Fucken Tasteless...M1 Autobody

This is old news but just stumbled upon this in the CL Vendor MarketPlace when I was looking for a thread. I am just amazed on what people are doing now-a-days to earn a buck in this economy. This knockoff company which I refuse to mention it on this site has struck again. This time M1 Autobody has decided to help them out and steal Junction Produce's copyright images to promote this tasteless knockoff. What makes things worse is that Club Lexus has yet to remove the images which have been on there since day one (September 15, 2008). :pat: I have attached a screen shot just in case M1 decides to change their pictures after 2 months.

PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT M1 AUTOBODY!!!

If you're a Club Lexus member, voice your opinions on this thread.

uh, yeah..amazing what people/companies will do to make (or/and protect) a buck these days.

This industry has no integrity and is fully of shady types....

EDIT: Im really not understanding why the images havent been removed.
But CL is run by a bigger company. The decision may have to "come from the top"

Bigger company or not. Don't you think they would have a policy against copyrighted materials. The problem is how long they left the images on and shows what type of character M1 Autobody has towards the automotive industry.

I hate this shit. This is one of the things that made me get rid of my Honda. Fucking ROta wheels, ebay lips all over the place. I knew eventually it would be the same with VIP parts. Atleast VSC wont be allowing this.

What makes me even more mad about this, is that they even say it's a Junction Produce REPLICA. They don't even try to hide it. I hate them.

There was a thread on there started by a moderator, about knockoffs in the industry, and I even flagged the vendor thread to the mod saying "hey look at this" and people started ragging ME about it!!! All the while the mod dismissed it, and went on to berate another company who wasn't a vendor, and others who promote knockoffs.

Just the fact that they won't even bother STOPPING it from happening, shows me how much they really DON'T care. CL is a BIG community, and for them to promote authenticity, and then turn around and allow knockoffs to be sold, is ridiculous. I just wish they would follow through with their rants.

There are lawyers there, who would probably be able to get them shut down, but don't bother because it's not their problem to fight them, since they wouldn't be getting paid for it.

Is there anything JP can do about this? Or is this because they aren't in AMERICA, they can't fight the copy.

So I asked the heralded Administrator a question and this is the response I got.

Talk to Internet Brands.

This means two things. They are getting a lot of shit for it, or they just don't care.

Yes extremely lame. The only thing that makes me angrier then the fact that they ripped of Junction Produce, is that they could make ANY KIT they can dream up and they aren't can't even make their own ideas. I don't understand how club lexus can allow them to them to sell clearly copyright products, but at the cost to advertising on club lexus, they are probably not going to be going anywhere. money talks ya know? Soon enough there will be alternative options then knock-offs for affordable "VIP" kits and all of this knock-off bullshit will go away.

club lexus is probably not going to do anything because they just want to collect sponsorship fee. They could care less what the vendors are selling. Until they are threatened with some type of legal action everything will remain untouched. that's just how it is.

props to the the "real" VIP community for speaking out about it. VSC is the premier gathering place for all VIPer in the US so as long we keep speaking out on knock-offs and saying how gay they are, new followers will follow in the same path, hopefully.

I understand what a majority of you guys are saying...but don't we all like the fact that "sometimes" we can purchase the same stuff for cheaper. Taken into consideration that the part is not up to par.

I think we all in our life time bought something that was a knockoff.

Not trying to support what the Body shop is doing. In my opinion they shouldn't be open for business in the first place.

Oh one more thing blame the people who are purchasing these things and making the shop more lucrative:pat:

It's better to rock stocks than faux!

CL is doing something about it, but they can't do much legally, because they have to be able to PROVE it's really a knockoff, and there's copyright infringement, all that BS.
As far as the vendor saying it's a replica, I would have tagged and bagged it already.

As far as pictures, they can tell them to take it down, or remove them if nothing is done about it.

They don't collect the money, the money goes to the server and "IB" whatever that is, the company that hosts the forum?

I guess to them it's all about not getting sued. I don't understand why they can't just change the rules, and say "you can't sell knockoffs, we'll stop it if we see it."

Some people don't have the necessary funds to acquire such luxuries. Heck, I remember when people made air-intake systems using a PVC pipe because they couldn't justify spending x dollars on an AEM CAI.

Then again, is it cheap and wrong for you to chrome your grill instead of purchasing a Sport Design (GS) grill?

