What are 5 albums every hip hop head should own?:rules: This is going to weed out true heads on by the albums you pick. What are you top 5?

1. KRS-One  -Criminal Minded
2.Raekwon  -Only Built 4 Cuban Linx (The Purple tape)
3.Eric B. & Rakim(The God MC)   -Paid in Full
4.Slick Rick   -The Great Adventures of Slick Rick
5.Nas           -Illmatic

I have to say that I hate these "Top 5" "Top 10" lists because I just CAN'T narrow it down. I always feel like I left someone off...

That being said:

RUN-DMC - Raising Hell
Eric B & Rakim - Paid in Full
Nas - Illmatic
NWA - Straight Outta Compton
EPMD - Strictly Business


Now these aren't my Favorite Top 5, but if was introducing someone to Hip Hop, these might be the 5 albums I started him/her with...

Cause everyone has different likes and taste. By saying "This is going to weed out true heads on by the albums you pick" is beaning biasis because that's based on your own opion and not fact!
I have a very ekletic taste in music and listen to jus about every type! 
 
To even try and come up w/ a top 5 best album list is absured and ludacris....no pun intended! :thelaw:

That's why I run when they ask top 5 /10 MCs 
I know to many to dope GOOD MCs to even try and put on a list!

gang starr-hard to earn
pete rock and cl smooth- mecca and the soul brother
boogie down-criminal minded
tribe called quest- the low end theory
souls of mischief-93 till infinity

.....the list can go on and on

while i agree with burn619 and pancakes about this, i decided to put my personal favorites on here AND i still bump these albums on a regular basis!!!
 
1. Raekwon-only built for cuban linx( rae and ghost were just nasty on this)
2. Ice cube- AmeriKKKa's most wanted
3. JayZ- Reasonable doubt(before he got on all that commercial bullshit)
4. Notorious Big- Ready to Die
5. Nas-Illmatic 
 
 
but i cant forget Snoop dogs first album, Gza-liquid swords, Mobb Deep-Hell on earth, its just to many to choose from, to me 90,s hip hop was the best, now its just watered down pop bullshit with weak beats and gimmicky dances

i dont think you can narrow it down to top 5....there is way too many too list thats why most list are top 100

I love these lists (always get stuff i can't remem)... I love Hip-hop.. but I never buy any cause my wife has no respect for vinyl or cd's... that ish just ends up everywhere but the case.... that being said....

There's different forms of hip hop! Soulja boy has the young teen/pop/hip hop 
and so on. There's many different styles of hip hop! Jus cause you don't like it doesn't mean it's not hip hop!
 
Liek many catz don't like the DUB/DONK sence jus like some don't like VIP but is that sayin it's not real or doin what they do?
 
All I'm sayin is don't judge or label a person or artist for the personal like or dislikes.
I'm tellin you, I dig it all! I listen to daft Punked, Kanye, Dipset, the down south music, say what you want but lil wayne isn't the greatest rapper but he does make hits and does spit some clever ish from time to time! 
Alot of the commercial stuff I'm not as big about anymore but I respect all forms of music/hip hop whether I like it or not!.
 
The title of this thread SHOULD have been, "What's YOUR top 5 favorite hip hop albums of all time?"

op..... would you still love these albums if everyone liked them to the point where they went from hip hop to mainstream sound, where they were then considered pop.

I grew up hating Jay-Z just like I hated Jordan but I grew to respect both of them. There is so much game to be soaked up off of his first album.
