here we go...soccer Moms and guns

Lebanon, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania soccer mom who packs a pistol is getting her concealed weapon permit back.

Meleanie Hain on Tuesday persuaded a Lebanon County judge to rescind the sheriff's revocation of her permit.

She had lost the permit after other parents complained last month that she was carrying her loaded handgun in a holster at her daughter's soccer game.

Judge Robert Eby says even though the law required him to give her the permit back, he questioned whether Hain showed good judgment by ignoring other parents' safety concerns.
Hain says she's satisfied with the result and expects she'll be back on the sidelines with her gun in the future.

- The Associated Press.

Noooo, you see you got it all wrong! She's got the gun to PROTECT everyone from another crazy person! LOL at the weakest argument by NRA nutswingers that somehow works, yet it doesn't ever happen in reality. They say you can protect yourself if you're armed, that shit almost never happens.

Just be glad you're not in Arizona, practially anyone can carry a weapon out in the open.

They saw it because she had bent over or something and someone saw it.

The Sheriff was asked by a former judge or something to take away her permit, so he did, because she was frightening other parents by it, and supposedly kids, which was ludicrous. It's some long drawnout crap that didn't need to happen, people over reacted because she wasn't cop status.

She then showed up the next weekend with it open, which is legal, and doesn't require a permit.

They asked her not to show up anymore, and she said she wasn't doing anything illegal, and they wouldn't see the gun if she didn't get her permit revoked FOR NO REASON.

She went to court over it, and got her permit back.

I think she's a single mom as well, and just someone who carries a gun because she feels better about it.

GO HER!

Emerald, you are all about protecting your Rights, she's just protecting her 2nd Amendment Right. You should be on her side on this one lol.

I have a concelled weapons permit and advocate gun owners rights...HOWEVER, there are times and places to carry a weapon. A little league game isnt one of them.

Yes, Parents fight over bad ref calls and the such...its part of life. You dont want a handgun anyplace near children. An argument/fight between adults and an innocent kid gets hit? No, its not worth it to carry a gun into that type of situation.

If you need to carry a gun EVERYWHERE you are at...you should either move, get more friends or see a Dr. =)

yeah, I come from a place that had the motto of "Id rather be caught with, than without" but I cant support bringing a gun into any situation with Children involved.

They were wrong to pull her permit but it was a knee jerk reaction to the public fear of seeing sumthing so unexpected at a LL game. I WOULD fight for her to regain her permit...but sh needs a lesson in hwen and where she should be flexing her 'rights'.

She shouldve left it in the car. Its people like her making poor judgment calls that make us responsible gun owners look bad.

As with everything in life: Just because you CAN, doesnt always mean you SHOULD.

She's just one of those people that always carries a gun. I don't see a problem in it. So what if it's at a soccer game, if she was a cop, I bet they wouldn't have said anything about it.

My friend always has his gun on him. Nobody ever has said anything, whether he is asked about it or not. What makes it ok for him and not her? Because he's a cop? Then that's profiling, or special treatment, or whatever you want to call it.

I don't have a problem with this soccer mom at all. I just think the problem is the too-overly-concerned parents trying to hide everything from their kids.

LoL!! you dont own a CWP Im assuming?

A cop is different than the average Joe/jane citizen...apples and oranges when it comes to dealing with a 'sticky' situation and legally. Not even close to think about comparing.

IMHO: People who carry a gun everywhere tend to be the 'scary type'..who are typically the most dangerous with a gun. they carry everywhere to hide an insecurity and are quick to pull out their weapon in every situation.
Hella weak...but thats how cowards roll :smiley-rofl:

She's not a cop and there are places that should remain gun free unless you are a trained officer. Citizens are not officers and are foolish to think they have the same rights as a public sworn police oficer...VERY VERY BIG Difference when it comes to owning a weapon.

again, common sense plays a big part in being a responsible gun owner. I wouldnt have taken her permit...but I wouldve required her to attend a safety class. They teach a lot more than 'point n shoot'. this isnt the 'wild wild west' anymore.

stupid bish should leave the gun in the car or keep it out of view of children and others who may be afraid of someone walking around with a loaded handgun hangin of their belt line.

she's obviously unstable if shes trying to patrol the sidelines with a loaded weapon after the police, judge and fellow parents are expressing concerns and fear. My kid wouldnt be playing around such a person.

