? for future Q45 owner

I have been wanting to build a VIP car for a while and I found a 91 Q45 4 sale locally...
 
I was wondering if there is some particular issues I should look for options or whatever....
 
I don't want to get the wrong model or features.... I plane on putting AIR on the car....
 
any thoughts or concerns would be apprecaited...

90-93 have a necessary timing chain guide upgrade. (~$400 for parts, ~#2k with labor if you don't diy).

stay away from active suspension models (q45a) since you plan to drop it (extra parts that must be replaced when you convert to non-active).

other than that issues are the same across all g50s afaik. don't judge it by the price you see them selling for, it is an expensive car to properly maintain. injectors fail semi-regularly and replacement may require purchasing lots of replacement hoses/gaskets. fuel pumps and tranny are prone to issues as well. i'm sure there is other stuff i haven't even found out about yet.

my recommendation: buy a 94-96 if you can unless you just prefer the 90-93 styling. look for a clean body/interior and expect the engine cost. i would have at least $3k put aside for parts if you can diy, $5 if you are going to pay labor, $7 if it's a 90-93. these are high side numbers but will make sure you get things done thouroughly and correctly.

Once you get your car check or better yet replace:Sparks,gaskets,oil,brake fluid,etc.I'm tell you this from someone who didn't.If you replace then you'll know when to service next.Always DIY unless you don't have the FSM or understand it.It's true about the timing guides if you don't replace beware.Myself has put more than 2k already on repairs and some were my fault.:pat:

P.S.do repairs before any tuning.except suspension that's if your gonna drop it.

Besides what others have said, make sure you check the fuel injectors as well...they can really be an issue in some of them.

thanks for the input guys... I did a lot of research and I am a bit leary about getting this car... they guy says it needs a new fuel pump to run... so I am still trying to figure why he thinks that....even if I get the car for a couple hundred bucks I don't want to deal with tons of maintence issues....HMMMMMM.... I am in a pickle......

no you're not. if you do not want to pay for maintenance it is not the car for you. plain and simple.

True its alot of work like maintaining a BMW lol or maybe race car.Maybe the fuelo pump is humming like bees if so replacement.

yea I think I am going to look for a new one... maybe 99 or newer...
