It crashed into 2 house's in one of the richest parts of SD 
Nowbody so far was hurt
Pilot ejected and is fine
The only warning is some kinda of checmical related to espestis (sp?) floating in the area

The plane crashed near Interstate 805 around noon Monday about two miles from the base as it prepared to land, said Ian Gregor, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman. Military officials did not comment on a possible cause of the crash.
A large, busy area of the city was blocked off to traffic, creating a long backup on Interstate 805.
Students at nearby University City High School were kept locked in classrooms, but there was no damage to the campus and no one was injured, said Barbara Prince, a school secretary.
There was little sign of the plane in the smoky ruins, but a piece of cockpit sat on the roof of one home. A parachute lay in a canyon below the neighborhood.
The middle-class neighborhood of half-million-dollar homes smelled like a brush fire. Ambulances, fire trucks and police cars choked the streets.
A Navy bomb disposal truck was at the site, and Marines were talking with police. Authorities told observers to leave because the smoke was toxic.
Steve Krasner, who lives a few blocks away in the earthquake-prone region, said he first thought the shaking generated by the crash was the long-anticipated "Big One."
He was in his kitchen when he heard two loud explosions and looked outside, then heard a larger blast.
"The house shook; the ground shook. It was like I was frozen in my place," Krasner said.
"It was bigger than any earthquake I ever felt," he said. "The flames were billowing overhead."
Ben Dishman, 55, said he heard what sounded like "a loud gunshot" followed by an explosion.
"It was quite violent," said Dishman, resting on his couch after back surgery. "I hear the jets from Miramar all the time. I often worry that one of them will hit one of these homes. It was inevitable. I feel very lucky."
The F-18 is a supersonic jet used widely in the Navy and Marine Corps and by the Navy's stunt-flying Blue Angels. An F-18 crashed at Miramar in November 2006, but the pilot ejected safely.

Miramar, well known for its role in the movie "Top Gun," is home to some 10,000 Marines. It was operated by the Navy until 1996. "

Damn thats right near the shop and i didnt hear shit when it happend hahaha!!!! My prayers go out to the family lost and why the fuck is that plane flying close to houses anyways?!?!?!?!   Isnt there a restricted fly zone in that area since schools and tall business are around that area?  BS i tell you!!!!!

Apparently he had to abort his landing sequence and encountered either mechanical or electrical issues which caused him to lose control of the aircraft.  ie: SOL.  Of course this is what I've gathered from several sources and in no way is official..got to wait to see what either the FAA or Military officials say...

i feel for the lost ones, but shit happens... its not like he purposely flew the plane into houses...  lucky it wasnt a commercial airliner... with all the technology in those planes, theres bound to be an error at some point.. was it a Marine f-18?

4 dead in that one house...RIP.  One was an infant, two children, and their grandma.

Yes there were 4 in the house!
3 generations of Korean were in the house!
The mother, The Grandmother, A newborn (october) and a 14 month old!
The father who was not home is the only surviver! Man could you imagine?

But it could have been worse! The plane was on route to hit a near by school!!! Less than a block or so away!!!! The pilot was able to avoid that and hit the house

Jus watched the Husband/Father speak on the news about it and that was tough to watch! Couldn't help but to get choked up! Homie said they jus moved in 2 weeks ago and that the father in-law is coming in 2 days from Korea and he don't know how his father in-law will ever forgive him...as if it was his fault! I hate hearing about young kids die w/o having a chance to live life! ANd I know things happen for a reason, but I could never imagine if I lost the ones I love most! :sad: R.I.P.

Oh damn..worse than I thought.  I think I got 2 kids confused with 1 infant and 1 child..but the Mom too...ouch.  Man, I feel for that dude...

it was a 2 seat D model from VMFAT-101 the Marine Corps fighter training squadron.  the story on all the navy and marine boards is that the jet lost all electrical power. since the hornet is basically a flying computer with a lot of gas, if the comps fail the plane falls out of the sky.  Miramar Air Station has been there long before the neighborhoods were there so the developers and tenants knew the dangers before moving in.  it is however a very unfortuante accident. botht he pilot and weapons systems officer are ok. my prayers go out to all involved in the accident. the marine corps will take care of the families who lost their homes and family member. although no amount of money can replace a family member the marines will do everything they can to help them.  from my understanding it was an instructor at the controls of the jet so it wasnt a new pilot by any means.

RIP to the lost family members.

Correction! It was a 2 seater but there was only one person in the plane!
And he did the best he could to avoid the school which he was on route to hit....
but yea still, no money can replace families or emotions! Even people who saw/heard the accident are now traumatized everytime they hear or see a F18.....
