Powdercoating Help

I am considering on getting my calipers powdercoated. I found a place near where I live. They told me that they would have to take the 2 piece calipers apart, sandblast, mask holes and then powdercoated. They even said they will rebuild my calipers afterwards. But the price is really high for them to do it. So I decided to find a way to DIY.[IMG]http://clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif[/IMG] 
I already taken out all the seals and its gutted. I just need to take the 2 piece calipers apart. I own an IS300 and my calipers are cast iron[IMG]http://clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/sad.gif[/IMG] 

Do I sandblast my calipers before taking them apart? 
Then how do I mask off the area's that needs to be masked. I heard of some kind of foil. Is that aluminum foil...lol[IMG]http://clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/1387914497.gif[/IMG] 
If I get the powdercoating equipment. Can I bake it in my oven, would that be safe?

- No, its not safe to bake in your home oven LoL!! 
- There are masking tapes made for powdercoating
- always take stuff apart before sand blasting. Just be sure to leave clearance for the parts to go back together.
 
 
ya know, the newer caliper paint systems on the market have really good results. they're self leveling, vibrant colors,etc,etc...

you need to leave this one to the professionals. if the price is high shop around.

you  can also buy pre-powder coated, rebuilt calipers from nht, but they're not cheap either.

paint is another option but personally i prefer coating.

I have G2 red paint on my calipers, but its chipping. I have had it on for 2 yrs now, it did the job, but I dont feel like repainting it. I rather powdercoat and forget about it. Im looking for something that will closely match the color of my car, which is SY. 
 
I am definitely leaving the coating part to the pro's, but rather at least cut the price down a little, by doing simple stuff by myself. Taking it apart, sandblasting and maybe masking. Sounds simple enough..lol

take it apart....But Let them sand blast it. Powdercoating (and caliper painting) is like a paint job...its only as good as the prep work under it. 
 
You'll end up filing sum down to re-fit the pieces but it shouldnt be too hard. 
 
also, u do know that G2 has all new stuff this year? They sent me a full kit to sample for 'free':biggthumpup:

This is what I have done so far to my calipers.   There were 1 bump and 3 angles along the width of the caliper.  Belt and electric sanded it down to be rounded.
