut the middle out you have to cut it like I did in the pic...

Stock compared to finished modified version. Like I said, nothing very special, just a subtle/minor change...

how do they look at night with the lights on ?

The signals are pretty damn bright since the light isnt diffused by the reflector anymore. Almost blindingly bright.... =)=)=)

swap em to LED's

your car is always improving looks good! Who else makes clear tails other than Hiltop? they have gone out of business

Its a nice little chage to stand out and save money ;) 
 
I would put all led bulbs in there to make it stand out more ... and looks great too .. refer to brandicus tail lights pretty sick

Hey do you have the clear diffusers still? would you want to sell them. I think they would work out perfect for a project im working on.

Yea I've been thinking of getting LED bulbs, or building LED panels and baking my lights again to put them in. Its just SOOOO much work... but I might do it in the near future, I have all the supplies i need for it besides the LED's. Time to break out the etching tub =) 

Or if I'm too lazy to build it, I was thinking of buying UCF20 LED tail lights, then baking the housing and taking it apart, but to use the LED boards and adapt them to UCF10 tail lights since the dimensions are kind of close...

Damn that sux.
 
Well anyone else planning on doing this hit me up and ill buy the diffusers.

When I had my LS400 we experimented with removing the reflectors as well. It looked ok, then we painted the inside a dark smoke color, which made them look better. Your's looks good as well, never thought of that.

Damn thats crazy looks cool and all but I think you must have to much free time to do all that I wonder if that clispe gets pulled over alot?. I like how the taillights came out on the LS I agree it's different but it looks good.

Haha, I'll take pics of it soon guys. Just been waiting to get all my parts in and install them. Then wash and wax my car and take new pics. I'm probably doing most of it this weekend since the October 11th meet is 1 week away =)

that eclipse is owned by a guy named dave. he's a mod on hidplanet forums. i believe all that is chip controlled and that's the demo setting. crazy amount of work (he has a build thread).

those ucf10 lights look mad easy for an led conversion. if you need somebody to do it for you let me know. i got bricks of superflux leds as well.

I know someone in LB that does it from his pad. Was thinking of doing it on my oem tails. 

Dunno what he charges, he's a homie, so It would be free labor for me :P

Imma meet up with him @ our next car club meet. This month. I have my OEM in my garage and the red/white on my car. I'll have him do the one in the garage and sell it here on the forum. If someone wants the red/white done, I can give a price once he does mine....

I'm interested in getting my RCR tails done. Just depends on the price and how good his work is. Please post pics as soon as you get yours done.

$400 range. thats all genuine lumiled superflux leds and pwm brake/marker/signal control. pm me for more info, as to end the jacking  of this thread.