I know that I will probally get "blasted" for saying this but there are a "handful" of companies that "out source" their Suspensions, Aero Kits, Etc. and just slap their "sticker" on the item and charge an arm and a leg for it and put it out like it was "actually" made by them. Where's the "Ethics" in that? Is it any different from the "knock offs"? Wouldn't it be "interesting" if that same factory that makes the "name brand" kit and the "knock off" kit be the same.

Also I know people who even with "Brand Name" parts STILL having to "modd" it to "fit properly". I thought that was the whole reason why you spend the "Extra" couple hundred/thousand dollars so you don't have to "spend more" to make the item "fit". Wouldn't it make sense to just save your monies with a "off brand" and use that money toward "modding" the item.

Don't get me wrong....I am all about spending money on "quality" made items.......which will save me heartache in the long run I am all for it. On the other hand I would be "salty" if I spend the monies on the Name Brand items only to STILL have to pay extra to get it to fit properly. That is just a waste of money. I am all about spending my money wisely..........maybe some heat should be sent the way of the "Name Brands" to step up their "Quality" and maybe spend a little more to do some "Research and Development" so that people can "justify" spending their hard earned dollars and KNOW that what they are "promised" is delivered.

I know that there are "some" who like to say....."I got (Name Brand)............and don't get me wrong.....I give you props for dishing out the monies to get the "real" deal......and can understand you being salty about the "knock off" bringing down the "exclusiveness"...........but keep in mind that there will always be those who will "copy" and maybe even "improve" the "original" in some cases. At which point you will have a choice.........what ever that choice may be.

If a company designs a product whether they outsource its production or make it themselves is irreilvant. It is THEIR DESIGN, if they make more money by outsourcing it then that is called good business practice and will ultimately lead to them being able to bring more items to the table. If I make a dildo with an air pump so it expands in your butt, it doesn't matter if I make it and stick my sticker on it or if china makes it and I stick my sticker on it. It's my Butt Buster, I invented it. If the company who produced it sells it to someone else for cheaper who calls it the "Butt Busta", then that company is more then likely violating product production agreements and they are the assholes. Even if it is the exact same product as my Butt Buster, it is my brand who came up with the design and therefore I should have the sole rights to the profits. If someone takes my product and reproduces it whether they put "Butt Busta" or "Butt Buster" or "Butt Buster Style Dildo"on it is irrelevant, its the DESIGN that they are stealing regardless of how they name it. A original design by any other name is STILL A KNOCKOFF. That is why when I imported that Lxry Hanes wheel I made DAMN SURE everyone knew it was the licensed original product which I paid for the rights to import and not a replica knock-off. On a side note the Japanese companies that overprice products that are low quality are hurting themselves by sewing seeds of doubt to the consumer about whether you get what you pay for when you shell out the money for the real deal. When my $120 Junction Produce plastic formed emblem showed up that looked exactly like my buddys $10 ebay pot leaf emblem it certainly makes you wonder.

The huge problem with knock offs is that people are buying them and putting them on like its the real deal. Before the huge crusade against knock offs, I bought a knock off lip once, there I said it, I bought a knock off GS front lip because I was going to chop it into pieces and turn it into something that didn't look anything like the product the company that made in the first place for my SEL. But then I realized afterward, that its not about what i'm going to do with it, its the fact that I supported someone who made copies of someone elses work and I felt like a douche. But what I took away from that experience made me shift my focus to doing something about this knock off nonsense thats going on.

As for the Club Lexus knock off vendor situation....

Internet brands is who takes the money from all of the vendors on CL. They manage many forums such as the ford forums, acura online, ect... I don't want to bad mouth them but dealing with them when I became a vendor on club lexus felt like I was buying a car from a shady used car dealer.

The minimum was 3 months for being a vendor. That was perfect and was exactly what I needed. I filled out and signed the form and faxed it to them. They sent me a email back "Hey there was a mistake on the form and we need you to fill out this new one." So I download the new contract they sent me, printed it out, signed it, and mailed it out. So 3 months are up and they charge me for a 4 month. Bank account goes negative, I called them up and i'm like "What the heck is going on?" they say "oh you signed up for 6 months." I say "No I didn't, I have 3 emails right here saying I want to sign up for 3 months and the contract I signed said 3 months. They said "well the contract we have with your name on it says 6 months". I go back through my email and check and sure enough, the second contract they sent me because there was "a mistake on the first" has all of my information exactly the same EXCEPT now it says 6 months in little writing instead of 3. I told them I thought that it seemed like shady business practice and that I was disappointed that they chose to pull a stunt like that on me. I ended up having to pay the rest of the months AND money to the bank for the business account going negative. Then after things progressed for me when I asked to renew my vendor status they don't even email me back. Very frustrating. I wasn't going to bring it up or make a big deal about it but I think that its a relevant story at this point in terms of putting club lexus's management into perspective.