She is the type that threatens our rights as gun owners. We have to defend her but she makes it easy for 'the other side'.

a couple hours at a Gun safety class and this wouldnt be a debate.

i see nothing wrong either...you read too much of kids finding guns and shooting themselves or others. The media loves telling these stories because it puts fear into people and it gets them ratings. This parent most likely won't let her kids or other kids play with it. I was going to say the exact same thing about a LEO. If a LEO was around with his/her gun in plain sight they wouldn't say a thing. Yes they are trained but so should the CCW holder. Here in california it's a mandatory 16hour class inorder to get your CCW and also you need to qualify with every handgun listed at 3 different distances. I don't give a fuck where you are...shit happens EVERYWHERE. nobody sees the person they see the uniform. If I was the CCW holder and parent I probably wouldn't carry at the game either just because of this problem with other parents. I'd probably carry a knife instead...lol I'M a coward!!!

I'm in the process of getting the permit (work related and personal reasons) and will go through the training the end of Nov. My dad (former gov agent) and my bro (sworn peace officer--Caoboy's friend, as mentioned above) both carry. I don't know how the process goes in PA for the permit, but here in Cali...you have to have a VERY LEGITIMATE reason to carry, pass the background check, go through classes, and numerous hours of training before the permit is granted. Therefore, if PA goes through the same process, then obviously this individual has been trained properly to carry. Again, parents are just too overly concerned over such petty things.

again, go thru the permit process and then have a solid platform to debate it. The legality isnt an issue. Yes, she was within her right to legally carry a loaded weapon on her person....however, it doesnt excuse the "commen sense" part and sadly thats sumthing that cant really be taught in a class along with a persons ability to use good/bad judgement.

People who pay into the NRA and support ownership have a hard time hearing "I took a class, i passed a background check...thats all its about" NO, its not..and thinking like that is what fuels the people who want to take our guns away.

While you're protecting yourself...you are also protecting the rights of other responsible Americans to own firearms by being an owner who uses VERY good judgement in social settings.

When you get your own permits you will understand, respect and honor them more than your drivers license.

till then...not much I can say.

California is funny. They banned the 50Cal and it is obviously not the choice of a criminal to use in a crime. Smallest 50 is probably atleast 4 feet long and the rounds cost $5 per and can usually only hold 5rds max in a mag. I just can't see someone carrying one to rob some people or store. What they did was put the fear in people by showing how crazy the size of the bullets are and the damage it can do. California also ban alot of crap that criminals don't even use...let alone afford one. It's always the cheap POS guns.

I also don't see the point of limiting the size capacity of a magazine. In california you cannot buy anything over 10rds. Even a little 10/22 rifle mag that shoots little tiny bullets.

Emerald you don't make sense. First you say that if she's not 'educated' in carrying a gun, then she's crazy, then you go on to say that even if you are an 'educated gun owner' you shouldn't even carry around these certain places, for the sake of what, being called a warmongering gun carrying crazy person who scares children because you've got a gun holstered? Why even carry then if you are going to feel persecuted? If anything, it's people being afraid of people who own guns, and are scared that these people, not the bad guys, are doing harm in this person's protecting one's self, and potentially, those who are scared of them. People are too fearful of an extreme happening, and tend not to see things in a rational sense, that maybe she's just used to having a gun, grew up around guns, and sees it as a norm to always carry a sidearm.
*edited/continued*

I'd like to bring an article up, I read it on another forum, but it's one that may bring a new light to seeing why she does what she does. It's a bit lengthy, and too much to post here, but focus on the 'sheepdog/wolf/sheep' of the article.

http://davesays.wordpress.com/2008/07/01/sheep-wolf-or-sheepdog/

It's a bit long, but it takes into context even 'regular' people who choose to carry daily.

