Installed puddle lights on door panel F50

Today I was doing some work on the car and decided to try and install some puddle lights I bought off a vendor here.   I bought this from eliteautostyles on this forum...I think it was like $75 for 8 lights.    Here are the pics of the passenger rear door...that's all the time I had today...will do the rest of the doors little by little as I have time.   I used a cone shaped cutter on a dremel to make my holes.   Just hooked up to the door light and was simple and easy.   Side note:  the green wire is positive off the side door light...not the red.

btw...they are not as bright as the camera shows...they are about half that...it's my camera adjusting to bring in more light.    honestly I'd rather have it not that bright so it doesn't look too cheesy.

the holes near the lights are holes for the a little rubber cushion strip about 13-15inches long that I just took off...I might try and put it back but cut it in a few places....I don't think it's really necessary but to hide the holes alittle.

Very clean looking, and functional. I like it!

too blue for me... but very functional. I love it, and look forward to putting some on my Q.

Do you know if there is a very mild blue-tinted light (more white than blue) that the vendors sell?

Why not under then car?

it's actually light blue/white...its not that blue like in the picture....it's the same color as the BMW and Lexus license plate lights....its that look....my camera for some reason just makes it just way too blue then what it really is.    The actuall color is like I'd say 7-8000K HID color.    


I didn't put under the car because it's just more of a hassle.   Also I don't like to show off lighting like that so I like it more for functionality and less flashiness so the doors made more sense.    would you really drive around with them on the bottom anyways?   Looks too cheezy to me...unless its for when opening doors or parked for show.

Actually i would drive with them on.one pair on each corner.Or best yet put them in the interior lol.It looks to close together though.:pat:

My whole interior lights up blue when i open the doors.I got pulled over once got out my car after the cop wrote the ticket and he was like WTF on his face expression lol.:dance:

you know I didn't think they would look so close together.   However it's because the lights are far from the ground so they had distance to flare out.   If they were closer to the ground then the lights would be brighter and smaller circle.   Therefore it would be further fromt each other...but oh well I already drilled the holes.

Kind of like shining a flashlight to a wall at 10ft away it would be spreading everywhere and get close to 1-2ft and it would be smaller and brighter...

i think the "puddle" just refers to the style or look of the light and not for looking out for puddles....if it was for looking for real water puddles wouldn't it shine more wide to cover more area?

Lol i guess.Reason its puddle is because it looks like puddles.Well i think i may try this.

Haha...guys.  Puddle lights are called that because they light up the ground so you don't step out into a puddle.  Seriously..that's why they're called that.  My Jag came stock with them on the door similar to where he put his.  Many high end luxury cars have them stock..some on the bottom of the side view mirrors too.

Um-no-really,.... they are to look out for puddles:biggthumpup:.



1. Open door

2. Look for puddle

3. Step out and over the puddle


They do come standard/factory on some cars.

Usally I jus let my now-later gators pop out w/ my nose in the air lookin for * itches! LOL! J/K

Im even looking for a set of 03-04 Lincoln LS mirrors to swap my 2000 mirrors out with.

You can custom make mirror puddle lights 1_VIPd_LS

I love it.  Functional and subtle.   You don't have to worry about scraping and ripping them off, and you don't have to worry about looking like you are the next street racer for Fast and the Furious. (not that all puddle lights look like that, just some).   Well done, I might have to try it out with mine now!

hmmm i guess it goes both ways...however for the under the side skirts or undercarriage I've never seen it on a stock car...the doors I can understand or even the side mirrors like the BMWs do.    Only way I can see the under carriage being of any use would be if they shine outwards instead of just under the car.   

Scottytuned you hit the nail on the dot.   If I did have them on the bottom carriage I wouldn't even turn them on or else I'd totally be looking like a goof.   At least on the doors they look cool and functional and yet still showing off...LOL

Swap more money.You need a project lol.Just get LEDs and drill holes on the bottom i can get you maybe 3-7mm LEDs for 20 bucks.I got 100of them resisters included from hong kong for 20 bucks.Let me know so i can ask the seller.It takes 2 weeks to get them.Hopefully they have it in stock.If you want a pic of what im saying pm me i'll photoshop it.

I could just get single units like the ones above and use a hole saw to drill the hole.

I forgot they also are folding so..... I dont know they are expensive even for used ones so I think I will sooner or later make my own.

The box says to make 22mm holes but that seemed abit too big....the size that came the closest was 7/8 inch.    I took a light to home depot and wanted to just buy that guided hole making tool for power drills...but the small was too small and the next size was too big.   I said F it and bought a cone shaped cutter for my Dremel....I figure I could probably use this cutter later on down the line just like how I reused my dremel sand paper attachment for many things.     Dremel is an amazing tool.    I even trimmed my rear quarters with the reinforced fiber cutting blades...little small cuts and more time but more precise and clean cuts.

I was talking about one of those drill bits with all the teath on it but yeah! I got a dremel and tons of bits. I got about five of those cone shaped sanding drum like bits.

I did order the white ones...they just came out blue on the camera for some reason...    I could be wrong...maybe I did get a blue set.

nah white leds are usually 6000k or so. so in point n shoot pictures they usually come out blue like 6000k hids do.

u can tell if its actually blue, it will be very royal with no white or purple.

u kno what u need now mang? some led 194's in the doors right above the lights u installed! i have some super bright ones with metal bezels for heat from v-leds.com and they light up the whole ground when its dark. also change the led under the mirror too it makes a huge huge difference after, it looks like a new bmw now. i had a small writeup with pics somewhere lmk if u need it. just doing those 2 made me not need extra puddle lamps, but i got the undercarriage ones anyway. those are more for looks over function. u can shoot the pods more outward but the more u point the more oblong the projected circle gets. i had pics somewhere of someone with puddle lamps that face away from the car. looked too distracting to me.

Nice install, looks like it came that way. But IMO you should've put it more apart.

Finally got the front doors done.   Just as simple as the rear doors.    However the material on the door was different.   The fronts were made of some kind of MDF like wood.   The rears were a white colored plastic.   The wood was easier to cut through since it was softer.   Wiring was the exact same and just hooked up to the regular door light.    I have the step light LED white lights on order to match.     I placed the lights right next to the map pocket thingy.   I couldn't place it anywhere else really.

the rear doors are much shorter along the bottom flat side than the fronts.    Also the front doors have a pocket that gets in the way so can't put them closer.     I do regret the rear alittle...I didn't think they would have looked so close to each other but like I said before the light spreads the further you go away from the ground like a flashlight.    I thought it was enough space but I guess not.  Sideskirt to ground and door to ground is a big gap.  I could have gone a few inches more apart but it's too late...I don't want to drill anymore holes.