However Dave (DaveGS4) works VERY VERY hard for club lexus. He is a stand up guy and has ALWAYS helped me over the years. He does a great job keeping all the bullshit to a minimum on the forums and I know that this is a tricky position that he's in cause he doesn't call the shots when it comes to vendors. Yea it sucks he can't delete the threads the knock off selling vendors make, but he can delete my happy 4/20 thread every year. What can you do ya know?

As a few of the "big guys" on VSC know. There are plans in place which will effectively take the wind completely out of the knock off selling companies sails and leave them dead in the water. The success from selling knock off kits comes from market conditions. This isn't about the US economy or how people mod their cars in america, this is about the products available for purchase by the consumer in the market right now. There are moves that are being made as we speak that will effectively force the companies producing knock off kits to develop original products, or leave the VIP market. The VIP scene is small enough that this issue can be nipped in the bud before it gets out of control. Maybe the honda scene can't be saved from knock offs, but the VIP scene can. Cause god damn it, I have been involved in this scene too long, and love you guys too much to see this trend get bastardized. Just hang in there guys, there are people fighting this.

Just hang in there guys, there are people fighting this.

not too happy about this but knew it was coming. the gs is one of the more popular and way affordable cars to style up. it was only a matter of time before this happened on a larger scale. i knew some jp knockoffs were already made for the gs but now that its on CL plenty will likely hop on. however the knock off kit is like 1800. and i hear shine makes a good copy.

our Q has knockoff front and rear bumpers on it but jeremiah isnt very likely to change it up. even though the front bumper is cracked now. im trying to convince him to change the front and then the only thing knockoff on the car will be the rear bumper

At the end of the day...it comes down to whether you fake the funk or not. If you can live with a knockoff, then so be it. Don't go telling people it's the real thing though.

But of course! At the same time, one would be contradicting one self if they chrome-out their grill instead of purchasing a Sport Design grill. Why spend money on a new grill when you can chrome your current grill? Pay to play, right?

Hell, I am rolling on fully-adjustable BC-Racing coilovers. Say what you want on these Taiwan-made coilovers, but they're doing they're job.

In the end, it's all about the person and how they carry themselves with the replica parts.

That brings up an interesting point about S.A.P.

They brought in Sexy Style, and made new, better fitting molds to produce their own replicas. So S.A.P. knockoff Sexy Style is apparently better quality than the original..
If that's true, it makes it a really tough sell to import the original at a higher cost with less quality...

What a conundrum...

Haha nice pun. ;-)

Even if it is the exact same product as my Butt Buster, it is my brand who came up with the design and therefore I should have the sole rights to the profits. If someone takes my product and reproduces it whether they put "Butt Busta" or "Butt Buster" or "Butt Buster Style Dildo"on it is irrelevant, its the DESIGN that they are stealing regardless of how they name it...
It's unfortunate you can't patent designs. :-) Nice post for a handle that has the word "grundel" in it. Hahahhaa

What I am trying to get at is if it is "bad" when someone opts for the cheap way out and simply chrome their grill instead of purchasing a Sport Design grill that has chrome on it from the factory. Yes, I know it is a DIY chrome grill.

I hope I'm not aggravating anyone with my posts, but I just try to dive deeper into the "problem."

No, not at all,

There's a big difference between DIY and selling replicas, definitely.

Afterall, everything started with DIY at some point.

Personally, I'm more impressed by DIYs that just throwing money at a catalogue, by far.

Isn't a sport design grille black chrome though? It's optional either black chrome, or all chrome I think. Either way, it's not relevant, because a stock grille that has the paint removed isn't a knockoff of another stock grille.

Well, from what I saw, the Sport Design grill is the 01+ grill that's chrome, but "black" on the sides.

