101 help needed

I think the tanks spread apart would be the best options. You might consider lining the bottem with dynamat as well as the underside of your "trap door" before you cover it. Another thing you might consider is picking up some 5" or so cooling fans from radioshack, since the compressors will be covered you won't see them and it will help keep the air flowing.
One more thing... is there any way to mount the compressors somwhere under the car? like maybe up in the quarter panel somewhere? Ofcourse teh only problem with that setup it will be loud outside of the car...with them in the trunk maybe the noise wont be too bad inside or out...
NOW PERSONALLY IF IT WERE MINE....when it comes time to do my fuga..(that i don't have yet, goin this weekend hopefull...lol) I will be looking into running compressed air or nitrogen. with a regulator...and possibly a compressor wired into the system for backup, i just can't stand the noise of compressors running. idk, just food for thought, goodluck with your setup.
