Things to look out for when buying a used Y33?

i hope this is in the right  forum .
 
So during winter i'll be saving up and looking for a Y33. used obviously. so far i haven't found one with less than 70K miles. i was just wondering if you Y33 guys out there knew what to look out for as far as what needs replacing, what parts are prone to failure at that mileage/age. basic maintenance costs, are they dependable, does the engine last long if properly maintained (never had a V8 engine before, especially a high mileage one =/ ). just stuff like that.
 
oh and i'm in the Chicago area so snow and salt might affect certain part longevity/dependability .

If you have any specific Q's just shoot me a PM the Y33 is a solid chassis all around.  Different things wear differetnly on different cars depending on how they are driven/modified.

watch out for your alternator!!!!!! haha.

Yeah, just look to see service records.  As long as it's always been serviced as scheduled, you should have no problems.  I had to replace my Alt  at around 90k, O2 sens at 76k, and tension rod bushings when I did suspension. Otherwise, 4.5 years of love

knock sensors, alternator, front tension rods, transmission sensor leak (requires removal of transmission) power steering pump and high pressure ps line

knock sensors, alternator, replace valve cover gaskets pretty much the same as the other y33 owners

golfkid, i'll send ya a PM tomorrow. since my home internet is down, and my work internet acts all weird when i try to PM.

Let the car run for about 4 or 5 minutes. if while your sitting (or even if while driving) you get a shutter in the whole car, that means the coils or going out. The worse the shutter the sooner they will need replaced and they are NOT cheap... I've been told its common on Y33's after alot of miles. you should be fine in the 70K range, but if you ook at any ones with more miles take notice.

if they let you, take it to a infinity\nissan dealership and have them inspect it!

Mine is at 91K and so far the things that have gone out is the driver side rear 02 sensor. Belts are going out. Driver side power seat motor had some problems. I had to remove the seat and tighten some bolts. Thats all after one year of ownership. You will probably have to do all the general maintenance stuff. I think spark plug intervals are for 85 or 90K so it might still have the original ones. Most of the misc stuff on my car had to be replaced because it was out or going out soon after i bought my car. Keep that mind to try to lower the price a little to compesate for stuff like gas, air, oil, and in cabin filter, wipers, belts, fluids, brakes, bulbs. THe general public overlook simple things like that.

hahahahaha i can vouch for the alternator now XD

the only thing that's failed on mine so far (i've owned it since about 80k, i have almost 130k on it now) was something related to the variable valve timing. since the dealer took care of it under infiniti's CPO warranty, i can't be more specific. this car's been really reliable.

the other thing is the undertray is coming off, but i attribute that to the fact that i scrape everywhere, haha.

i guess what everybody is saying is just to not buy one if you cant afford to fix it

62K and the O2 sensor as of right now but I know the MAF will go and belts around 75 to 80k

my rear o2's went or are going out, at least thats what my service engine light is saying. im at 121k so its no surprise. but what does suck is i just bought the car last weekend