It's amazing how many people, like yourself Em, who would rather have us all be 'sheep' being preyed upon by the dregs of society, instead of being able to protect ourselves and others. I'm really not understanding why you think it was such a wrongdoing of her to carry a gun like she always does, rather she should leave it in the car?

On with the 'what-if' scenario...crazy person comes to a soccer game, deranged divorced father who's not allowed to see his children, walks up, with a gun and opens fire. THAT instant, the horrible gun carrying fellow mother of another soccer player, pulls out her evil tool of destruction and incapacitates this threat upon all the other parent's and children's lives.

If that gun was in the car, she, would not be able to get to it in time to stop him, and maybe would be dead amongst the others.

If that gun was in the car, and you were there, you would have wished she had carried that gun always, instead of it being 'safely' locked away in a trunk.

"Always better to have it, and not need it, than to need it, and not have it."

People don't see carrying knives as anything more than carrying keys. It's as deadly as a pistol, just not as quick in dealing death.

She's not a gun toting strong-arming citizen, the open carrying was a rebuttal to her revocation, but if she's always carrying the gun, no matter what, I don't see her as one that is 'quick to use it' and trigger happy as it's been said, just someone who feels more comfortable knowing that her protection is ready, but safely tucked away.

All in all, people have their own opinions about what should be considered 'ok'. I feel if you are allowed to carry a gun, then you should be no matter what, not 'you are allowed to, but not in these places, as it might be fearful to others.'

If she can't carry it at a park, what about a grocery store, picking her kid up from school, church, etc.

I know here you can't get within 1000ft of a school and an airport. I'm sure there are more areas you can't be carrying. I'm just hoping to get accepted to my application I sent last week to the OCSD. Once I do I'm sure I'll learn alot from the 16 hours of training as well as the forum calccw.com I belong too.

Also on calccw.com there are always questions when and where they can carry. People have asked about fairgrounds and parks etc... They also talk about encounters with LEO and how they handled it. I've learned alot from these guys.

In your attempt to bait a debate youve failed to even look into any laws.

youve glossed over my replies. You have missed the point by so much, that im doubting you even read them.

let me break it down as far as I can: People can use poor judgement while operating within the law.

If you didnt know her and she came into your home with your small children, and a gun on her side. You or your wife may not feel comfy with it and ask her not to do that. The fact that she did showed poor judgement on her part. The fact that she came back over for the PTA meeting and did it again shows a lack of respect for others.

The arguement of being 'sheep' is pathetic. If a gun defines you then you are in fact a a sheep in wolves clothing...grow a pair. A gun isnt the first solution, its the last solution. Cowards will fuck it up for everyone. Then other CWP holders are forced to defend the rights of someone who has the mental fortitude of a 16 year old.

and no you cannot carry your firearm to pick up your kid in school:pat: Your church will probably ask you not to come back with your weapon as well.

the argument about protecting the the soccer team..dude, she's not the police. Did you think that you had the same rights to brandish a weapon that a cop has? a cwp is to protect you and your personal belongings..not to run down the bllock to have a shoot out with an armed bank robber.

You dont have to carry an exposed firearm on your side like youre Billy bad ass... leave it concelled and out of sight. You dont have to let the world know you're packin a gun...thats a straight up coward move.

Life is full of "what if's" ..not really worth going into.

The fact that someone holds a CWP, doesnt automatically make you Ista-Cop and defender of the people. You will find yourself on the wrong side of jail and lawsuits if you honestly think this way.

I strongly suggest looking into your local state laws in regards to when you can 'fire' your weapon. It will surprise you...kinda like people who think they can legally shoot someone for just being on their property:pat: uh, yeah...

this is getting silly, dont even know why im typing this out.......

seriously, this makes as much sense as having a kid with no drivers license telling you how to drive down a road theyve never travelled.

I love how people get so passionate about things they havent experienced in life. I used to be that way about a great number of things...funny how opinions and views change with real world experience. Ive changed my mind about a lot of stuff

Joking aside, Our Freedoms are not free. It doesnt matter whats written in the constitution, we always have to fight to protect and maintain said rights.

Get your CWP, Understand the rights / reponsibilities of gun ownership and how the MOST important part of it all is using GOOD JUDGEMENT and then we'll talk on the level.

