What are the cons of it?

dunno about the cons but i think if you do this... rock chips wouldn't be much of a problem being that it's basically a clear bra going over your front bumper

thats pretty dope, but I wanna know what kind of cons there are to this.  Man you could literally wrap your car in a differant color every month if you wanted to.

Funny, I was just thinking about this... saw a show on BBC America and they did a lotus with the British flag and it come out great...

Cons are not being to do jambs, bay, stuff like that. And maybe not as shiny as a real paintjob can be - no fancy deep metallics 'n such. Limited lifespan too.

Not sure if you would consider it a con, but it probably cost as much as a paint job.

depending on the quality of vinyl you get, it can be almost perfect compared to paint.

they even have custom painted vinyls that have pearl effect as well. you could also wash and wax to remove swirls as well.




biggest PRO i would say is that when you are rready to sell the car, the paint would look immaculate.



oh just thought of a con. if you hit something really small even, it would look weird/hard to cover just a small portion.

its expensive, and its not meant to stay on there forever.  the colors dont last that long either

the price of a full digital wrap is more than a paint job.  the price of a full regular wrap is about the same as a paint job.  also you dont get that mirror finish, and the vinyl does looked stressed where it is stretched a lot.

you can do the jams, but you place a seem about 1/2" from the fold of the metal edge.

and you can wax it.

so simple yet so genius. wonder what the cost is like...

I wanted to body wrap my Mirage in Jungle camo. But if it costs the same or more than a good paintjob, then I will just have to rattle can it. Shame.

This is old news.  It's been done for years now on various race cars and show cars.  Lots of drift guys did their whole cars in crazy metallics and what not.  Some of you may remember Hayashida's RS-R S14.  Under that white/red/black is his regular metallic green paint job.

Yeah, if it costs the same as a paint job (which I believe), might as well get a paintjob, unless you're specifically doing something temporary like a race livery, or you just couldn't get that rental Sebring in blue :D

unless your a frivilous bastard who feels like one color one week and another the next and cant wait for prep then paint :P

a full digital wrap normally is around 3k. so a non digital one should be like 2500

although many of the cons have been covered, there is one that hasn't really been mentioned.  from the people I have talked to and heard from, if you do remove the vinyl, there is a ton of sticky residue left from the adhesive.  have fun with that.  

I have personally been considering this route, how ever, my tastes have since changed, and i think paint is the way to go.

YUP!! That would pretty much just melt right off the car here in Arizona within the dead of summer. That, or it would dry up, peel off or simply turn a different color from the heat here.
 
Now, just to cover the front bumper, front portion of the hood and fenders, maybe even the side skirts and door panels to prevent road crap from chipping the paint, great idea. However a whole car...I'll pass.

as long as you dont leave the stuff on for too long itll come off fine.  i would say 12 months is good.  wouldnt try to go any longer.  as long as the film isnt metallic it should peel off fine w/o any residue

Yeah, in person the finish looks "fuzzy" (not glossy) and has a bit of an orange peel texture to it.

You can't beat the gloss and depth of a killer paint job.

wrap material which is meant to be digitally printed on is more expensive, but if youre doing a flat color its not that bad.  youre paying for the labor of a pro to put it on without scratching your existing paint

Bimmers are known for vinyling their cars. I've even seen some flat black ones on their forum.