Still, irrelevant, due to it being a different version of the same stock grille. It's factory, and not a knockoff. No one is going to say it's a SD grille just because it's got the paint removed. Back on topic, rock authenticity.

this is covered so many times already.

knockoffs will not go away, because there are those cheaps who buys them

samething with people stealing cars. because there are those cheaps who buys its parts.

even though i don't advertise my business thru yellow pages/newspaper. it is thru word of mouth only i still have walk ins once in a while where they love the look to the cars we build but they don't want to spend the amount to get that look.

According to Yokotas13 he mentioned AME is a knock off of other wheels...I don't see anyone talking about that.

I do not deal in the following wheels (and why)
Anything knockoff.....simple
AutoCoture-Believe it or not, US prices are better than japan
Riverside
trafficstar-same deal. its just cheaper for you to get them in the US...stupid i know
AME-I hate this company with a passion, 80% of their wheels look like everyone else, and its part of my no knockoff thing. again, sorry.

being similar != copying

i always use the analogy of copying an essay. You want paraphrase, quote, and regurgitate ideas back as your own. Many companies sees an original design and re-interprets that design as their own (some of them are very close indeed).

in m1's case, the product they are carrying is outright copying. they even call it replica. most people on this board won't even have the heart to tell others that they have a junction produce REPLICA kit, but many others on CL will get it and just tell others that it's JP.

I honestly see where Yakota came from but after checking out ames ... those wheels are nice IMO , my brother has a pair and I have seen alot on the boards with them ... good quality wheel

Those who talk of any type of replica parts ... please review your car and make sure you dont have any either ... (no names)

Hell I was in the Mortgage field and was gonna be the first gs to import over the kbreak kit over a year ago .... times got tight and i have lost over 4500 in one month , so either having no kit or a amazing deal for 350, just to drive to socal I choose to buy a knock off and it was also more reenforced with stock brackets ..

I still love the deal floating around for a euro aimgain kit for soo damn cheap being real but unless someone buys my kit , i will rock it ...

It does suck to see M1 motorsports selling kits that are using the Jp name ... I am just glad I dont have that kit ... and its still 1800 ? thats an expensive knock too

i dont consider ame's a knockoff, just not very original. i dont like them more for their quality. i know soo many people with dented barrels. my one friend bought LX's and had them bend 3 times on one wheel before he got tired of spending 150-200 to get it done professionally. oh and most the potholes they hit were tiny. some quality 3pc forged wouldve handled it like nothing.

Honestly though, I don't see the connections in AME's wheels as much as you and Grant. Like, I get that the AX looks like a Carlsson, CX is maaaaybe Estatus inspired, but that's a stretch, Tracer TM-02 is RPF01ish...

It's not like Axis or Konig though, where I look at the catalogue and go "hmm... that's a Weds, that's a Rays, this is a Work.."
When AME has a wheel that looks almost spot on to another wheel, with minor changes, that's a knockoff. They fauxed carllssson (sp) Wed's, Work wheels, etc. You can see the similarity in every wheel to another older wheel. Lets put it this way......

KFC makes a chicken BBQ sandwich.

Popeyes makes a similar one as well.

Joe blow makes a BBQ chicken sandwich, and packages it in white and red wrapping dangerously similar to KFC, and sells it for half the price.

KFC, an established brand, made the original product.

Popeyes, also an established brand, responding to the market, and their own costumers, comes out with a similar sandwich, with their own twist on the recipe.

Joe blow, who no one has heard of, who has no brand or image, no guarantee of quality, and no originality, comes out with a copy of the KFC sandwich in hopes of leaching sales from customers who will sacrifice the benefits of purchasing a product from an established brand to save a few bucks.

With that, I am going to KFC. Hopefully my delicious analogy has shed some insight on the topic. If not, I bet I at least made you hungry. =)

You are right...people and companies follow trends. I think AME probably just picked the best selling designs and altered it alittle to their style. Almost every product out there is the same. China and the other southeast asian companies fuck things up when they make all these copies. Even fakes. Doesn't indonesia or was it the philippines make a crap load of copied rims such as rota?

Rota is the #1 worst company in the car industry IMO or atleast the rim portion of it. They copied exactly to the real rims.

Here are couple examples.

Every single Rota wheel is a knockoff. They're actually really good at catching trends, and doing uncommon JDM stuff so people think they're original... like their copy of the SSR Type-X, or those Mugen M7s

there is nothing uncommon about the ssr type x or the mugen m7....those wheels are all over HT and all over the used wheel websites. everything they have copied is a bandwagon wheel that all the HT members REALLY want. they just sell for half the price if not more sometimes. i hate rota, thats part of the reason i quit the honda scene.