I side with soccer mom 100%(Maybe she's been through the same things I have). I've been in shoot outs, I've witnessed my dad open fire on a person, I've been caught in the middle of a cross fire, and I've seen blood upon my own eyes. In all these incidents, without the gun...I don't think I'll still be around.

Anyhow, this thread is getting old...lets all  and get along now people! There's always a controversy when guns are involved, and both sides have their point of views of the rights and wrongs.

This topic is turning into "Abortion" topic :pat:

shit my mom has been strapped since the 70s never leaves home without it.. when i was a kid she was at all my basketball games and kart races with her gun.. no one ever saw it.. I ride strapped to the teeth, but its all in how you conceal your tools... here in miami i think everyone is strapped.. its one of those things where not too many people get fucked with anymore, in the 90s there were alot of shooting deaths.. i think people learned... Soccer moms 2nd amendment rights were violated by that judge.. yet they wont revoke his position..

when you have a CWP there are more laws that make it harder to fire your weapon... you have to know the difference when to walk away from a confrontation and when your life is REALLY in danger.... be smart and keep it close and keep it away from where anyone can see it...

Emerald, you are missing my point again, or maybe thinking it's not the point.

She carried concealed. Someone saw it, due to it was sticking out under her shirt a little bit, and ripped her for it, and it was a retired judge of all people.

The very next weekend after she had been stripped of her weapon, she OPEN CARRIED, which is COMPLETELY LEGAL, and NOT in anyway harming anyone. There is no law saying you can't. There are some compliances depending on where you live, like here in Ca, you can open carry our gun, with an empty mag, gun on your strong side, with your mags holstered on your weak side. That's a lot better still, than having the gun locked up in the car.

She did it to show that she's as normal as anyone else, to her it's like carrying a pocket knife. She still didn't break any law either way, by carrying the gun when she had her ccw, or by open carrying it legally when she didn't have it. If she was doing something that would harm children, they wouldn't have given her ccw back. Explain that one? If she was the one doing all these 'bad things' like you say, or if she were REALLY affecting everyone, which she wasn't, then they wouldn't have issued it.

Some people aren't comfortable with others carrying guns on them. They think guns are 'bad'. They refuse to look at them. Those people also pick up the phone to call the cops.

The others, carry guns, get discriminated, and are willing to PROTECT PEOPLE (again, not brandish weapons and be a billy badass as you are so quick to shout) if it comes down to it. Again, you'll never know if you have to use it, and you'll never want to have to find out, but hey, would you rather pick up a gun or pick up a phone?

Cops coming to a shooting will be picking up bodies. Whether it is yours, or the bad guy's, is all dependent on whether you picked up the phone or the gun.

I'll stick with my opinion, the same one as the current judge, that she did nothing wrong, and has every right to carry it 100%.

You also don't know her past, don't know why she feels the reason to constantly carry. Maybe somebody tried to rape her in her lil old suburbia soccer playing town.

I'm all for gun rights, and I'm all for keeping those rights completely available, and I wish Ca wasn't so gay, and more like Tx, where it's a shall issue (if you aren't insane, and not a trouble maker/have a felony, you'll get a CCW) instead of a needed reason/sheriff has to be your butt buddy to get one.

it should be known that a CCW doesn't make you a cop. It's to protect you and your family from harm or possibly death.

It's questionable to me when certain situations occur that involves a complete stranger. I've heard that if you see someone in a body of water and is screaming for their life. Say you're a state champion swimmer and just stand there while this person can't swim and is about to drown. I hear you could be liable if this person dies. I don't know if this is true.

Let's say you are walking your dog by the park. You hear some screams and see some movement behind the bushes. you come around to see just out of curiousity and see 3 men raping a young woman. Let's say these men have knives and one was right at her throat. What do you do?

either I pull out my strap and yell whatever comes to my mind "WTF" or "GET AWAY FROM HER" or "STOP". I dunno. OR I could turn and run with my strap ready to come out and head to the nearest pay phone and dial 911? or head home and dial 911? or if possible get to a safe spot and use my cell phone and dial 911?

