How strict is your region aftermarket laws?

For us we could only do exterior design but other than that you have to have permission and it illegal to do it even if it only air filter as rumours has it.

but usally they police stop Nissan Patrol and LandCrusiers Standard drivers.

I think California is the worst here in the USA. Ive taken my SC400 with rear mounted turbo there a couple times and would get he dirtiest looks from cops....they couldnt do anything because im from Washington state. 
 
oh, you can see the turbo and piping hanging down from the rear of the car...and sounds crazy at freeway speeds :smiley-rofl:

In 4x4 there are many monsters.

There is a drag race on a sandy hill.

But we have to renew the car every year and it would be hard to keep that from the cops. 4x4 Nissan and Stations are what they call it attracts cops.

But I know my friend who upgraded his 300c.

You dont wanna make alot of trouble and headache from the police is enough with the dealer and warranty stuff going on.

But the weirdest thing there is alot of very powerful cars on the road like the Merc AMG, Lambos, SLR,...etc and even once I seen a limited edition Buggy Veron.  

There is one dealer which sold 3 Enzos or so and I dont know how many limited ultra-super car there is in the market.

Yup, California pretty much sucks for aftermarket laws.  One of the major factors on why I didn't get another "performance" type car, having the hide the turbo and make fake covers for everything just became a pain in the butt.

Also another major reason I want Air suspension on the benz, My prelude was on coil-overs and I actually got a ticket for it being too low...

Basically if you do anything to increase performance or make it even LOOK like your increasing preformance cops in cali will give you dirty looks.  Im fairly certain even having A pillar gauges gives the cops grounds to search your car for other performance mods.

no, thats not true. they used to have california edition cars which had stricter emission constraints but thats over.
Florida doesnt have laws, they do but nothing like anywhere else. i ran 2.5% tint for a couple of years on one of my cars and never got hassled. that and no inspections or emissions laws other than federal.

We don't have 'down tuned' cars, just emissions equipment, that if removed, makes the car a 'gross polluter' and you get failed, and can be fined/jail time for stuff like cat converters.

Hawaii is pretty bad too. We got a thing called a safety inspection. They check that all your lights are working properly, horn works, tires got enough tread on it, tint can't be any darker than 30%. On top of that, if your car is lowered, you can't pass the safety inspection without a recon permit. Recon laws have calmed down over the year, now only consists or altered suspension- it used to be for aftermarket exhaust, rims 2" or more over stock.  To pass it, you gotta have like 1-2" of suspension travel, within 30 days of recon inspection a vehicle alignment. You also can't have clear corners, HID's are illegal if your car didn't come stock with them. If your exhaust is crazy loud you can get pulled over and ticketed for excessive noise, if your tint is below 30%, you get a $200 ticket for every window that's tinted, yup $200! Can't have any stickers on any of the windows, but people still do and don't get bothered.   People hate recon here in hawaii. Its so bad, shops give illegal safety checks, regular safety costs about $15, illegal ones start at about $100. But if the guy that gave you the illegal safety check gets caught, its a $1000 fine... its so bad now if a cop pulls you over no recon, he can strip your safety check off your car, tell you to call a tow truck to tow your car home cuz you aint driving it... its a big hassle, to me recon is just another way to tax money cuz its so expensive to live in hawaii.   So in conclusion, hawaii vehicle laws suck a$$... what's really stupid is hawaii is a state, we got 8 islands, the island I live on is the only island with this recon law... that's what pisses off a lot of car guys here. On the outer islands, as long as you can pass a safety inspection, lights, horn, tires.... you can do anything to your car..... we don't even have smog...

Swapped engines are okay, the only rules for suspension are that nothing can be lower than the wheel, and you can't do shit like cut or compress springs.
You can get a ticket for excessive noise though

The rest is all pretty standard stuff, like the colour of lamps, safety equipment, that sort of thing.

Worst rule we had was nationally Canada had a stricter bumper law than the US, so we missed out on a lot of cars, like the Evos previous to 10, the MR-S, the GTO, and a few others. Since that was changed earlier this year, it's pretty much game on!

Australia is different depending on state. here in WA, the laws are pretty strict and the cops dont know the rules most of the time. also the rules change and stuff but noone knows and so you can just about get done for any version of the rule, new or old if thats all they know.
 
for example your car can't be too low, it has to be at least 100mm to the lowest point, but on top of that you cant have any part of the tyre under the guards and you cant have any reflective part of the headlights lower than 60mm. Those are basically 3 versions of the 'too low' rule but you can get done on any of them or a combination.
 
then with wheels, you cant go more then 2 sizes bigger, recently it changed to be a multiplication of what is fitted standard, but most people still go by 2 sizes bigger. Also you cant go wider than 8" and you cant increase track by more than 25mm total. So that rules out wide wheels and lowering your offsets. You obviously cant stretch tyres and have to have load ratings as per your tyre placard.
 
Coilovers are technically illegal since you arent realy allowed adjustable suspension but as long as they're quite soft then they can pass (Also obviously at the right height). airbags are illegal unless you go through a very costly engineering process, and to get them legal on your car the height cannot be adjustable whilst the vehicle is in Drive and the controller must be completely out of the drivers reach e.g. mounted in glovebox or similar.
 
you cant have an exhaust too loud, but cops dont measure it they just say they think it is too loud. Turbos etc can be fitted aftermarket but have to be engineer approved. mods like intercoolers, bigger turbo etc are generally frowned upon but you get away with. 
 
Aftermarket steering wheels and gauges on the pillar are illegal and need permits. To get a permit you go over the pits which costs like $50AU then the permit is about $50AU and you get a few things on it. even with it though, cops generally will pick something/anything they *think* is illegal to defect you if they want to.

NY isnt to crazy strict wit the laws well at least on long island.  cops wont really do anythin if u have a loud exhaust or stuff like that unless ur driving like an idiot and causin 2 much attention.  tint isnt bad, you wont get pulled over because of ur tint over here but if u get pulled over for somethin else then the cops will sometimes bust ur balls about it.  i have 15% all around and iv gotten pulled over 4 stupid shit and the cops havent said one word about my tints (knock on wook).  iv had my system crancked up and that didnt even turn the cops head(knock on wook. but cops do enforce the whole front licence plate law tho.  so thats long island ny).

I have family over in Chicago and over there their laws r madd strict .  u cant have any tint what so ever on ur front windows or cops will actually pull u over and give u shit.  same goes 4 sound systems, cops will pull you over for playin ur music 2 loud.  and u only have around a 5-10  mph cushion tops wit the speed limit over there,  where over here on long island u have like a 10-15 mph cushion

so thats what i got for long island ny and chicago

around my town if you drive a honda, 240, evo, or any wrx you are screwed.

California = performance aftermarket naziis, unless of course you're keen to stamping n welding CARB EO plates to you're parts =)

WA really isn't too bad, for the most part. If you keep it clean and subtle, you should be alright. There are a few tint and front plate tickets doled out, but it's not that commonplace.
