how do i get a new key made?

without getting ripped off?

lost the other key for my Q, which makes me very nervous. I also lost my only remote so i've been using the key to lock/unlock the door.

dealer quoted me $150 for a new key.

also, someone told me i could buy one off of ebay, and go to the dealer to get the remote reprogramed. any idea what this costs?

on my F50 my key is a big remote platic thing you shove into the ignition...reads the chip and unlocks it...when I bought my car it came with only one key. within the key there is an actual regular key you can use incase of emergencies. Anyways I bought mine used off of ebay. Got it reprogrammed from dealer but it was free...I forgot what I did but I think I bitched at the dealer I bought the car from. Anyways Ebay is ur best bet...they have blank keys for sale on there. What year Q do you have?

hmm.. that sounds like a good idea. i have a 2000, Anniversary edition.

i have 1 normal looking key. am trying to weigh my options... not having remote door unlock is a PITA. i'm considering aftermarket alarm systems now as well as getting a key made.

thanks for the advice.

Yea..........Blitz are Y33s aren't cool like the F50s :pat:

I say look into getting a aftermarket alarm then you get a alarm and a reciever that can reach from a far distance!

I don't see how anybody can live w/o a remote that ish is annoying!
My reomote is dying, so I have to stand literally next to the car to lock it....I think the HIDs interfere w/ it as well but yea......sucks!

called Metro infiniti today.

160 for key, $100 for programming = 260

$130 for a new remote.

aftermarket alarm is what I would have gone with anyways, but dang $260 for a new key?

feels like extortion

i bought a new remote off ebay for about $40. real easy to program! Just make sure its the same serial # on the back of the remote. for 97-01 Q45 the serial # is FCCID KBRASZU07 CANADA : 2111 101 688. As far as the actual key idk. HAHA thats why i bought the extra remote scared i might lock my keys in the car or something!! damn is it really about a $100 to get a spare key reprogrammed. good luck and keep us posted on the spare key please!!

ebay has keys for 15 dollars, and remotes for 40. too bad I can't find an "anniversary edition" key on ebay so far.

i'm going to start calling all the infiniti dealers and see if i can haggle down the programming fee.

how do you program the remote??

I have an Ann. Edition too but the stock keys works as well. I bought a new remote and a new blank key on Ebay for less than $50 combined. Then I programed the remote myself with the instructions and I took the key to the dealer to have cut. Since my boy works there he did it for free but I hooked him up too....I did this two weeks ago.

An Ann. Edition Key is dealer ONLY and way too much $$$. My boy even told me he couldn't get me one for a good price.

I found this locksmith who bought the machine to program keys. he drove out to me and tried for almost 2 hours.

he said his machines could do all the other models/years of infiniti cars, but for some reason the 99 and 2000 models there is some difficulty.

in the end, i wasn't able to get one made.

but he said that he can make keys for newer infinitis and lexus vehicles in case anyone else needs this. I'll go dig up his email addy and post later.

btw, he was going to charge me $90 for infiniti key blank including programming.

and 30 more for a 2nd one.

the locksmith called me again and said he figured out the problem with his machine.

he's going to try again tomorrow. if this works out, I'll let you all know. it's better than going to the stealer and I'm sure im not the only one who will need a key made.

but metro is stupid, and has told me all sorts of wrong things in the past... I call them only since they are the closest to me
