chroming or polishing my proufound II's

hey, i get my new wheels in a few days, i have bought some fabulous profound II replica wheels, i was thinking about getting them chrome dipped as i can only get them in polished silver. 

does anyone know of the finish that chroming places offer?i am in australia.

Or i was just going to get them polished up real nice professionally, what do you think?? i have tried to post a pic up, i dont know if it will work though, let me know is the polishing will get it much shinier than this and get out any imperfections? cheers.

whered you get them in the first place? I didnt even know they made replicas of them. Got the center cap too

Replica is "nice talk" for counterfeit. Way to support the counterfeit industry.

Anyways, any chrome place will be more than happy to do wheels to a mirror shine.

Its funny that something like this pops up right when there was just talk about shitty VIP wheel replicas. It looks very "Made in Taiwan."   :D

hey, i am a first year apprentice electrician so that is all i could afford and i didnt wanna get one sumthin like all of the other designs you can get in australia which have been done a thousand times. im getting them off a guy i know who gets these from indo i think,what do you mean you can tell they not real by the spoke quality, do you mean how the look sort of rough?? if that is it, thats what i wanted to get polished up or sumthing. anyways thatnks for the helpful replies.

ok before I start again.... what are the sizes, and offsets for the wheels.. if you chrome the wheels or polish they may turn out nice... becareful with chrome as it shows every ripple and flaw in the wheel though.. just FYI

hey, thanks for the advice,i am getting 18 by 8 wheels im +45 offset, they are going on a 2door lancer...and i know it isnt VIP ,judging by the pic, do you think polishing will make them look much better?

Might have to high grit wetsand them first, that looks almost machined finish like. Then go super high grit then polish. It'll be a lot of work...or pay someone to do it.

yeah maybe some of us don't like that wheel or think its fake/counterfeit/replica..
but he already got them.. he wants some help and input.. don't bash on him..

maybe this is just to tie him over till he can get what he really wants?

Yea, the problem will be the center cap, which i'm assuming is plastic. you won't be able to polish this. 

From the sounds of it, polishing wont be an easy or cheap task (assuming you are paying someone to do it). Considering the wheels would have cost you at least $1k, it would end up costing you close to the same amount as it would be to import these GENUINE Profounds in the same fitments [url]http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n38409441[/url] or [url]http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n34789408[/url] (albeit they are 5 holes...)
I'm sure you could find some 4-holes if you are prepared to wait.

So i say rock them as they are now, then when you want them to look a little more flashy, sell them and get some real ones imported for a little more

Do NOT polish nor chrome knockoff wheels... doing so will usually make them look worse. This is because cheap wheels are usually made with poorer quality alloys, which can lead to irregular results from polishing. But this is a minor problem, as a very competent plating shop can make it all somewhat uniform. The bigger problem is just the fact that lower-quality wheels usually have irregular surfaces to begin with (again, due to cheaper construction techniques), and not as well-defined corners and edges etc. What this means is that if/when you do polish or chrome such wheels, those little imperfections are actually augmented, making the wheels look like an eyesore. Wanna see for yourself? Go to a local random wheel store and check out their cheap chrome "hammer" style wheels (wheels that are patterned after the original AMG Hammers... like the Work Euroline DHs)... look closely at your reflection dead-on, and from an angle, and note the waves and how colors are reflected off the wheel. Then look at the same type of wheel in chrome made by a higher-quality manufacturer (even, for example, the Work Euroline DH in chrome). You will notice that the good wheel looks almost like a real mirror. If both wheels were just silver painted, or have that "machine finished" look, then the differences wouldn't be as obvious. If you're getting knockoff wheels to save money, might as well save money by not doing anything else to them and just use them as-is

yeh, i know what you mean about going to wheel shop and seeing cheap chromies compared to good ones, so i will jus save my money sounds like and put it towards gettin my kit fitted up, thanks for all the help guys

nah, i dont know if i would do that, i like shiny polished alloy rims, does anyone have a photo of rims dat been snded and painted in silver? cheers.

In all honesty, I wouldn't even bother putting more time, effort, and money into a set of wheels that are designed to be cheap.. cuz then you're defeating the purpose! Just run them as is, or save up that time, effort, and money and get something you really want in the first place. 

i have a couple of real sets of fabulous wheels if you need some, LOL...


anyways, to help, and chromer should charge abotu 800 per set is my guess

I have never seen those at shops in TW before
if these were made in Taiwan
our VIP scene in Taiwan would have been 10 times more developed

hey, i got my wheels today, they are alot better quality than i expectd, they are pimp ass, when i get my tyres i will post a pic of them, they are alot better than the pic that i posted, thanks anyways for your help.

also, they are 8 inch wide, what do you think of a 215 tyre on them, jus sum shitty nankangs or sumthin, coz all the tyre places are like fuck no thats too big stretch, i had 8.5 LDR's with 215 on them but they was on wen i bout em. cheers.

Are you in Sydney? If so, go to 7-day tyres in Granville (or is it Auburn). Anyway they did the 295s on my 13" wide rims so they know how to stretch tyres.

If you dont need the clearance then dont bother stretching too much. But if they look like they will stick out (you could try fitting them on without the tyres), just dial in the camber and put 205s on it
