Check the dates on your tires.  Stretching tires isn't safe, stretching old tires can't be any better :shrug:

12 years ago I'm not sure 19" tires existed so I should be good.

Meh, I think this is one of the last things I'm worried about when it comes to tires!

I'm more worried about a tire losing the bead or .........:signdammit: a nail in my tire!
 
And as hard as it is to get my Nankangs, I'm confident that they're not that old.
 
Also How do we know that's what those numbers really mean?

................come to think of it.........I guess I have had a few tires that have went bad earlier than expected. But that can be so many reasons I/E weather, strech of the tire, etc.

im a tech at goodyear here in hawaii... and maybe once a week or so, a customer will ask me about how to check the age of the tires i just put on... to make it easier for them to see, i mount to DOT on the outside (depending on the design of the tire, it doesnt matter which side is mounted outward or inward... directional or serrated only goes on one way) but its scary watching things like this... im around tires all day, i have to write down the DOT for every tire thats mounted and put on a car so that the sales guys can log it down... that i can recall, i havent ever seen anything thats more than 2 years old that i have ever mounted.. but i have seen customers come in without any tread on the tire, driving it around like its no ones business, and drive off because they werent happy with the price that was given... sometimes customers will come in with their own tires they want mounted (not bought from us, and used) and they just look hella old... i dont feel safe mounting it for them so i try to sell them a new tire or something... but for me, knowing what i know about tires... sometimes i do take tires that do still look decent. car rental places will have new tires installed when they sell their cars, nothings wrong with the tires they just want to change them, and sometimes i take them... as long as they are decent, not cracking, no seperations, no plugs, etc... 
 
i think monday when i go to work, imma have a look see around our tire room to see how old of a tire i can find and bring it to my bosses attention.... good find...

I don't sweat it really.

We don't have any tires that are too old to use, in the showroom. Oldest set we have is a set of Falken ZE-512 (512s were disco'd here when Discount Tire got the rights). Prior to that, we did have a set of RT-215s, but they were sold as is.

Wow my front tires i just bought from firestone in mira mesa 3 months ago gave me a 8 year old and a 9 year old tire. FOR BRANDNEW Price. DAmn my back tires that i didnt replace are only two years old.