CCW you really have to know what you are doing.

The thing I fear the most is if you do have to pull your weapon. The cops come around the corner and see you pointing a gun and someone one...I'm affraid some trigger happy cop will shoot me first.

I'm not saying that it does make you a cop, never have, and completely understand it doesn't.

The rest of your post I totally agree with. It can even be said, that carrying a gun, you have to really know what you are doing, and understand the responsibility what what you can do, legally, and what you can do, potentially.

LoL!! Dont give up your debate :pat: and dont resort to the "Thee who knows all" cop out.you're better than that.

Youve made strong points on the way things can/should be...sum were a bit off, but valid non the less.

Ive had people come come up to my small city "Looking for me"..camping outside of my parents home and knocking on the neighbors doors. Ive had to deal with people from the internet who are very serious about their stalking...and also good at it LoL!!
Ive had the local police parked in from of my house because of crazy people sending 'stuff' in the mail.... cities that I wont visit for events because feds/police have said "its probably a good idea for you not to go there" :smiley-rofl:

Im saying this because I know what it feels like to be armed and having to decide "is this the time" I do think its better to be caught with than without...but theres a way you do things in life.

Whats legal and whats acceptable to daily society can vary...and often Do. The only people that can take our guns, are the ones who will always go into that grey area of the law...to test how far then can get.

You live in California..the knee jerk capital of the nation. You should know how fast they'd pass a bill about stupid ish. Dont give those few the power to start fearmongering the masses.

We all agree that she is well within her rights as a citizen. She should excercise common sense when dealing with a society that has seen its fair share of random shootings. She shouldve expressed herself in court (which im sure she did) and took their actions/comments to heart as well. She used poor judgement by showing back up there with a fully exposed weapon...im sure a lot of people thought she was back to get sum sort of revenge.

I was 'with her' until she went back to "show them" she had won her permit back...stupid move that could generate a snowball effect.

That's where our opinions differ. I think she just continued to wear the gun concealed, not to show them that she got her permit back.

She only wore the gun openly, while her permit was revoked. That, is legal.

After she got it back, she's wearing concealed again.

Pictures from the press, were from when she was open carrying the gun without her ccw.

Gun-toting Pa. mom gets back concealed gun permit
By MARTHA RAFFAELE – 2 days ago

LEBANON, Pa. (AP) — A mother who angered fellow parents when she openly carried a pistol to her 5-year-old daughter's soccer game got her concealed weapons permit back Tuesday after a Pennsylvania judge overruled a sheriff's decision to revoke it.

Meleanie Hain lost the permit after other parents complained about the presence of the gun during a soccer game on Sept. 11. Lebanon County Judge Robert Eby, who said he also is a gun owner with a concealed weapons permit, said the law required him to return Hain's permit.

But he questioned her judgment, saying she "scared the devil" out of others at the soccer field.

"Fear doesn't belong at a kid's soccer game from any source," Eby said.

Hain testified at the Tuesday hearing that she did not intend to intimidate anyone but felt she had to carry the gun openly because warm-weather clothing made it difficult to hide a firearm. She said her husband's line of work, which was not disclosed, made her a "greater target" than the average person.

"I'm certainly not looking to shoot anyone over a goal," she told Eby, also adding that she had carried an unconcealed firearm without any problems in the past.

George Christianson, a lawyer for the Lebanon County Sheriff's office, said the decision would not be appealed.

Hain said she was satisfied and plans to take her gun to a youth soccer game in the future.

"People have the right to voice their opinion ... and I have a right to my Second Amendment right," she said. "A gun-free zone says to a criminal: 'Easy target.'"

She open carried at the game....i think we all thought it was concealed. Changes things. Looks like she don't give a rats ass about what others think..lol

The problem is her attitude.

The parents at the game made if very clear they're uncomfortable with her gun, and she purposely rubs it in by open carrying.

You should read the article I posted.. LOL.... I bold printed for you. She open carried not concealed. She carried openly even though she had a permit which is legal. I remember reading she didn't want to conceal because it was hot weather and she was wearing light clothing so it's hard to conceal.