LMAO in the hood in NY, we got Kenedy Fried Chicken and their colors are red and white and priced half of what KFC charges LOL. There is one like on every other corner in Brooklyn. With $30 you can feed a third world country for 4 days. God I love that knockoff food chain

As far as knockoffs go, I am against them but I don't push my views on others. Think of it this way, the person with the knockoffs will put his head in the sand when someone with the real deal parks next to him. I don't care what anyone says, you can spot a knockoff from a block away. The person with the fake stuff usually isnt going to have brand new 3pc wheels or the plush dimound stiched leather. Looking at the complete package usually determines if the person is rocking a knock off.

"Wait a minute, you paid $5000 for that kit and you don't have fog lights, the door caps or exhaust tips? Oh and those wheels look like they been to Iraq twice"

It is stupid. One thing that I got against it is that it makes it way easier for grimy shops like M1 to rip people off if they think you look stupid.

My buddy went to get a kit on his FD3 at some local shop and when he dropped it off they ordered him a knock off of what he paid for and pocketed lots of profit on that one.

Let's face it.....people will buy knock-offs due to the price, period. So, some companies will sell those knock-offs to make a buck. You can't do anything to stop it.....just don't buy them yourself.

Oh, and about AME being a knock-off.....that argument always cracked me up. There is a point where it becomes an elitist attitude. AME's, or rather Enkei, make quality wheels. When you get right down to it with wheels, everyone, to a certain extent, knocks off everyone else as far as style/design. The difference comes down to the quality.

I can talk from different points of view. I have a Version Select kit on my Q. I bought this because I know I would be destroying it dailying the car. I have beat it up on the bottom and sides pretty decent given the fact that my all up setting on my airride is lower than 80% of the people drive at on this website or Club Lexus. It is the first replica item I have ever purchased for a car of mine and I will more than likely be replacing it here soon unless i can sell the car.

I have a lot of original expensive parts on my car and I really did not feel like beating the hell out of a $900-1200 front bumper when I could beat up a $350 bumper...

Call me a cheap ***** or whatever you want to call me, and i will rightfully call you an elitist who doesnt have the balls to drive their car low enough to care.

My Q is my daily and I treat it like it. It scrapes the front bumper on road turtles changing lanes on the freeway.... I would not be happy if my Mode Parfume bumper was doing the same.

Do i care that knockoffs exist?? Absolutely not, it is what separates those in this game. I dont care what the hell anyone else does to their car. Isnt business built on competition??

Do i care that knockoffs exist?? Absolutely not, it is what separates those in this game. I dont care what the hell anyone else does to their car. Isnt business built on competition??
You have a good point .......... But I think people are talkin more toward the knock off kits that advertise with the op's pictures .

I can understands Grant's point about AME's, they do look similar to many wheels but I wouldn't call it an EXACT copy like these garbage body kit. I personally don't have anything against AME's, they are decent quality 2 piece wheels that come in a semi-wide range of offsets. They are still not my first pic but I definitely wouldn't put them down there with like Axis/EXE, Rota ect. that have the "multi-piece" look yet only available in 2 different offsets.

Take for exampe the Leon Hardiritt Waffe, Lock Smice Gerade and Work Varianza D3S. There is no doubt these 3 wheels look a like. But I would still say they are all good VIP wheels. Even the Euroline DH was a copy. Bottom line is that nothing these days is truely original. Even VIP style is technically a copy of the european cars, with the turn signal mirrors, puddle lights, wheels fitment.

But all these fuckin ebay shops and race-on usa, extreme dimensions that sell knock off kits have no clue or care about the original manufacturer. As long as there are cheap asses out there the copies will never stop. Very sad but true.

Im actually a moderator on Club Lexus (JspecSC3). I feel exactly the same way you guys do. The mod team isnt really too fond of M1 Autobody either. I have a feeling they wont last very long. As for the people that even think about buying a replica, dont! I am happy to say everything I own on my car is 100% authentic.

Im not going on any side but really why does it matter?Every company even non-automotive copies. But again why would they use JP pictures?

Well atleast we know people won't buy it right?

edit:I do understand if this is a huge deal because of the type of vendor he is though and then he came up with this. What sucks though is they made a replica but it doesn't even fit right.FAIL!!!
