Air Suspension (bag on strut) losing sleep part 2

 well i've been checking out some back post and stuff and i ran across when V8 Aristo got his setup back in the day and I actually have some questions. I've checked out alot of the air suspension sites and I'm just wondering something. [url]https://www.universalairsuspension.com/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=29&osCsid=42eee993c5a724406ef94ff69da09c21[/url] Now I saw this and said to myself, hmm can this be slipped over a aftermarket coilover system and still have the rideablity of a coilover minus the bouncing of a airbag(v8 ARISTO HELPED TOO). And also you can set your coilovers soft or stiff.

Now I know that nothing will replace a canover but seriously 4k for the cylinders alone?? 

I recently installed that suspension on a g35 coupe. It's a good alternative if you have an aftermarket coilover setup and would like to go with air. The system was pretty easy to install. The kit wasnt 100% bolt on, but for the price you cant really complain. I would rate it 7/10.

I believe it was viplife who used those donut bags on his JIC coilovers in a G50 Q45. He did end up selling the bags to go for a complete system which he said would rival regular suspension'ed cars on a track (cant remember which setup he ended up going with).

I was actually interested in buying the bags off him and i exchanged a few PMs with him on the subject. He said the ride was "200% better than the air cylinders i had on the car previously.  they actually ride much cushier than the coilover springs on the struts, but this of course depends on how much air you have in them."

I'm not sure if this setup was done for comfort though; I believe it was done to control the exact height that the car sits at when slammed (rather than the guesswork which applies to most airbag setups)

I backed out of the sale because i didnt actually have coilovers to go with it (or any other part of the airbag setup), but now that i have coilovers on the way i am regretting that decision

One thing though, i believe he had to cut a notch in the bottom threaded mount of the coilover to accommodate the air fitting on the underside of the bag.

So I take it this is like the Roberuta Cup systems..unfortunately that brand is on the pricey side and is more of a cylinder for performance reasons and not a conventional "bag".

In this case the donut bag replaces the coilover spring, so its a bit different. Basically it is like building a budget version of BoldWorld's air suspension system...

 This really is nice and the price seems kinda so so, but I think when the time comes I'll try the bag 1st and then if that doesnt work well up grade :D

That'll be cool, if you get them to work, or already have them working. 

Universal Air's Aero Strut Bag is not a bad item... it works as intended, and I suppose can be considered to be relatively well-priced. My only personal gripes with them are: 1) you need to make sure you have way adequare clearance for the bags all around (this applies to all bags, but these strut bags only come in one diameter, so you're stuck with what they've got), 2) you gotta make sure they'll even slip over your coilovers/struts (some may be larger in diameter than what the strut bag can fit over), and 3) the range of travel is not as great as they say. I mean, for all intents and purposes, it's more than enough for you to go from a little bit above a good ride height, down to a kinda ok full down height, but depending on your car's suspension design, it might not provide you with as much range as you'd like...

He should have spaced the bag up a little and did a 90 deg. out of the bottom.

An air strut that is sealed against the shock has quite a few issues. I am not trying to point out against any particular brand, just speaking in general. By sealing against the shock you have two points that over time can start to leak as the seals wear out. Also by pressurizing the bag your now putting air pressure against the shock's upper seal that can blow out the shocks.

With our bag setup it does not seal against the shock so you will have longer life. Also you have a vast choice of shocks that you wish to run stock/oem, or good aftermarket or adjustable coil over your choice.

Also we are able to keep our costs down by offering one slip over unit for a wide variety of cars vs. R&D shock valving, bag placement and machining on every single car.
