Any way to run foglights w/o headlights?

I want the fogs to come on independently of the headlights. Any way to do this?

There is a way to bypass the fuse, once you figure it out you can do it to any car. If you by chance know any Highly Skilled stereo installers around(usually the head techs) They can do this pretty simple.

easy wire the fogligts trigger to the corner lamps makes for a real easy on with foglights running with the corner lamps...

^what he said. jump the fog relay to the corner light relay. not completely independent but close enough.

im planning on running them to a switch, its better if you use hid fogs cause you have the option of turning them off while everything else is on. where as when its wired to the corner lamps its not very independent. idk just my opinion. i can run them independently in certain areas without any other lights on or i can flip them off when i come across a bunch of cops. mostly cause i wont have a cutoff shield on my fogs and it will most likely be blinding to others. to others with projector fogs they shouldnt have as many problems.

On some cars (both of mine) they can be run separate from the factory. Only certain cars are that way. But there's many solutions as you've heard already. Just depends on if you want an easy solution or a specific one.

i was thinking if there was a way where you can reverse the headlight and the fog light switches, so that if the orginal headlight switch was full on, it would be only the fog lights on, and if you wanted the headlights to turn on, then you just switch on the original fog light swtich. do i make sense to anyone? that would keep the factory look without any hidden switches or anything. otherwise, from my understanding, its just tapping the parking light 12v to the foglight relay witch in the fuse box... but then again... i dont know anything about wiring for the y33, i just drive it. so bad so sad.

I like the idea of connecting them to the side markers. I think I'll give that a try.

that's an interesting solution, not sure how exactly you would do it and if the stock wiring would be ok for the switched amperage though. might be as simple as switching the fog/headlight relay inputs.

Yea their used to be a write up on G20.net , now its only for sponsors. But yes tapping into the fog light relay and then into your side markers will turn them on with the parking lights. I did it on my P11 with the parking lights and fog lights. looked good!

I've done this to my old Maxima. The Y33 htough seems to have a different relay setup. After realizing so I just gave up on the idea of independent fogs. If you guys figure out a simple solution to run them independently utilizing the factory switch, please post it.

I'm not sure if my Y33 is the same, but I would assume most cars are like this....

On my prelude, two wires run from the headlight circuit to the foglight relay and back out. I cut them halfway (coming from the headlights) , joined the two wires from the headlights so that the circuit was still there, and then joined the input wires for the relay and tapped 12v coming from one of the interior lights (in my case the ashtray) so that the relay activated when the parking lights were on. You retain use of your factory switch this way - the only difference is that you don't have to have your headlights on. They still turn off with the high beams on also.

edit: looking at page EL-100 of the FSM this seems to be the case with the Y33 as well, but I've never looked at the layout under the dash so I don't know how difficult it is to get to everything.....

I had to edit since my first post was wrong.
Ground is provide to the fog light switch (Y/B wire) by the headlight combo switch.
The Y/B wire to the fog switch should be ground directly to the chassis, so the fogs would work independently from headlights.

I am going study the schematic some more. I am not sure if the G wire from the fog relay has to be rewired.

If you use relays with a switch or (like I have mine) off of parking lights... I can send you a step by step of how to if you want.. Let me know

I'm trying to keep the use of the factory fog light switch. I do not want to add other switch for the fogs. I tried re grounding the fog light switch , it did not work. Back to the drawing board. There is link to the FSM on NICO if anybody else wants to figure it out. I'll keep trying. http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Q45/
