wheels... getting closer.

i has a post a while back about fitting some wheels on, i am too lazy to locate that thread. 

i got some ikeya formula rear upper control arms from japan (thanks Sean) and the rears wheels are one step closer to fitting. going to trim the control arms to get some more negative camber. rear wheels with stock control arm, the tread of the tire was sticking out ~2.25 inch. now its only sticking out about 1 inch (as expected). custom machining... here i come

just cut some of the Rear upper control arm, still need to trim more. new Toe rods were installed to keep the toe straight and not like it was involved in an accident.

225-35 front  285-30 rear

His dad is a metalworking god. I think he may be able to redo it and make it look factory. Just ask him to send you some of his work, they photograph everything.

Oh dayum so you don't want to do anymore body work just add camber.  

On my SC for every 2 deg neg camber I brought the top of the wheel in 5mm.  That means you need about 10 deg neg camber in the rear and a smaller tire and you're golden.  (assuming you are poking 1" (25.4mm)

i dont want fiberglass on the car, beside the body kit. :). about 3 to 4 more degree of camber will be good to tuck tire. hope to start machining next week.

only thing that could look a bit off is ending up with the big flare which at the moment matches the tyre's curve, but once you tuck them in that much more then the flare will be at one angle and the wheel and tyre at another. the japs do that but generally leave the guards almost factory looking when they do so i duno how it'll go with the flare there. but im sure you will make it work :biggthumpup:

that is my next move. i wanted to use 285 cause i have another set of 285 that i can wear out.

Car is going to the body shop real soon to smooth out the fenders and clean up the door dings around the car. i still dont know how i want the fenders to look but i will keep everyone updated.

As long as the fenderwells aren't sitting on the tires. Basically, as low as you can go on air, you can technically go just as low on coils, but clearance is an issue. Fenders are the first problem (with flush wheels) but aren't a big deal if you are handy with a BFH. Then comes the fenderwells/rest of the underbody/frame/engine clearance.
 
All that, with air, becomes something that isn't a problem, due to the ability to lift up the car when you need to.

My camry will be on coilovers and even though I won't be running any crazy wide wheels I'm going to be trying to kiss the lips on some 19s so I'm sure I'll be trained in the arts of bfh by the time I get a platform car.lol

I have an 87 camry so anything I'm doing is all custom. I plan to get 19x7 with probably a 35 to 38 offset up front and the same 19x7 in the rear with a 20 to 25 offset. I'm not sure what I have for aftermarket camber adjustability in the rear but if anything I can have camber plates made to help me out some with the tuck. If the 19s are going to be impossible to run then I'll do it with 18s. I just want the 19s because I figure if I tuck tire on 19s I'll have decent ground clearance compared to tucking tire on some 18s. I want my front lip away from the ground as its fiberglass but I know that if I can get a urethane copy made I'm going for stance on 18s!

if i can get enough clearance in the front fender for the wheels to run with tires tucked... and get the rear fender out more in the rear... i will possible switch to some SUPER stiff coilovers and call it a day. haha (just an idea, wont happen anytime soon)  car looks dumb at "safe" drive height now. haha

That's what I'm gonna do when I get the celica coilovers put on my car. I'm going to get stiffer springs and I'll probably have the dampers at a stiff setting as well.

Even if your car looks dumb at safe height atleast if haters are laughin and you pull up next them at a light you can lay it down and shut them up. But...BUT!!! I must say, you'll have more impact on the haters if you can drive away in unsafe height.lol

No, I mean physically, with the car, what is stopping you from driving that low. IF you were on coilovers, that is. Anything? Besides the front UCA?

its about 5 pages back. front wheel to bag clearance is the problem.

a) coilovers

or

b) narrower wheels with even more aggressive offsets to provide inner clearance while maintaining outward fitment

are the solutions.

the wheels are fine. its the arm that connects the upper control arm and the hub. that banana looking arm.  thats the part that rubs the bag. and the rear i would need to remove more of the inner fender liner cause the wheels are too wide.

coilovers it is then... maybe a cup setup for adjustability?

yeah. that's the way to go.

I wish we didn't have such a weird rear suspension design...that's why I can't just take my FLEX and throw some bags on there for adjustability.

Tub the rear inner fender and your good to go.  I used to rub alot in back even if I wasn't driving slammed until I had that done.  As far as the front goes, I can't help you with that one but I am sure you can figure it out.

Any chance you still have larger resolution versions of the most recent photos?  Something in the ballpark of 1920x1080, perhaps? :)

only time will tell. after the the shows in feb, gonna find time to do some more inner fender work and add "VIP style" mudflaps so i can drive on the road slightly more legal. :)
