coming up next: jaguar xjr or lexus ls460 SWB?

ladies and gentlemen,
i'm considering getting a new car, and my choices are 07+ LS460 SWB or 08+ XJR.

i've been thinking about it a while and my head and my heart are duking it out.

the LS is more technologically advanced (i can play DVD-A and power close the trunk!) but no matter how i order it, 4-zone climate and rear seat entertainment are absolutely unavailable.

the XJR, on the other hand, is much more... british, which appeals to me. plus, i can get 4-zone climate and RSE. the problem is, the car's a few generations behind in the toys department (no soft-close doors, no keyless ignition, no adjustable rear seats, no power trunk closer) and there's absolutely no aftermarket support (other than perhaps arden and loder1899 and j-complete), but somehow, i just really want one. it's more emotional than the lexus, and i think it would look better with less total mods. oh, and it's really hard to find a used one, and since they've been out for less time, they cost more (quite a bit more, in fact).

what do you guys think? jag or lex?

+1 on the jag

i'm a tech at land rover and we share the shop with jag. that being said.. haha. imo, save some money and just the get vanden plas instead of the xjr.
to be honest... besides the engine, theres not much difference thats worth the almost $10k price difference. just the minor susp upgrade, brakes and wheels. spend the 10 grand on some good fitting, worthy wheels and get the lowering kit from jcomplete. hahaha.

plus the interior difference between the ls460 and the vanden plas....incomparable. i mean, i havent actually been inside of an ls460 but i can't imagine the ls460 being better. vanden plas screams luxury. lambswool rugs, rear ent like you said, and the woodgrain. you need to go sit in one. haha.

plus the vanden plas is like the ls600 rather than the 460 with the long wheelbase and all.

as you might see i've thought about this before. the '08+ xj is my dream car. haha.

just my .02

The ONLY reasons I would consider a LS460 (SWB or LWB) over a XJ would be resale value, cost of ownership and reliabilty. I just can't get myself to really like the LS460. Although the build quality is there, its just not as refined as the Jag.

wowowowowow

long wheelbase won't fit in my garage; my current Y33 barely fits now :(

i would prefer to have the supercharged..... just cause ;)

and one more thing, the switchgear and overall trim in the xjr isn't as good as the ls460. the fit, finish, plastic quality, and attention to detail is much better in the ls.

so i'm still stuck, hahaha. i think i'm going to go to the dealer next week and test drive both cars again (i've driven ls460, 600h, and base xj, but no xjr yet) before i make a decision.

thanks!

New LS460!!! or actually i would get a 460L way worth it!.

Coming from a LS460L I love it! only thing is that the engine gets a little loud because they changed it to a timing chain instead of belt.

after owning a newer jag, id have to say go lexus. reliability and service cant be beat. i love jags to death but their resale value, build quality, reliability, and customer service are terrible. or as frank caliendo playing sir charles says... "thats just TERBLE, terble terble they a bunch of knuckleheads"

when i recently sold my car, the new owner took it to the dealer for their 150 point checkup n it passed!! flying colors (they charged like $250?). i had at least 5 or 10 big problems on it. had tranny and electrical problems along with oil leaking out of the valve covers (had those changed after the inspection, but they didnt even notice) just to name a few. they are a bunch of monkeys dressed up nice to rob your money. and with the economy the way it is i forsee their resale value going even lower. stick with lexus and in the long run youd save some scripts. although itll take more mods to make it as stylish as a jag xjr.
